anyone in or around the uk fancy some games? CFN is paulietheboss. silver rashid. i can't invite cause i'm still having the constant "disconnected from battle lounge" issue :/ i've barely played any sets yet in sfv because of this, just lots of random matches.

If I win my first match, I'll have the pleasure of playing Reiketsu after. At work now, but does anybody here play Vega?

Also, thanks for the words of encouragement.

I don't play Vega, but I've gone to enough tournaments to get those jitters and such out of the way.

I'm just average at best.

One of the easiest ways I mess with people in pools is to talk to them. A lot of people can't talk and play at the same time, but I don't find it difficult.

Honestly tournaments are just as much about taking care of yourself throughout the day as it is playing. People miss their matches being called, eat horribly the day before / oversleep, etc.

Since you're playing pools, you're going to encounter randoms. Don't do what my friends do and underestimate people - expect everyone to be on point, and then when they aren't and you are you know what to take advantage of. My friends know my play a lot so I'll go 50/50 with them, but when I'm in pools against people it's much better odds as they fall for stuff.

I'm using pad and was stuck around 1600 LP for Laura for a while. Changed up the button layout and kept climbing. Gone from 1600-3200 in a week.

So if you're using pad, spend some time in training to figure out button layouts that work for you for specific characters. For example, Laura's HK button is useless and you can use 3XK to do pretty much anything you need to do. So I removed HK entirely. Moved HP to R2 to allow me to use her anti-air bolt and crush counters effectively. Moved 3XP to R1 for her super useful EX fireball and EX bolt, and made L1 her V-Trigger which allows me to easily combo V-Trigger midstream and keep the combo going.

Simply moving the buttons around for a character to utilize their best abilities makes things really useful.

If you didn't notice, I struggle doing special moves with L1 or L2 triggers.

Neoxon, ggs. Hope it wasn't too laggy for you. Here, only a couple of rounds because Dragon Ball material.

A few tips for you to improve your game:

- Be aggressive. Karin does not have a lot of good defensive tools.
- Her normal attacks are great frame traps tools. For example, if I use cr.mp while you are waking up, you will get hit if you didn't defended or don't have an invincible move. Her follow up with standing mk creates a frame trap, so if anyone tries to attack, he takes the hit.
- Her slide after Ressenha is not safe. Ressenha itself is not safe, but it's a good tool to open people up.
- Mashing light attacks usually beats her V-Skill moves, so it's better to juggle the opponent so then you can use it.

One thing that I also learned is about her dash. I used a lot of cr.mk because it has good range, but it can be followed into a big combo if you use dash -> palm. However, the timing is really strict, since you need the quick version of it, and failing would mean open yourself to a combo.

By holding down, if I fail the timing, her shoulder comes out and it's safe on block.

Thanks for the matches, actually learned quite a few things about my game with her.

Before I forget:
GGs, Seph. I need to hit the lab & test some stuff.

I have been using this video for BnBs and punishes, still haven't completed my training with it though.

i'll invite you in a bit. i don't know much about rashid, will be fun.

Don't get your hopes up. If he was coming next week we would have seen the trailer by now.

I dunno. With the way this game is set up and this age in general, releasing a 1-2 punch of "Here's the trailer, now he's out!" is pretty effective. I could see it happening.

I could also see the 29th happening though.

Thanks for the detailed notes. I'll definitely put what you said to use going forward. And your connection was mostly fine.

Lost 2 games in a row against same player due to being punished for doing same mistakes repeatedly. I even realised what I did wrong and kept doing it wtf is wrong with me lol

Honestly I just want the trailer this weekend, hopefully with a release date for the 29th to cut off all the crying next week that they "chose the last Tuesday of the month."

Of course they would. Guess what? Every single character this year will be released on the last Tuesday of the month.

Was pretty sure she could do it off of v-skill as well.

Can't do it off of vskill, only way then is if she vtriggers off vskill into super. If she does charged vskill>vtrigger she can do rekka's after and cancel those into super also. Though that depends on spacing.

I'm really looking forward to a pure charge character as DLC. Capcom disrespected charge fans by having no pure charge characters.

Love the game, just had to get that off my chest.

Yeah, that much I'm duly aware of. Couldn't remember if she could do it off the v-skill alone though. Thought she could. Not like she needs any more ways to confirm tho.

It'll probably be Guile.

As Neoxon said, Guile is most likely the answer.

Though you really should give FANG a try, I primarily play charge characters with Guile usually being my main and I've had a blast playing FANG.

I saw a video of a girl playing Laura. She changed the buttons just like you. The commentators even yelled at her about not having HK, and she told that she doesn't need it. Cool as fuck.

HK is completely and utterly useless. Better to have a button designated as v trigger. It's crazy, I haven't gotten better skill wise, I just can do shit like her anti-air and max damage combos more effectively solely because of the button layout. Problems with playing on a pad I guess.

I just swap hk for L1 and 3k for L2. Same with right side for punches.

Same layout except I changed HK to v trigger. I use v trigger mid combos alllll the time m, I can't risk fucking it up. 3XK does everything you need except HK command grab when u had meter. HK command grab is only 10 more damage than mK and has less range. Pointless.

This is just my layout for Laura btw. It's different for different characters.

some things, don't every combo cancel into a special with karin unless it's the shoulder, all of them are unsafe on block.
Also you had a tendecy to use the MK mujinkyaku, but I stopped the overhead each time because it's not a blockstring.
You like to save meter to confirm into CA, but really, try spending more meter to making those orochi combos do more damage.

Don't activate v trigger raw against vega, I can just run away all day avoiding it or bait you into something that's unsafe.
Oh and never do the command throw follow up on mujinkyaku, it's garbage, you are better off just not doing any follow up at all.

GGs though, bit rollbacky on my end sometimes.

Laura's actually got a sneaky good, underutilized, super. I use it to finish matches all the time. It has mad range, only 4 frame startup, and essentially beats any poke except for automatic reversals.

I don't even combo it, downscales too much of the damage. I keep track of whether my opponent pokes after a blocked LP Bolt throughout the match, and if they do, I purposefully throw out an LP bolt off of a blocked poke. They block it, and I immediately cancel into her super. If they block it or try to poke, they get got. Easily works 75-80% of the time and gets you full damage.

If they're dumb enough to poke after LP Bolt connects (or not jump back) and keep getting command grabbed, I'll do it after LP Bolt connects too, but you have to delay it a split second.

So who is the best non-ryu, non-Nash character for beginners?
If you're learning to play keep-away characters or charge characters then FANG.

If you're not going for anything specific, just pick whichever character you like and learn the game with that character.

The thing about Ryu is that he's an all-rounder so you have to learn a bit of everything, but you can still learn the game using another character and still be good at it.

Just try to avoid Dhalsim at the beginner level though, he has a bit of a higher skill requirement than most characters.

Got it, & the rollback may be because of my Wi-Fi. I'll be getting a powerline adapter soon (or I may move the set-up downstairs for Ethernet). Either way, GGs, Rezior

I don't know if it's true but someone was saying Birdie is good for starters

Thanks to both of you. I've actually never tried Birdie or FANG. I might give them a shot.

Why wouldn't they be able to jump out after blocked LP bolt? Unless you mean something different.

There are quite a few people without names now that are just called "----" ingame, you can't even report their ragequits anymore lol
