Mostly shooting, every characters has a melee attack, but you can't really do any melee combo, the purpose of the melee button is to launch the enemy in the air and shoot, that's not very fun and i find the lack of melee combo very disapointing (i did, my friend too)

If I had played this alpha, I might be inclined to say that it was very, very good and made with a lot of love, and that fears as to it's quality are completely unfounded.
