Apologies, it's a personal thing - I object to the overuse of the word "loli" to describe all little girls in anime because to me it implies a sexual element to the description (I know, I know, goth loli has no such implications etc. etc. but that's how it is to me).

So you're right - I think within anime fandom it's not an inherently sexual term. But to me, it is.
i don't think you can escape the sexual connotations of the word, considering the word's origin and the way it's applied these days, as haphazard and overused as it may be.

sometimes a little girl is just a little girl.

I don't think I really got into ROD TV until
Yomiko was reintroduced in the show
which was probably more than halfway through its run, if I recall correctly. I also thought it was dumb how
that one ditsy secretary girl became such a bitch in such a short span of time
.

Frankly, I think the show would've greatly benefited from a shorter runtime because as it is, it takes too much time for it to start getting anywhere.

For whatever reason I was compelled to look up Divergence Eve on Wikipedia. I suppose that I mainly wanted to know when it was made and what Studio created a work with such awful character designs. It would have certainly made more sense to go straight to ANN but if I had done that I would have missed out on this amazing part of the Wikipedia page:

The exacting level of detail the writer of this entry goes into is hilarious.
Maybe I wrote it.
I didn't
I think the reason why shows like this didn't bother me is because I watched them when bad CG was the norm. you just kind of got used to seeing it. This is how I glossed over the dragon from FSN.

The CG doesn't detract from the show for me, they make watching it more enjoyable.

the pacing for ROD tv is pretty bad, but I'm still really fond of it--some great action, cool setting, and I really liked the sisters, even Anita. I do wonder at how Masunari might handle the Magi adapt in light of his work on RODtv though, although it's been years so it might not matter anymore. I should watch some of his more recent work.

four letters > eleven letters(including the space)

It's kind of weird, though. Loli isn't inherently sexual to me, but I still have a hard time separating the sexual connotations from shota even though they're (afaik) two sides of the same coin.

Prince of Badminton charge!

Start with the bad. After watching the movie, having to see the while nicely done but TV version recap of the last four episodes was pretty bad.

But other than that, this episode was hilarious. Fortress mode, SOL, pit traps, stalking. It was all amazing.

Solid episode. I think this is more a build up episode for the next one. Everyone seems to be so
concerned with Yui that Inaba's problems are not recognized. You can really see it at the end when she asked Taichi if she wasn't good enough. Even though Inaba is the default leader of the group she is the most isolated. Aoki has Yui and Taichi has Iori.

Next episode seems
that Inaba will replace Yui and she will be the one to stay home. You can see in the previews that Aoki and Taichi almost fight (my guess it will be jealousy of Yui). Hopefully Taichi fixes everything again

He doesn't really work much. His most recent works were Welcome to the Space Show and Kamichu.

It seems like he has experience on action/shounen stuff. Just not as the director. Should be interesting.

This seems like as good of a place (if any) to ask this: Should I buy Samurai 7? If so, what edition do I get? I am seeing a Viridian Collection and a regular box set. Is there another all conclusive edition I should get?

I have never seen this show but I am intrigued.

Yomiko is a supreme goddess. She is Goddess among goddesses.

No shame. It comes with a nice audio CD. Plus Charles is in it. Charles makes everything better.

ROD TV is just fun. Its absolutely fun. The set came with all kinds of cool postcards and pencil boards and little translation booklets. Really neat packaging.

I certainly don't use the word to describe all little girls under a certain age in anime--if a child acts as a child realistically would, calling her anything other than a child is unwarranted. I think that I'm a bit more expansive in my use of the term simply because even little girls in anime that aren't blatantly sexualized can exhibit traits that, unintentionally or otherwise, are "passively" sexual.

For instance, consider the pairing of mature mind with an immature body, which is presumably the "ideal" or "the best of both worlds" for some lolicons. Precocious children are far too common in anime for it not to be a significant point of appeal for viewers. Character traits like tsundere play into some males' sexual fantasies of being verbally abused by women.

I understand anyone who strives to be selective with the use of "loli" in order to prevent the original meaning from being lost and I don't disagree with being careful in its use; I may just happen to see loli pandering in places where others would argue that it doesn't exist.

