got in the Machinarium record. I am not as familiar with the soundtrack, but assume it will be interesting. I got it mostly for collecting purposes initially.

yesteday i got:

Nirvana - Nevermind - 180g ORG pressing Blue vinyl
Nirvana - Unplugged - 180g ORG pressing Red vinyl
Coltrane - A Love Supreme - 180g vinyl
Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced - 180g vinyl
Kenny Burrel and Jimmy Smith - Blue Bash! - 180g vinyl

Went to two garage sales last week, paid about $30 for everything.

Plus 'Love it to Death' and a Dion Greatest Hits Comp. I saw a 'License to Ill' in worse shape than mine go for $25, so I may sell that and break even.

hey gaf peeps.

What is the best product(s) for cleaning records? All my stuff is in pretty decent shape, I just want to keep it that way. Also, what is the best way to use the product/clean the record?

Any input on the types of outer sleeves and inner sleeves I should pick up?

Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

^^^ i wish i can afford as much vinyl as you.

The only thing i picked up during Record Store Day was:
23532_381401228917_784798917_3838898_8160111_n.jpg

a first pressing and rare Godflesh s/t album.

Huzzah, a vinyl sect on GAF!

I'm in the process of cataloguing my vinyl record collection now (it's not that big...she said) and will be making videos of it eventually, if for nothing else than personal satisfaction (this idea's been bugging me for a while now).

I'd take pics of my setup at the least, but my sister has my camera.

Anyhoo, nice to know there's a place on GAF for my fellow music nerds.

Snagged a copy of David Bowie's Low today for $3 which is in pretty good condition as well as a copy of Mountain's Climb that's passable for $2. Good day.

I'm pretty poor, but I saw that my local Newbury Comics still had the Sonic Youth EVOL reissue from record store day. Cost me 26 bucks but only 1500 were made, and this is one of my favorite records from the 80s. Probably my second favorite Sonic Youth LP, after Daydream (but tied with Sister)

It sounds much better than my MP3s, and it's pink!

"It was a great day for recorded music as sales surged during America’s third annual Record Store Day on April 17th. Compared to the prior week, overall U.S. album sales in the independent sector increased 12% including a whopping 119% vinyl sales jump for the weekend and 529% growth in vinyl single sales, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Acts from the Black Keys to Soundgarden to Bruce Springsteen released exclusive vinyl singles, part of the nearly 175 limited vinyl and CD releases offered in the U.S. for Record Store Day. Overall album sales were up 3% on a year-over-year basis, while chain music stores saw a 7% Record Store sales gain this year. 1,400 stores worldwide including 800 in U.S. participated."

Picked these up last week. Unfortunately, one of the discs for Kicking Television has a defect in it, so I'll have to exchange it.

I'm going to browse local shops for an older edition. I bought that as well but I have yet to open it as I feel it could be very collectable down the road. It's already jumped from the $20 I paid for it to around $40.

Hi all. I'm just starting out in the world of vinyl. Here are some of my recent purchases:

Picked up a few vinyls before the end of semester.

The best album I've ever heard. The raw energy and passion are incredible on this record. I was lucky enough to be one of the few who snagged this limited repressing.

Nice. I have been waiting to pick this up for a while too. I missed the record store day event completely, so now I have to backpeddle to the tune of $65 to get this one :/

I think the whole album is great too.

This week's pickups.

Mono - Holy Ground: NYC Live (3xLP+DVD)
Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank (2xLP)
- Sad Sappy Sucker (LP)
- Perpetual Motion Machine (7")
- Autumn Beds (7")
- Satellite Skin (7")

Does anyone know where to get larger sleeves for records? The Mono set is about as big as two gatefolds, and I'd like to keep it protected.

Ready to take the plunge here.

Should I buy the Pro-Ject Debut III for 369.00 and a separated Pro-Ject preamp for 159.00

http://www.needledoctor.com/Pro-Ject-Turntables-Debut-III-Basic-Black

http://www.needledoctor.com/Pro-Ject-Phono-Box-II-Phono-Preamp?sc=2&category=401

Or just buy this beast instead? It's the same Pro-Ject Debut III but with integrated preamp and usb for 499.00?

http://www.needledoctor.com/s.nl/it.A/id.8533/.f

I suppose buying them separately is best since I can upgrade the turntable and use the preamp with another, but as I live in Brazil I'll have to pay extra shipping.

Separate is better. If the phonostage develops a problem at least you won't have to lug the whole turntable to the shop.

Watch me sit in front of a crappy iSight camera talking about my boring records!:D

Started this last week and want to make more, there's a second part buried in my user channel too...be gentle :(

Gotta say, I liked where you were coming from. You give it a real personal touch that I think any vinyl, scratch that, music enthusiast could relate to.

That said, it's amazing to hear from someone that rarely buy's online. I'd go out of my mind if I couldn't buy online, it's probably one of the main stepping stones that got me back into collecting again. And I have quite a few record stores within my area.

The selection online is very deep.

I enjoyed the videos, it's a great concept. The only thing I disliked was the transitions to the music. I thought they were a little jarring with how loud the music was compared to how quiet your voice is. Overall, I liked them and I'm looking forward to future videos.

Ya, I'll grab something from Amazon if I have credit, and I have bought the occasional impulse buy on ebay, but around 85-90% of my collection is in store.

I was told that as well but I didn't think it was that bad. I'll keep it in mind in the next video I do, but as I said I don't really hear it so it's going to be an experiment.:D
