Street Fighter V |OTVIIII| New Generation - Fighting Game Is Something So Great

Just curious, do we have a compiled CFN list besides the heavy hitters on the first page?

If not, I'll make a topic in the discord.

To my knowledge we don't but I may have missed it. I think putting together a list of all the regulars with their league, character(s), and region would be a great idea.

Well someone could at least give a reason as to why they think the design is good?

I guess if you say it's a parody of character designs of the 90s then I guess it has some value but other than that..? It's a weak design in an otherwise good designed roster.

I like him because he's fuckin' ugly and huge and wants nothing more than to drive his truck and possibly become one. He's a straightforward goon with a straightforward game plan which is usually to lumber straight forward and hurl his bulk at his opponent. Abigail's got plenty of bite to go with his bark and he fights with no finesse because he doesn't need it. He just needs to get his mitts on ya and he's going to soak up whatever you can dish out until he can make that happen.

I think we tried doing this 2-3 times. Lists like those never really amount to much. If one wants to find people to play with, there's the Discord channel.

I renamed matchmaking to cfn.

So please post your CFN ID there and that will 'function' as our compiled list from here on out.

In the discord channel #cfn, please only post one CFN ID, the one you use most often. Please post like this to avoid confusion,

He's big as fuck and he hits hard and just looks really goofy while doing most of it. I really like that he's not a traditional grappler like Zangief or T.Hawk. Ed is probably my least favorite design. I love how Akuma plays, but he looks like shit. I get why Urien looks the way he does, but I still think it looks a bit ridiculous. Everyone else I'm mostly fine with

Hearing Menat's v-trigger run out off screen after you beat her and in mid victory pose, is almost as funny as Urien's shattered glass (and dreams) sound effect while he's laid out.

I don't see why it isn't bullshit. Other characters have to usually block it in some manner. He can do a full attack that just allows him to go right through it.

You know he can, so don't reflect his fireball in a range where he can punish with tatsu. It's one of his few tools to get in off a projectile so he'll be looking to use it.

Fair enough.

Though I think the reflect ability on Menat is off sometimes. Like Ryu in my last match did one of his stronger Hadokens and I reflected and Menat even said: "Reflect!" but the ability just went right through it even though the one just before it didn't have that issue.

It doesn't happen often, but I did notice it once or twice tonight.

It's possible I merely reflected too late but I've gone up against enough Ryu's tonight to know when to reflect his various Hadokens.

(Seriously, 80% of my matches in ranked tonight are against Ryu's. Even when I lost my match against Nash at least It wasn't another goddamn Ryu.)

Also I know they can't really do anything to prevent it but goddamn I wish there was some way to prevent smurfs or something. You can always tell if they're from the moment you see the VS screen. When they're on a long win streak and their character level and account level are equal.

vskill is different depending on whether you have the orb or not. With it, it reflects all fireballs. Without it, it absorbs and I don't think it can absorb ex fireballs.

I will admit I'm not too familiar with Ryu's moves names. I know I have reflected back his electrical hadokens with his Vskill on, the ones I couldn't reflect back I don't believe were Vskills as they didn't have that electrical look but they weren't the regular Hadokens either.

I like the sound effect Menat's ball makes when she throws it or calls it back. Sounds like something out of Super Metroid.

New to the game. I assume Ryu is probably the first fighter to learn? Also, since this game lacks an arcade mode, what's the best way to practice with new characters other than getting my asses handed to me in ranked?

I wouldn't. He's really bad right now and the traditional Ryu gameplan doesn't work with the current flow of SFV.

Birdie's actually a good starter character- big buttons, easy combos.

Just hit training and set the dummy in various states depending what you are practicing. Once you feel comfortable, then you can get dat ass whipped online, which is still the best practice imo. And yes, Ryu is a basic starter pick for sure.

I'm talking about Menat. Her reflect is different depending on if you have the orb or not, so you may have been trying to reflect ex hadoukens without the orb.

