"Suikoden IV retains both interesting storytelling and a compelling cast, but it mixes in a number of flawed and frustrating elements. There's enough of the traditional Suikoden formula here to give this title a draw, despite some broken seafaring and a tedious encounter rate, but the game can only be recommended with caution. Those who are well used to abusive levels of random battles will find the game less ornery than most, but even those hardy souls may need an extra touch of patience for Suikoden IV."

Man the minute I opened my copy and saw the booklet was B&W, I knew itd be a massive dissapointment

Snif...

I wasn't really drawn by Suikoden 3 anyhow... I guess now that my nick is really inspired by the greatness of the first game.

How did you like Suikoden 2 then?

I still have the savegame for the first game and I am stuck at some stealth mission. :(

That's about what I'd give Suikoden 3. Given the scaling of past reviews, does that make 4 better or worse than 3?

Well, Gamespot, for example, gave 3 a 9.1.

Ouch.

Gamespot gave Suikoden 3 a *9.1*???

holy fuck, and I thought giving Shenmue a 6.8 was too damn high.

Take a look at some of the other scores. IGN gave it 9.4 (Which is the highest score from a source I've heard of not named Game Informer...9.5)

I would never, ever say S3 was a waste of 45 hours, but it was flawed; flawed in areas very basic, it makes you wonder how it shipped like that. It's sad S4's followed a similar path.
