The only thing you should worry about frames right now is knowing and being cognizant of the fact that moves have a start up, active, and recovery. Throw a punch right now, very slowly. At first your punch is winding up, right? That's start up. During that you're vulnerable if your move is slow enough. Then we have active, that's the actual punch with your arm extended. Next, we have recovery. As you put your arm to your side, you're vulnerable, no? Some moves have fast recovery. Some moves have slow start up and slow recovery. Consider this when using moves.

Those are the basics of frames and as a newbie, all you should concentrate on for now.

good tips

Bought this game blind as I'm a huge Sagat fan and saw it on the shelf. Just popped it in.

Someone, anyone, please. Just tell me the point of Rassenha. I don't see any reason to use this move. Shit is garbage. Same with her V-trigger follow ups. Everything just loses to jab. Thought the same thing in the betas and the same thing now.

Ressenha bypasses projectiles. :D

Hmm...so you can't play offline at all? I just tested it and it says it can't find a connection and thus you will play offline mode, do you agree, yada, yada, yada - I hit "accept" and it just sits there on the screen w/ the SFV logo on the white background.

Are stick controllers more effective than a standard pad? Is that something I should think about investing in if I really like the game?

You'll get a variety of responses. In my opinion they are, but that doesn't mean you can't be good or even great with a pad. I think there's very few people who go from pads to stick that regret the switch.

Thanks. That's what I figured, just trying to get a feel for the movement and range and stuff like that.

Some of the resources linked in the noob thread talk about frames which seems confusing, should I be thinking about that now or is that more advanced?

It's more advanced. Frame data is just stuff about how quickly an attack starts/ends. Until you get past the beginner stage (we're talking months of regular practice/play) you can eyeball what's slow and what's fast. I'd argue that frame data is optional all the way up to top level, as I know a few high level players say they don't look at the actual numbers; at some point experience will tell you what beats what.

What you want to look at are fundamentals: spacing, zoning, throws, footsies, and obviously learning what your character of choice can do. What do you do when they jump? What do you do when you successfully block a special move? When they fireball? All of that you can learn in the Training mode by setting the dummy to record and then inputting what you want to learn to counter/defend against.

Once online is back up and functional, I always suggest people send invites to people of similar skill who they had fun fights with. Play them regularly and learn from each other in a stress free environment, then take what you've learned against other people online. Rinse, repeat, rise up!

I should have made it clear. I know about the follow ups. They both lose to jabs or throws and its unsafe on block.

The follow ups actually don't make any sense.
She has the flip grab which you avoid by crouching and the slide which you block by crouch blocking. She has no mixup that would require you to stand up after blocking the first move. I just don't see the point. Seems extremely predictable and unsafe.
Hmm I see what you mean, the ex version ain't that bad

I combo into for the knockdown sweep. I'm not sure how you're trying to use it

Hey guys. Thought I'd try one more time to see if anyone wanted to trade my Bison costume for anything. I'll take anything at this point. Just PM if interested.

Small complaint but in training mode, the shortcut to restart battle is L3, which is the touchpad, which some PS4 fightsticks don't have. I don't see why they couldn't set it to select or have it remappable.

You can set the shortcuts in some menu I believe.

I guess. I suppose the only use is that and the EX version as a reversal.

I just do the normal bnb if I want a knockdown. I'm trying to make sense of the follow ups. Even on hit, I don't think the advantage is that good. I gotta do some more testing.

Doing it raw is only good for jumping over projectiles. Though I have been experimenting with trying to do it and make it whiff their block and then go for a grab. It's probably not a good mix up, but might catch some off guard.

Well.. seeing all these server issues, good thing I'm busy and can't play until tomorrow night.

Anyone has some chun-li videos of combos/ basics? I would appreciate it!

So what's the general consensus on the best arcade stick for the PS4?

It's really all preference. The MadCatz TEs are fine and so are the Hori Real Arcade Pros. If you don't like the stock lever and buttons, you can always replace them with something else.

I have an HRAP4 Kai right now and I have no complaints with it. Used a Qanba Q4RAF before this.

This Gootecks video is amazing, thanks for the link.

Sounds like it's basically a game of chess trying to think 2 steps ahead and anticipate what the other person is going to do. I always thought of fighting games as strictly reactionary so this is kind of opening my mind.

Is there an official Capcom page or something saying that the servers were taken down and when they'll be back up?

guys im trying to play this on pc with my sf4 stick (not te forgot the name) and it isnt working or recognizing it. Never had a problem with sf4 on steam and this stick. Any help?
