Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

Seeing the leaked rosters from Silicon Era and Ken Bogard haven't been wrong yet and there being only 5 spots left my bets are going to be

Karin, Alex, Urien, Zen, and Lauren.

Since TGS is next I'm expecting to see Karin there.

The recent comments by Capcom kinda throw the Siliconera leak into question. But at the very least, their first batch of info is looking to be legit. The only sure-deal is Ken Bogard's leak.

yeah, the only real wrench in that is the "characters you'd expect to see" comment, which would make Alex and Urien slightly less likely, but I think ultimately that picture of the character roster split up into the different colors is going to end up being 8 street fighter numbered series characters, 4 street fighter alpha characters, 4 new characters, which would allow for Alex and Urien in the green section

That being said, the involvement of the Illuminati in Charlie's revival & the Illuminati base found in the cave to the right of Forgotten Waterfall does support the possibility of Urien in Street Fighter V's base roster.

Bogard was wrong about Rashid and Necalli. He claimed the three new characters were named Laura, Zen and Rachid. Since there are only 4 new characters he's gotten at least one wrong and can no longer be trusted.

too many blonds

Urien has to be in the mix

Urien is blonde...

wha? He misspelled a name and mentioned 4 new characters despite only giving three names. Ken Bogard's leak was 100% correct

I have never played the SF game she was in, so can somebody enlighten me what's so special about Karin?

She looks like the most boring design imaginable to me.
Unique play style being a mixup/follow up rekka character
Ojousama trope
She's also kinda "Makoto before Makoto" being a serious martial artist that just punches and kicks people

I asked this too!

From what I've gathered it's a mix of personality and her play style. Unlike most SF female characters, Karin is sort of like Mika in that she just beats the shit out of you, and has a rekka move set in the vein of Fei Long, but she's less boring than Fei if that makes sense. I don't want her though so I could be wrong! And they've managed to make every character super interesting (except Cammy) for me so who knows what they'll do.

She's the spoiled rich girl archetype subverted enough that she's actually really likable and has a really fun moveset.

I don't know how subverted she is. Seems like a pretty atypical example of the archetype.

She is a cool character though. I'm interested to see how she is represented in V.

The archetype is usually antagonistic and petty, but she has a rather friendly rivalry with Sakura. Her relationship with Mika was pretty far off from how you'd expect it to play out too from what I recall about it.

Karin's coolness (from a fighting perspective) comes from her Rekkas, she is not like Fei Long or Poison who have 3 straight hits, in Karin's case, after the first hit, you have a variety of options: low kick, another Rekka, anti-air, a combo finisher or a counter. Plus she has counters like Gouken but less sucky (at least in A3). And a comand throw.

Plus she laugs like this

I've always thought that what was cool about Karin personality-wise is that despite absolutely being an ojou character she's much less hot-headed than similar characters and actually pretty chill most of the time (at least in Alpha 3, haven't played NxC or read any of the comics she appears in. I've gotten the impression that she's much more antagonistic in some side material, lol).

But really my favorite thing is just that her animations are really good. She looks so smug during moves like her counter and stuff like her throws look methodical and calculated. They have a lot of personality and I'd love to see how those carry over to SF5.

Also with the new reveal Rashid is not necessarily from North Africa, but I am looking forward to the new North Africa stage :3

I'm not saying that it could happens but I'm trying to clear up the confusion with people taking one translator's words as gospel. I think that those three countries were assumed by translator but I could be wrong.

I'm looking forward to see more information about Rashid. :D

Okay I have a couple of rumors for you GAF. They are probably true.

Ken Bogard is well-known in the french VS fighting community. He's a fighting games commentator and also has a weekly show about VS Fighting on french Web TV "Gaming Live". He apparently has a source at Capcom. All the infos he had in the past turned out to be true and he's not the kind of guy who spread out ridiculous rumors.

So take the following as you want GAF, but I'm 100% trusting that dude.

He also has a weekly "shiny hunting" Pokemon show on that web tv. So on his December 5th Show, while playing, he talked a lot about Street Fighter V. He said he knew stuff and that he'll discretely drop hints during the show. Here's what he said:

- Street Fighter V won't have "Super" or "Hyper" editions. Just updates. He doesn't know if these updates will be free or DLC and does not know if they'll be balancing updates or will add characters and stages.
- The number of characters in the starting roster will be between SFIII and SF IV. He knows the number but not the returning cast.
- There'll be 4 new characters and he knows 3 of them.
- Focus Attacks won't return.
- It'll be released in 2016 and that the month is easy to guess. (He said to think about japanese fiscal years).

Then he dropped some interesting clues. He usually nicknames his Pokemon with stupid joke names but not this time.

3 of his pokemons were nicknamed

- Rachid
- Zen
- Laura

We can assume these are the 3 new fighters he knows about. He also kept mentioning 3 places in the world and he said "there was a reason": Brasil, Africa and India. We can assume Rachid is from Africa, Zen will be from India and Laura from Brasil.

He also named another Pokemon "V-Trigger" which is probably the name of the new SFV mechanic.

So, you know everything. I repeat, I think we can 100% trust Ken Bogard but don't forget either: we're still early in development, things can change.

tl;dr: RUMOR (which I believe is true) French VS fighting commentator seems to have info about SFV. Launch date 2016. No new versions, just updates. 4 new characters: Rachid (Africa), Zen (India), Laura (Brasil) and one more. New mechanic called V-trigger.

Also other quote from same guy,

The origin countries is what I'm not 100% sure of. The show was 2H long. I re-watched it on replay. I only found the moment when he was talking about Africa, India and Brasil. I think I remember him talking about China and Russia too but couldn't seem to find it in the replay videos.

Maybe he knew that Elena, Dhalsim, Sean, Zanghief and Yun/Yang are back. I don't know.

If someone speaks French and want to watch 2 hours of shiny Pokemons hunting, the videos are on Ken Bogard's Youtube page.

There is other translation for information by someone else.

- Time / Weather effects in stages
- Release date : 2016, before the end of the fiscal year.
- Unreal Engine 4
- The new mechanic is named V-Trigger : You can change your stance.
- 16 characters
- No Super Street Fighter 2X + EX (Updates kinda like League of Legends / Killer Instinct)
- The story mode will be way much better, they know they fucked up with sf4.
- The PC version is here mostly because they want to bring the game to Latin America, South Asia, Africa...

So I could see how they would assumed those locations with the information they had: Latin America = Brazil, South Asia = India, Africa = Africa! Also it's easy to assign the names to the countries.

This type of character is just popular with people. That's why a bunch of people want her even though they never played Alpha 3. She was Lili before Lili was created in Tekken. And Lili is so popular, she became one of the faces of the Tekken franchise and they also put her in Digimon.

you really need to stop with these assumptions as facts.

Exactly. From the archetype you'd expect her rivalry with Sakura to be petty and vengeful, but actually she wants to beat her to uphold her family honor and is more friendly toward her than anything.

The rivalry is closer to Ken and Ryu's than Lili and Asuka's.
