Street Fighter V |OT| No Options to Select

Been a fighting game lurker for a long, long time -- I enjoy fighting games but have never had the patience to actually get great at any of them. With my brief time in SFV's various betas, and actually experiencing the thrill of winning by playing at my own pace and the mostly-stable netcode in more recent betas, I kind of feel like I might make an earnest attempt with this one.

I'm afraid to go Ken like I usually do in SF games, mostly because of how common he is. Now, I'm not actually afraid of people groaning at YET ANOTHER KEN PLAYER, but I'm just worried it puts me at a severe competitive disadvantage -- particularly as someone who hasn't been great at fighting games -- because his tools will all be figured out much faster due to how frequently he's played.

I have alternatively liked playing as Cammy in some SF games but I always feel like she's a much tougher one to play. Chun was fun in last beta but it'd be my first time ever working hard on learning Chun. Karin seems a bit approachable, and her juggle-heavy playstyle seems neat and rewarding to pull off without having what appears to be an extreme skill ceiling. One of those three, maybe -- anyone have any recommendations?

I'd say play Ken if that's who you want to play! You could always start fresh with another character if you want, just keep in mind, according to Ono, Karin is one of the more complex characters to learn in the game. But she's really fun to play IMO so go with your gut. I'm still hopping around trying to figure out who I'm going to focus on, myself.

Since Online is a mess right now I'll just go and practice some BnBs.

Just wanted to ask, what would be the best option for the dummy? Guard after first attack?

Yup, that's what I always go to. Speaking of training mode, I'm pretty miffed that it doesn't save your settings in the final game. So every training session I have to go through the routine of "turn attack data on, change guard settings, turn of stun, etc" ad nauseam. The server problems will fix themselves out (they better change it so a connection drop doesn't instantly boot you from whatever you're doing though), but I fear this issue may be with us forever.

Could likely be patched but should be tweeted to Combofiend and friends to make it a priority.

how the bloody hell do you set up casuals with friends online? I set up a friend on the rivals thing, so I get that...now what?

this is the worst UI ever :D

Did some training in offline mode since Internet is out here. I've been maining Chun for some 24 years now (lol I'm old) and she is so awesome in SFV. Although it was weird not being able to mash Lightning Kicks anymore, all my other standbys are there and look better than ever. I'm going to have a lot of fun reacquainting myself with her.

Tried a few new chars too. Rashid seems like a serious badass. Laura was OK but difficult for me to pull off.

CPU skill (in training) seems real dumb unless boosted up to like 7 or 8. Was surprised by this.

Can't wait till all the connectivity shit gets ironed out and I can test Chun properly. Not to mention get her decked out in that new dress...DLC costumes not unlocking until you can login to Capcom's servers, it seems.

Add them as rivals and then invite them in the lobby. Battle lounge is pretty fucked right now so I wouldn't even try

I tried out Zangief tonight. Man, this guy is a lot of work. No BnBs either, AFAIK, so it's all footsies and conditioning the other player to stop jumping out. I'll try out other grapplers tomorrow.

Need info please. Can anyone who has any preorder dlc costumes log in to a different account, not the one you got it from, preferably other region as well and see if its still available. Seems like dlc is region/account locked, need confirmation though.

@Yoshi_OnoChin
I apologize for troubling you with various things about SFV's server.Would you check @SFVServer,we're going to work hard and improve it.

Man, it's past 1 AM in Cali and I can't select a Home + create an online ID. Get stuck on connecting, it drops, and has me do it again.

I just wanted to play as Chun for a bit. :(

Tried a ranked match on PC, was lag free but yeah... gonna stay away from ranked for now because I'm fucking terrible.

In my PC version the menus are in Portuguese and i can't figure out how to change them to english, anyone has any solution?
Same here, I want English. The game doesn't care about my Steam setting and there's nothing in the game apparently!?

After two hrs of trying to get online, I finally jump into a ranked match, then get kicked out as I'm about to win my first match. Le Sigh....
And what's with all the missing modes and the mandatory two minute online log in attempt each time I boot the game? My newly bought Hori RAP 4 - Kai didn't work either and I had to install third party software just to map it.

