Steins;Gate Limited and Download Editon Pre-Order up! Releasing Winter 2013-2014

I finished the fan translation 100% and I'm buying this to support it.

Also hoping this gets us Robotics;Notes and maybe even Chaos;Head.

Yeah having fan translators do the official releases might boost chances of that significantly considering this and other Jast Nitro+ releases. They got a nice backlog of fan translated stuff that hadn't even been released publicly yet too.

I would buy the Vita version if it was translated.

I am debating about whether using my limited gaming funds to purchase Steins;Gate even though I already bought and played the Japanese version (with the English patch).

I think any bit of support is welcome. Could even lead to future releases of spin-off's/sequels if it sells well.

I'm definitely thinking it over, too. My funds are very low right now, but having the physical edition would totally rock. If I can manage to get some cash before the preorders end I will buy it

Steins;Gate's sequel, subtitled Linear Bounded Phenogram. Though, rather than a direct sequel it's more like a set of spin-off stories, each from a different character's perspective. It doesn't have a PC version (I think it's on Xbox 360, PS3, and PS Vita), so there haven't been any fan translation attempts.

Edit: Ninja'd!
I did ask Steiner a while ago if he wanted to do a lazy script translation of it, and he said it was probably never going to happen. Not that it means much, but looking back he was already working on the official stuff when he said that.

I would love to support the game if I wasn't broke. :-(

Whoa whoa whoa, you weren't kidding. Those are definitely big spoilers. That's not very nice of them.

God damn. I decided to see how bad the spoilers were. They spoiled some of the biggest plot points in the game.

I thought you guys were exaggerating until I hit 'Enemies in the Shadow/Across the World Lines'. Definitely avoid those..

Anyone got bill by rightsurf order yet? I ordered with Saya a few days ago, but they haven't bill my card yet.

They don't bill until it ships. and if you ordered using free economy shipping with other items -- especially pre-orders -- it takes a while longer to ship cause they try to group your order into as few shipments as possible. It should ship soon though.

Just ordered the limited edition thanks to this thread. Thanks for posting this!

Sadly I had to pay right away since I had to pay with paypal.

Well I apparently got them to look into changing the Story section.

Psycho13in308
@jastusa Big spoilers in the story section of the Steins;Gate website. You might want to tone it down a bit for newcomers.

JAST USA
@Psycho13in308 It's what they have on the Japanese site, but you're probably right. I'll see if I can make it less explicit.

Right Stuf - Order x, We're Working On It
Unfortunately we are unable to ship your complete order due to the unforeseen demand for the items listed below, or your items are not yet released:

We receive shipments of items from our suppliers every day, and your items are on order with the manufacturer. We hope to be able to fill your order promptly.

Not released indeed..should I be worried?

So just talking out of the blue what would it technically take for these sort of things to hit steam (Such increasing their views and potentially sales)?
Seems like a win win to get it on there even if greenlight would be needed to start it off.

They'd need to put it up on Greenlight and wait for approval, which it would likely get. It will probably happen eventually. It actually makes sense for them to wait, they don't have to give Valve a cut of sales from their own store.

Oh definitely makes sense to wait. Just I was browsing the catalog and just realizing how well this stuff would probably do on steam.
Especially for a lot of the older stuff they have on the store. In a way they could do something similar to GOG. Offer games on steam as is, but on the store offer the physical copies, no DRM, and everything else. Then just slowly release their catalog on steam starting with the older stuff. Supporting this physical release regardless though.

The rest of their catalog would be problematic. The have very few all-ages titles. What else is there besides Aselia? And anything besides Steins;Gate would be less popular and thus more difficult to get through Greenlight. MangaGamer actually has a larger selection of all-ages games to potentially sell.

Ahhh wasn't even thinking about the ratings and such.
Still in general nd with steam greenlight either site I say might as well go for it.
Though im sure there's some sort of legal mumbo jumbo in the way since I don't think they wouldnt have bothered for this long.

Just saw that JBox is having a 10% off weekend. Dunno if it counts for Steins;Gate, but if it does, people who missed Rightstuf might be interested.. it's something.

Small update but it looks like Steins;Gate will be DRM free like Saya no Uta was:

According to J-List, Steins;Gate has received its ESRB rating:

MJAUFDa.gif

Not surprising: it has quite a few elements that wouldn't fly with a lower rating.

Also, inb4 anyone starts moaning about a certain part of the ESRB summary and feel turned off by it: it only happens in one ending, and that is because the main character is going literally insane. He gets better, though.

I wonder why they felt the need to have it rated?

Either because they felt it was needed to reach a wider audience, or it was a licensing requirement of Mages. Both sound quite possible, tbh.

That reminds me have they said anything about the delayed steam release? I'll probably double dip when it comes out for convenience sake.

Man, I really wanna grab a bunch of visual novels, but...my god, I just can't justify the prices (to myself, not whether the company has done their best in pricing them).

I'd love to buy this but holy hell, $40 seems insane to me and I'm not sure why. There's some weird false equivalency going on in my mind that just makes me look at the price and go "No fucking way"

For me, at least, dropping $60 on the LE is a LOT easier than spending $40 on a downloadable version.

I'm interested to try this series. Is this game good for start? And also how does this game compares to chaos head and the other one?

Why is $40 insane for a 30+ hour VN? Are you comparing it to paperback novels or something, because it's a reasonable price for software.

Wish I knew about this when it was $38.99 for the LE :(

steins gate is really good. From what I heard, the VN is tons better than the anime and the anime is like top 3 animes of all time for me.

Just don't see it. $15 or $20 is my limit. More if there's a game in there other than just text such as a VLR or 999 or Underwater Ray Romano. I played Ever17 and loved it but if my only option was to play it for $30 I'd never touch the thing.

I am pretty much comparing it to a book at this point. I understand that localization and possibly voice acting can start rocking the costs up but there are small companies out there as well that are bringing these out for realistic prices too. And even free fan translations that are as good or better.

I just don't see it. These games aren't worth that kind of money to me for lines of text with occasional pictures.

They're putting this out on Steam?

They want to do it eventually, but it's not happening at launch.

Gameplay doesn't make something inherently more enjoyable or valuable. Steins;Gate would not be a better experience with token gameplay.

Who is putting out these at lower prices? Niche products like this with licensing and localization costs don't come cheap. Free fan translations are a completely separate issue, unless you are suggesting that people forgo getting paid because you don't value text. Localizing VNs isn't a very profitable business, most of the titles JAST/MangaGamer sell in the 4 digit or low 5 digit range. When you sell to a small niche, you don't sell it for cheaper. They won't reach a larger audience unless they get on Steam, and then they can explore Steam Sale options.

No, but it does make me able to make sense out of a cost for it.

Ease up, I specifically said that for whatever reason I can't justify and create false equivalencies in my mind for them. It's just not the same to me when I've played some RPGs from small companies with literal reams of text like a Trails in the Sky for $40 or dropped 7 bucks to read a translated Ishiguro digital novel. Do VNs move the same numbers? Nope. Are the costs for localization and licenses pretty high? Most likely. Do I see a VN for $60 and think it's worth the money?

Not for me. Not personally, no.