No worries, I'm definitely not going to begrudge anyone their personal stance on when and where the word is appropriate to use as the concept of "loli" itself is at least partially subjective in what it applies to.

The usage of the word loli is pretty loaded and thought by the general populace to refer to pedophilia. I dont think thats just, but it is what it is. Similarly I dont refer to things as moe unless I'm somewhat sarcastic/joking. Things are cute if not seen in a sexual way. Some things are cute and not in any way sexual, such as little bugs or objects. Girls can be cute without being sexually attractive. Its all a slippery slope though. Merely having an avatar of a cute girl makes you a target on this forum.

Well, definitely, the use of "loli" is corrupted beyond repair among people who don't identify with anime fandom, especially because it suits an agenda. We have more leeway amongst ourselves to use specialized terms as a descriptive shortcut even when they don't entirely fit, though, because for a lot of things we can all agree on what they generally imply even if we don't agree on what they specifically imply.

No one here except for maybe Uchip believes that cute/moe are inherently sexual, and I think we're all pretty free in expressing what we believe is cute here anyway without caring if we're judged or by whom.

It's a shame we are returning to shit next week, this episode was pretty fun to watch. Dragons, fighting, giant robots, lots of cool stuff. Now all we have to look forward to is garbage, and girl corruption.

This show is not shit.
It has been enjoyable the entire way. The only possible exception is
Noumi
but we're supposed to hate him anyway.

Ugh. The overall narrative was great but the theme and the character development just felt so rushed that it was hard for me to care. The ending was particularly jarring because it's hard to see that's how Kirito feels or how Lizbet feels. It just feels like there was no precedence for that stuff and as a result it feels out of the blue. I think this episode suffers from pacing and rushing just like episode 3 but not to the crazy degree. It's just hard to care about Lizbet and the themes of the episode when it doesn't really give you precedence or the time to sink in. Other than that, it was an okay episode. Great that it remained faithful to the SS though compared to the other SSs.

*sigh*. Oh well. It sucks that this show has the ability for so much awesome fight scenes yet it opts for still pictures for fights. Come on...

The meaning of the term lolita has been corrupted by anime fandom, not the other way around.

It's used inappropriately by both fans and non-fans, but I don't think that it's wrong to assume that non-fans use it even more incorrectly due to the association between all anime girls and pedophilia, not just those that resemble young children.

the term is always going to fraught with such undertones due to its history and usage. Perhaps its continued usage by the community has diluted its connotations, but then i dunno what that says about the community.

i'd say that non-fans use it more appropriately than the fans.

I really dont see what they see in her, her smile isnt that great. The whole Mitsuhide-san, Nobunaga-sama, and Hideyoshi-san jealously conquest plot was actually really interesting to follow and pretty memorable. Unfortunately the execution was done in such a way that I was struggling to stay awake during non intense moments
the initial conference, the reveal of jealously and spark of secret treasure development, Nobunaga's true feelings, and then the fire/amnesia. Really if Nobunaga had just said her true feelings up front she could have avoided being the target for being killed by the one she held dear.

Sword Art Online 7

Decent episode, but it was adapted from the worst SS, so it was never going to be great. Still, it was the one SS that was adapted most faithfully, so I guess that's something. This particular subplot was interesting and pretty enjoyable, but it suffered a bit due to the rushed pacing and Lizbeth being a rather mediocre character.

The next episode looks like it will finally be the return to the main story though, which is considerably better than most of the SS's, and, thankfully, Asuna will be involved much, much more.

More like a return to forced drama and annoyingly Gary Stu bullshit, sure.

Yeah, I don't want to the sexual connotation to the word to disappear entirely. It's clear that it's evolved beyond its original meaning, but perhaps the community should have maintained a stringent definition and instead created a separate category for young female characters that are slightly uncomfortably pander-y or act in an agelessly "anime" way without being, y'know, Kokonoe Rin.

i'd say that non-fans use it more appropriately than the fans.

That hasn't really been my personal experience, unless we're combining the "being attracted to any underage character is deviant/immoral" and "being attracted to any character that is clearly presented as a small child is deviant/immoral" debates. And that's an incredibly messy and semantics-driven topic so let's just sidestep that entirely, hahah.
