It wasn't so much that the violence was well done(though it certainly was), but that I was really rooting for Ichise and wanted him to succeed and be happy regardless of what he had to do to achieve it. His existence was just pure suffering up to that point.
I'm wondering what you think about some of these things now that you've finished it... I mean, about the violence and whether you could take it, specifically. That ending has to have a big impact on both of those points, to say the least.
Even at its worst, the violence never entered the realm of gore-porn. To provide contrast, I couldn't enjoy Blood C nearly as much because the gore made me too uncomfortable to invest myself in the show at all. Texhnolyze managed to avoid that while still being really brutal.
As for taking it, well...
the show ended up being a lot more FUCK YEAH than I ever expected. After the pure distilled satisfaction of episode 10, the other shoe didn't drop until episode 20 when Doc resigned to staying behind.* Despite the unrelenting nihilism of the last three episodes(Onishi's secretary's story arc and its conclusion hit me really hard), the series isn't as consistently painful as something like School Days.
I mean that in a good way, however. A big part of what made Texhnolyze such a great experience was how well-rounded it was. It wasn't at all the one-note show that I was expecting.

What was the deal with the water leaking out from under her door in the hotel?
The only two positives from this were TLR's move to Jump SQ and the brief run of Yabuki's Mayoi Neko Overrun, which was great but unfortunately cut short. What an awful incident. Although from what I understand, MNO's light novel was having its own artist troubles so it might not have been in Yabuki's control.
- A comment of Yabuki's while this was all happening:
[While I was working hard on a manga that was focused on taking young girls' panties off, another man was taking my wife's panties off.
New opening is okay I guess. Probably need to listen to the full version as others have done before me as I do remember people saying they preferred it over the 1st OP.
Lan's
brother is a heartless bastard isn't he? Willing to risk her well being for some damn test results. I hope he dies soon.
After deciding to marathon both seasons of Sora no Otoshimono on a whim this weekend I noticed that the OPs on Forte were only in English, compared to the normal alternating with Japanese. The EDs were also all in English, but with a different ED to each episode this is no surprise. Is FUNimation doing this with newer title releases? SnO:F is the newest FUNi release I own so I have nothing to compare with until I get around to ordering some of the Geneon re-releases.

Yabuki should have made Haruna a bigger butt monkey in Darkness after all that shit. With how much of a bitch the wife is, it might actually get to her.

Sora no otoshimono is pretty awesome.
I was kind of upset that they released the first season on bluray but Forte is Dvd only. What the fuck is up with that?
Can someone explain to me why so many people are excited about this show when it's my understanding that the original To Love-ru is terrible crappy magical girlfriend harem stuff? Are there just more tits in Darkness or something? It's not going to make me suddenly care about the show either way, but I am somewhat bemused as to why it seems so popular.
To loveru darkness is like an unleashed version of something mild ...
The only reason i read to love ru was for the crazy situations , the comic aspect of it . darkness go further while pushing the boundaries of eichi stuff.. it's awesome
I've avoided reading any discussion on the show since I fell behind, so forgive me if I dredge up issues that have already been discussed to death.
Let's get this out of the way first: everything about this show pisses me off. The cheap hamfisted emotional manipulation, Kirito's dumbshit inconsistent illogical attitude toward pretty much everything, minor characters lacking any similarity to actual human behavior whatsoever who exist solely to complicate things, the fact that the game world is apparently so boring that they can skip fucking half of it in a single episode and expect no one to notice, the utter absurdity of the premise continually undermining the believability of the drama (not that there's been any good drama yet anyway), everything.
The world is not boring but it's a mmo ... the cool stuff is obviously NOT at the beginning so yeah skipping to the middle part of the game , once everyone has learn one way or another to survive in such an absurd world is way better than what was skipped.
I mean, Kirito--what's this guy's deal? We go from the whole
"fuck you guys I'm the greatest gamer in the history of gaming and I'll beast the whole game solo"
declaration in the previous episode to
Kirito cooperating with a random guild and playing nice and letting people get experience points and items that he could easily take for himself while concealing his true power level from these guys for who knows what benefit other than to be DARK AND MYSTERIOUS and I suppose a dash of paranoia that these dudes are going to be like the morons from the first level screaming BEATER RABBLE RABBLE if it's discovered just how good at the game he is
. Then he's back to
lone wolf again because he's angsting over his own misplaced blame over his guild's deaths, gives the only guy in the whole game that cares whether he lives or dies the cold shoulder, and throws away an immensely valuable item just because he can't use it on a cute girl that he hang out with for a little while
. Somehow Kirito still feels like a non-character to me but this can't possibly be true when so much happens to him in the course of a single episode.
It's clear that his attitude at the end of Ep 2 wasn't his real intentions.. if you paid attention it's clear that he was lying .. if he hadn't done that , the guy death would have been a total waste as the goal of it was to motivate people to clear the game ..he made it himself as the bad guy but it was all a lie to get people to play ( properly ) despite the dangers.
it's not like kirito isn't confident in his own skills his social skills aren't the best of the bunch. ( also shown in ep 2 )
This episode had its share of other crazy shit, though:
-
one of the beater guys killing himself in front of Kirito because WHY
They were a close bunch. he choose to die rather than continue being stuck in this for god know when ..Out of the 10000 people in Sao many don't want the danger and some only continue because they have some sort of emotionnal support. Yes it was silly , i wouldn't have done something like that but it's was a bond he made with people , and he choose that bond over the rest
-
The Black Cat guild suddenly being one-shotted by normal enemies just to facilitate tragedy
Those weren't normal ennemies ..they were in unfamilliar territory AND into a trap ( made to kill people ) Traps are traps because they can and will kill unprepared players..
No formattion , overpowerred ennemies , no teleport possible , almost no way to escape.
-
SKIPPING THE WHOLE FUCKING FIGHT with the Santa Claus boss
Afraid to see his lie exposed .Kirito is actually sensible on a lot of stuff and at this point in time , the beater issue was still around. Later everyone will realise this was a foolish accusation , but in a world where death is possible ...accusing people or a group of people for everything that doesn't work was the easy way for many people. Even if he didn't show the insult in ep2 got to him and a lot of things during that time too.
-
lazily telegraphing the girl's death waaaaay ahead of time with the "I don't want to die" conversation
And I'm probably forgetting other stuff.
For all the problems I have with this, I'm still very compelled to watch more, if only to see what levels of incredulity I can reach.

Basically, due to being released so close to the Japanese release, Funi was faced with the same problem like the P4 release and I guess they decided to fuck with the BluRay release and release it DVD only instead of the BluRay not having Japanese voices.

With FUNi doing combo-packs with most new titles and even some older ones, a hybrid DVD and English-only Blu-ray is not extremely bad for the first initial release. Just a matter of opinion and compensating.
This episode was great in not only fleshing out all the characters and their families, but there was a good dialogue on the importance of family, relationships, and the importance of being able to let go when it's time to. Headtilts.
A really heartfelt episode that really went into all of these things, and was just really, really good.
