About the Game

Stronghold 3 is the long-awaited third installment in the award winning castle-building series. Set 10 years after the original, the Wolf it seems, has cheated death and during his painful recovery he’s become even more bitter and twisted. Now he seeks revenge. Raiding villages and towns during the dead of night, the Wolf has created a tide of panic and you and your allies are the only force that stand against him. In this stunning new update to the world’s favorite Castle Sim - will you triumph by day or die by night?

Background

The original Stronghold told the story of The Boy and his quest for revenge against Duc de Puce (The Rat), Duc Beauregard (The Snake), Duc de Truffe (The Pig) and Duc Volpe (The Wolf) for the ambush and murder of his father. After the capture of the King abroad, enemy invasion, civil war and his father's ambush en route to negotiate a treaty with The Snake, The Boy was pushed back to a forest on an overlooked peninsula. It was here that he found a small band of troops still loyal to the King and, with the help of Lord Woolsack and Sir Longarm, began to take back the country county by county. Eventually The Boy confronted The Wolf in his tower, after an intense battle he impaled the enigmatic Wolf on his sword and threw him to what he thought was his death.

Stronghold 3 Plot

Set 10 years later, Stronghold 3 follows the continuing story of The Boy. The Wolf, it seems, has cheated death and become bitter, twisted and psychotic during his painful recovery in the east. Now it is he who seeks revenge. By raiding towns and villages in the dead of night The Wolf has created a tide of panic, with The Boy and his allies the only force to stand against him.

Any reviews yet? Fans seem to be (bitterly) disappointed with it over at the official and Steam forums. I love the original but I'm hesitant to slap down $50 for this.

The fuck, this is already out?

I'm going to need to see some reviews before picking up. Stronghold 2 was a mess.

I did appreciate the old games of this series and I fucking loved CivCity Rome. I will keep a serious eye on this one here.

Last I checked, I didn't even see an official release date, other than fall '11. Weird. Steam forums are throwing a fit. Seems like a possible wash on this one too. That would be a bummer.

Thank you, noble OP. Grabbing it now. Steam will ensure that aeons pass before I actually play it, but nevertheless.

sounds like it was rushed.

apparently arrows go thru your walls and hit your villagers, and a bunch of balance issues.

sad, im looking for a little more than fps games, and nothing new seems to be cutting it.

Totally forgot about this coming out today. I remember borrowing my mom's laptop every night just to play the first Stronghold. I will probably pick this up.

I love the original, but 50€ without a demo is too much...

By the way, people doesnt look very happy on the steamforums :(

The Steam forum for this game makes me sad...there is no way I can buy this game in such a state. What a mess. I'd been looking forward to it, too.

wow, this game refuses to create a multiplayer account for me. so does this game have a lot of problems?

The first game was fantastic. I remember playing the demo for hours an hours when I was younger.

Might pick this up if the issues aren't too severe.

Such a shame. :/

Firefly has been doing bad lately. SH3 didn't even look too great (the walls are ugly), now there seems to be a lot of issues with the gameplay.

Seems like their last good game was actually SH Kingdoms, which was basically a F2P MMO SH1.

yeah, i don't use it as gospel but this is niche enough the people on there would seem to have a level of familiarity with the previous games, the stuff they are complaining about seem like obvious balance issues or "just don't give a fuck ship it", attitude.

*Sighh* :(

My hopes and dreams have been shattered. I'm never going to take previews word for word again. Hyperbole, all of it.

The screenshots looked so dull, and for such a niche title, I couldn't understand why they were charging $50.

Screenshots for the earlier games are far more appealing and I guess that's where I'll be staying.

edit: The Steam forums are awesome: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=433

I like this bug a lot:
I tried to play the first mission where I have to rescue the lady of the castle and escort her to safety. The game gave me control of the enemy troops instead of the friendly ones. I murdered the lady and failed the mission.

so this games officially an absolute failure? I feel like I'm the only person to have purchased this game.

Sorry for the bump but its currently on sale on steam and i wanted to know if a) the issues has been sorted yet and b) if a skirmish/freeplay mode was now in the game?

Read the forums. Seems like v1.10 was good but there's still seriously not completely fixed. Multiplayer still needs fixing.
