The FAQ is never a be-all end all (though of course stuff that's in the FAQ is punishable), countless mods have already said that the basic rule of thumb is "don't be a bad poster" and "try to contribute to the topic at hand".

I can see how the spoiler thing could get annoying.

I refuse to believe anyone actually knows how to use a semicolon. You may say you do, but I will assume you're a crazy person.
 
They're supposed to be a 'punchline' to a joke sometimes, and sometimes it's just there to show what people 'really' mean. I don't see how it can annoy someone, it's sometimes funny and sometimes not.
But at least it isn't a pony avatar.

Indeed, there are various ways of using a colon: lists, important clauses that proceed another clause, and emoticons. :D Alright, the last one isn't a real one, but I don't care.

One of the biggest spoilers is probably the one where
snape kills dumbledore
but in my eyes the greatest one will always be
spike dies
probably because I was spoiled myself. The ones to improve road holding on cars can be pretty massive too.
 
I would actually agree. Spoiler tags should be reserved for actual spoilers. Crazy, I know.