So far, my experience has not been good.

Just reposting because so many posts later and actual UK/EU people will be up. The quest for Cammy continues
I fucked up before Amazon even announced they had Cammy.

I've just got my "Battle Ryu Bonus Costume DLC" for Street Fighter V.
I mean this is probably a long shot, but I preorder this with GAME (because cheapest) before I found out Amazon UK had Cammy.

Basically, any UKers PSN (or Europe) want Ryu DLC in exchange for Cammy?

I really hope the postman pulls through and SFV comes. And Capcom's servers need to pull through so I can just play online all day.

Okay, so I know I can probably look this up online, but how do I do a shoryuken with Ryu with the d-pad.

There is a command list in game if you press pause. Also it is forward down forward then punch. You just slide your finger across the pad in those directions.
(I know guys, shhhh he doesn't need to know about that diagonal
)

Forward, Down, Down-forward + punch

Forward, down, down-forward, punch.

Thanks! I've been avoiding characters with a Z motion until I figured it out or found an answer to it.

Hahaha yeah I've heard about the secret technique... I want to do it legit though.

same, trying to figure it out

edit: just fixed it. you know the little language icon on the taskbar that changes the keyboard language (should say PT on the bottom right corner on windows). Change that to EN (you might need to add a english keyboard option on widnows), seems the game pulls from that. Credit to Dr Dogg for figuring it out

At close range his cr. Mk can be comboed into lariat
Othrrwise both cr mk and cr mp are super cancelable and will combo

It's kind of interesting that the OT title, which was originally a poke at Option Selects now perfectly describes the game when the server disconnects you :P

I finally hit all 9 hits of st mp, cr mk xx sbk.

But cr hp xx legs, cr lp xx sbk is just as maddening.

I'm usually good at doing charge combos but sbk in this game is ridiculous. Help? I made a video.

http://youtu.be/G5g3Dh4z_3g

Trying using the 7 or 9 direction as your "up" input for sbk instead of 8. Like in your video use 7. I find just being able to go right to the corner gets it out faster rather than finding up. Dunno if that will help.

hmmm... it's weird the way they setup the constant connection. You would assume it would store the fight money and any statistical changes locally and then just update when a connection is available.

well... the failure now is a good thing... as time goes on they can only improve.

Half glass full... i suppose. :/

So it's pretty clear they want people to pay for the season pass, no surprise. So that would be $90 for the same amount of content that probably should be in the $60 package. And while you can earn most of that content for free, you have to do some really un-fun things to do it. A lot.

The value of something is pretty relative. I'm sure plenty of people are content with how things are because that's all they cared about. But I'm pretty sure they are the minority. There's a lot of people blaming the consumer for dissatisfaction with the product. When this many people are upset, though, i think it's safe to say the product and the company who made it are at fault.

How can SF V and MK X both offer $60 worth of content? Even with SFV's revealed roadmap the two don't compare. The only thing SF V has over MK X is better gameplay, but that doesn't excuse the sorry package.

And please understand, I'm not talking about server problems. This game needed another 6 months, maybe even a year. This is corporate greed taking advantage of its fandom. They could have let USFIV ride another year on the circuit and at Evo, but they muscled out USFIV and rushed out SFV to kickstart a new revenue stream, knowing the fandom and brand-awareness would be enough to sell copies. I bought it, too. That hype train is power. I'm going to play, and I'm going to have fun. But I'm not satisfied and I'm not going to be an apologist. I like Street Fighter and unfortunately I'll have to settle.

It's always been like this with Street Fighter vs. MK (or any other fighting game for that matter). Except this time around MKX is now a tournament worthy fighter. Over time Capcom should remedy this with new modes, fighters, stages, etc. but as of right now... Mortal Kombat XL is a better deal for gamers looking to jump into the fighting genre.

Nah, that was the joke, too

Too susceptible to cheating, probably

For those that have the game in Portuguese,
did you buy the game directly off Steam or from a Key store?

I just fixed it mate, read 2 posts above :)

oops its on the last page, here let me quote myself
