Stock-Age: Stocks, Options and Dividends oh my!

welp, there goes LAKE again...up over 15% in pre-market

I'm really tempted to short this at this point. This Ebola fear is totally gonna follow the same pattern as previous fears such as H1N1 and swine flu and SARS. Disease fears come in waves and then die down when the worst case scenario envisioned by everyone doesn't pan out.

This stock is inflated as hell right now due to the hype.

TRGP down more than 10% today. That was my big moneymaker last year, glad I got out when I did. My average decrease today was only 7% >_>. I'll probably get back into ACMP by the end of the year. PAGP's been a bust all along; glad I barely put anything in.

Time to live under a rock for 3 years and wait for this to alllllll blow over.

Edit: Because we work in west Texas, the oil prices we're getting out there are much lower than average, about $69/barrel, and still going down. The rest of the office is going nuts today.

Stop shitting on my team. Start shitting on my finger.
On the downside: 5% down in the last month and not much end in sight

On the brightside: I have some money to re-invest available soon, which should have decent timing.

I'm down 3.5%. I'm keeping all in, green or red. Just wish I had money to invest in such times, but since I invest regularly I never have any.

If only CAE could be bought out already, come on, it's a great company! I'm up 25% on it, was even up 40% earlier this year. I can hold on it forever, but if markets drop too much I might sell it and redistribute the money, sadly. It's the only stock that hasn't been affected by the selloff. But I really don't want to sell it.

At least PBR has been going up this year, maybe one day I'll be back in the green on this one.

It's all ebola. It's really a show stopper.

Thank god for a falling CAD and rising USD though. I expect the DOW to reach 15500 if now 15000.

VIX up 20% today.

What do you guys think of companies working in the fertility field? Google and Facebook announced they will offer an egg-freezing service to their female workers, and it made me think how much of an issue this is for women nowadays. A lot of women don't want to have kids in their 20s anymore, but feel they have to in order to reduce potential issues that can arise with pregnancy at an older age. So many women I know are in their late 30s and now wish they could have a kid, but either failed to or gave up on it. It seems to me that this is going to become an extremely in-demand service in the near future, a kind of common insurance service.

I found OVAS and VRT, any others?

holy crap netflix, almost did a spittake; down a hundred ten bucks now.

this drop reminds me of when Icahn exited NFLX; they managed to recoup those losses and more then, I'm not sure they will this time.

NFLX -26% down, they saved everything for the last day it seems.
Nice close by XLE today. Almost like a... like a... bottom. There. I said it.

My burnt popcorn will get us out of this dump.

Fellas whats the best trading company for Options? Etrade? Presumably looking for lowest fees, nice user interface..

I use Merrill Lynch, mostly because I already use Bank of America and they mesh nicely. Simple, nice interface, and I started with 30 free trades per month and no other fees. As I've invested more that's increased to 100. You may not get as many perks if you don't use BoA, I'm not sure.

Nice call on the 350 for Netflix. By the way. Solar City is up over 6% (I keep correcting, it keeps rising) and Kandi (Chinese electric cars) is up almost 8%. And that's just from the open, not the lows of yesterday. Crazy day. Someone is getting their face ripped off.

Taxes?! Isn't this the line for Metallica?
ESI has been on a wild ride this last month. It dropped to sub-$4/share on allegations of shareholder fraud. And then today it jump 80% to about $10/share on news that their enrollment is greater than expected.

Damnit, OVAS is up 7% today. Wait don't go up I'm not ready to buy yet :(

Earnings for stock I own this week: HOG, UTX, BA

I didnt know ETFs were a thing until last week.

Should I just buy up some VOO?

Whats a good counter to that? Maybe something that tracks the BRIC markets?

Edit:

VTI and VXUS?

I would stay away from BRIC for a while. They all look to be on a downward path to some extent. On my 401k I'm almost all invested in the S&P (50% if I recall), then 30% in developed countries excluding US, and 20% in Canadian small cap.

HOG topped earnings, was up 8% at the opening. I'm holding cause my target is in the 70s at least if I don't end up with an even longer term outlook.

I'm asking again, anyone has any view on fertility-related companies? OVAS is basically a patent holder, but who would benefit most of increased demand for fertility treatments?

What is this, every decade since the 50's?

Are you ok with VXUS?

I dropped $250,000 into VTI this morning.

I wish, $5,000

I really never recommend world total-stock market, especially not if it excludes the US. Just put most of your shares in the US, then split the rest in developed countries, and if you really feel like it in EM but I wouldn't touch that.

edit: BTW McDonald's is so doomed.

Well if my memory is correct, during the 2008 crisis, the emerging markets were barely affected while the US and Europe tanked. Thats why I wonder if its good to hold them as a collapse backup.

Also, I already made back my comission this morning on VTI. The wonders of digital money.

Yeah but I think this was because of particular circumstances at the time, currently they are having trouble; Brazil is doing bad and won't do better until corruption is routed out and wealth inequality drops much more, Russia with the sanctions, China is dodgy/slowing, and India with Modi in charge is a complete gamble but probably not a good thing. Back in 2008 the sentiment was all different, everyone looked a those countries as the big next growth engines.

Well I cant say I disagree with any of that.

I already own Petrobras and Embraer so maybe thats enough diversification for now.

I own Petrobras too, I think I've had it since 2010 or so. Shit stock, never lost so much money, sold some a few months ago and a bit more today actually. Will wait after the elections to get rid of the rest but I'm guessing it will be doing worst than now either way.

Yeah not as much of a golden goose as expected.

Embraer has been good to me, I bought at the right time. It was when the regional air industry was supposedly doomed, and no one was buying planes.

Now theyre back in action and their assembly lines are full.

I'm up 392% on MCD, so I can't complain. Full-disclosure, it's my most successful stock pick and I've had it for a long time. I'm a bit concerned about them, but I have never been in a situation where I've been so far in the unrealized profit zone, especially with such a large-cap stock.

Overall, McDonald’s reported a profit of $1.07 billion, or $1.09 a share, for the third quarter

Doooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooomed

McDonald's can't make any breakthrough that would allow them to maintain growth, they can only count on stores opening up in foreign markets and hope those people don't develop the same habits that is leading to reduce sales, and in ALL cases they are meeting increased competition from smaller businesses. Both trends won't revert. Add to this that ultimately employees will succeed in requesting higher pay. I don't see any future for them.

DDD announced they will miss their forecast, due to their inability of meeting demand. Down 13% today. Good thing I'm half-half in DDD and SSYS, the later has been doing much better.
