Steam Summer Sales Thread: remember: you can actually play after buying

This might be a dumb question but if I buy Civ 5 from gamersgate, does that mean I can download it through steam? Meaning, would there be no apparent difference from buying it on steam itself?

They will give you a code, you'll throw it in Steam and the game will be added to your "Games" list just like any other title.

Does anyone recommend the Drakensang games at the current sale prices? The first one is 66% off at only $6.79 and the second one is 50% off at $9.99. Anyone think these will go any cheaper through daily deals?

I believe it's a steamworks game, so yes.

what are the chances The Last Remnant will become a daily deal? I heard the PC version is good.

There's no way to know, for any games really. The Last Remnant has been a daily deal in previous sales, and has not been a daily deal in others.

Edit: In fact, The Witcher 2 was a daily deal yesterday, and today is not even on sale. This seems to suggest it is possible for games not on sale at all now to be daily deals but we'll have to wait and see.

They're both definitely worth their current asking prices. However, unless you are going to play them in the next 10 days, there's no harm in waiting. And even if you are going to play one, you can wait on the other one since they're pretty long games.

Sounds like a plan, thanks for the quick reply!

I don't get why the Digital Deluxe edition of Mass Effect 2 is never on sale? Ugh... Why not put the same % drop than they give on the regular version? I would gladly pay a couple bucks more to get all the extra stuff.

So something that isn't on sale at all right now could be a daily deal? I thought it worked that there is a big selection on sale the whole time, and a selection of that is extra cheap each day, no?

OK, restarted TDU2 once, nothing changed. Waited 10 minutes, restarted it again, my NAT type is now "Moderate:portRestrictedCone" (WTF?). It seems to be downloading data this time though, so fingers crossed I might actually be able to play it.

No other game seems to have issues connecting to the internet, and I allowed TDU2 through the firewall. I assume this must be one of the bugs people were talking about.

I have trouble understanding that last sentance.

Something that is not on sale could be a daily deal. Something already discounted can be even further discounted as a daily deal hence why most people wait till the last day in case a game becomes a daily deal.

Only Spacechem for me today.

How long does the Shogun 2 achievement take to get? I've owned that game for awhile (came free with my graphics card), but never got past the tutorial.

Kotor hangs on my windows 7 pc : /

When or where does it hang at?

I was able to play a few minutes but I had to stop so i haven't gotten that far. Although to get it to work I had to play it in windowed mode.

I'm going to get the HoMM 5 pack, how should I play through these? Is it like Civ 4 where you should play the latest expansion only, or is each a entirely different campaign and should be played in order? I'm assuming the latter, so play HoMM 5 base first, then Hammers of Fate, then Tribes of the East?

Anyone think Frozen Synapse might go down?

I could wait until last day but I kinda want to play it with friends and 2 copies for $16 already seems like a good deal.

Im validating now but it hangs after selecting new game.

OK, let me get this straight: is it possible for someone in the US to gift me a game from the US Steam store to me who has the Swedish store where the game doesn't exist and I'll be able to play it?

Okay cool, but something on sale right now, like Bloodlines, will be 33% off (or better) until the tenth right? It won't go back to normal price earlier or anything.

We hope but it's kinda unlikely. I'll predict there will be a few gaffers who still will pick it up at the end of the sale for 33% off though, if you need someone to share.

Is Battlefront II any good? I am a huge Battlefield fan and love Star Wars universe, so I am not sure what can go wrong. I am afraid about availability though. Is the online community active at all?

To my knowledge that has never happened unless Steam has run out of keys. I mean, it's not like it's not allowed, Valve/the publishers can do whatever the hell they want. But based on all the previous sale events like this one, all the sales last until the last day, and some games get deeper discounts in the dailies.

Marsipolami said:
OK, thanks guys!

Yes, but I'll be better than the other guys and give you a link to a thread where you can ask gaffers to help you do just that.

Play them in order, like Starcraft.

Picked up Oblivion GOTY yetsterday, and Just Cause 2 today. I love waking up each morning during these steam sales just to see what's on sale. It's like the anticipation of waking up Christmas morning to open presents.

I am hoping Dragon Age Ultimate Edition goes on sale for $10 or below, and Splinter Cell Conviction on sale for $5 or below

yes It's possible for it to be better than 33% as a daily deal. My bet is it could be up to 50% due to D2D having a similar deal awhile back.

It won't go back to normal price earlier or anything

This is also possible. I remember the Witcher 1 being $6.80 during the last Summer sale, then it got jacked up $13 or something.

You don't need to buy the game to see which games it has. :p For what it's worth I bought the pack yesterday and it has all those games. You even get the Team Fortress 2 Beta, no idea what it's for though.
speculawyer said:
Yes, for $49.99 you get every game listed here:
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/7930/

It is like buying Portal 2 and getting the entire Valve back-catalog for free. So worth it if you don't have the games.
Thanks guys for clearing some stuff and helping out. :D

Now i need some place where i could buy time to play all this stuff. Too bad Steam doesn't sell it.

This is true, but that was a pricing error.

Sorry to ask such a broad question, but are there any decent flight games on sale?

Flight Control HD is $1.25
Wings of Icarus or something is $1.50 or so.

Not sure if any of those fancy what you're after though.

Thanks. It seems like Bloodlines is safe because it's part of the Activision pack which does say it's on till the end.