1) Play in training mode to see all of the basic stuff Ryu can do.
2) Do his trials as far as you can before you get pissed off.
3) Play against the AI until you are comfortable with his buttons (you know which buttons do which moves).
4) Play against people online.
5) Take a break once you are frustrated, and watch a top level Ryu player to reflect on what you are doing differently.
6) Go back to 4.

Wow thanks for the quick responses. I already got pretty alright with Menat, done most of her challenges, and have won a few ranked matches with her. I'll try out Necalli and Birdie and see where it gets me. How's Kolin? I was playing against her online and liked her moveset.

Training mode is what I've been doing mostly but it doesn't quite help me as much as an arcade mode in other games would have if that makes sense.

Koin feels like she's missing "something" in her kit at this point. She's not a bad character but it feels like she might be missing a tool right now. (They may have overemphasized her parries) Definitely give her a shot though, she has a lot of neat movement options.

I just hate that she's our first "ice" character, and absolutely nothing about her relates to ice. You could regraphic her moves and it would all work. I wanted something like Sub-Zero.

Kolin yells "ON YOUR KNEES" when gets an EX air parry, so she's pretty awesome.

Some of the abilities make it seem almost necessary to have a fight stick to do. Like having to press high and light punch at the same time is super difficult when using thumb on a face button and a finger on a trigger. The timing for me just isn't always there. I got a Hori FC4 but still having that issue. I ordered a Hori FSM4 as well just to see if that helps.

She's not missing anything, she's just slightly weak all around. She has the tools, she just doesn't do a lot of damage for a character with such limited mixup potential. Plus she eats EX meter for breakfast to keep her afloat.

Her cMK is a really dominant normal, her anti airs are amazing and she has some of the best blockstring pressure in the game, she just needs to be pumped up one more step to really shine. If she had a faster ice skate startup so you could punch through things more reliably and do air resets without spending a 2nd EX bar then we'd be talking.

Play who you think is fun. If you don't know who might be fun, try to do trials with everybody and watch their demonstrations. You're gonna be trash when you start regardless, you might as well be trash with a character you enjoy playing.

Don't think she's missing a move, what she need is existing moves actually being good enough to warrant using, her fire ball is the easiest fireball to punish in the game, Vega can punish that shit on reaction with his slow ass VT. Nothing is safe with her, you're stuck playing neutral with st.MP and st.LK against anyone who knows the match, and you're not winning without making some hard reads.

But, her VT!... She's also the series first systema user, and they focused more on that part.

Yeah, the meter thing is definitely noticeable watching her play. (also noticeable w/ Rashid/Laura, tho in their cases it's that people keep burning it willy nilly to make strings safe.) Hopefully they look at characters like that going into S3.

Her fireball is a setup move though, it getting punished raw in neutral seems fine?

Yeah, with Kolin it always feels like you have to put in a lot more work than the opponent to get a win, not because she's missing anything, but because everything she does is pretty clunky. Her iceball start-up is brutal.

Yes!!!! I got into Super Bronze.

And according to that announcer, it's a personal best!

Went on a 6 win streak.

Wondering if I should do casuals now and then return to ranked when I feel I'm better.

Maybe get to Ultra Bronze eventually.

I really like Menat but she seems a little complex for someone like me who has never been big into SF. I'm playing with Laura now and already doing better with her.

Man I had my first rage quitter just a moment ago!

I managed to get off my Critical Art and win the game but then everything froze and said I lost my connection to my opponent.

It's like dude, it's a casual. Why would you rage quit? I've been winning more often lately but I still lose a lot and even when I get demolished I still stay...

Menat is gonna be a struggle for just about anybody. Don't be scared tho, if that's who you wanna play.

I'm a Day 1 Laura main, and I started SFV as a lifelong casual who couldn't get out of Rookie. Now I'm a lifelong casual who can't get out of Ultra Gold. Sure, I could have been playing Ryu all this time and been a scrub that people respect, but I chose to be a scrub that ruins the lives of others by spamming stand medium kick. Everybody's got their own journey.
