It's interesting how anime turns things that might theoretically be interesting given a very specific context, like metatextuality or genrsaviness, into everyday occurrences with no thought put into them. It's just part of that checklist that has to be ticked.

Yeah, it's weird. You make a character a nerd? That's fine because anime. But when the nerd character becomes self-aware and is a nerd that comments on nerd aspects of the show that they're in? It just becomes pointless self-awareness.

I certainly don't use the word to describe all little girls under a certain age in anime--if a child acts as a child realistically would, calling her anything other than a child is unwarranted. I think that I'm a bit more expansive in my use of the term simply because even little girls in anime that aren't blatantly sexualized can exhibit traits that, unintentionally or otherwise, are "passively" sexual.

For instance, consider the pairing of mature mind with an immature body, which is presumably the "ideal" or "the best of both worlds" for some lolicons. Precocious children are far too common in anime for it not to be a significant point of appeal for viewers. Character traits like tsundere play into some males' sexual fantasies of being verbally abused by women.

I understand anyone who strives to be selective with the use of "loli" in order to prevent the original meaning from being lost and I don't disagree with being careful in its use; I may just happen to see loli pandering in places where others would argue that it doesn't exist.



No worries, I'm definitely not going to begrudge anyone their personal stance on when and where the word is appropriate to use as the concept of "loli" itself is at least partially subjective in what it applies to.
