Fellow UK bods may be interested that Scotland Loves Animation have announced their lineups.

Aside from the EVA movies and the obligatory bits of Shinkai (Garden of Words in Edinburgh, Place Promised... in Glasgow), the following items are of particular interest:

Glasgow gets the incredibly dull Budori Guskou (
trust me, I subbed it, it's not worth it
), the Hunter X Hunter movie (odd choice!), Fuse (read duckroll's recent impressions), and Patema Inverted, which I think's the most exciting of the lot. They'll also be showing a "mystery film", and an HD version of Perfect Blue.

The mystery film will apparently be a premiere, but Moonphase is blocked by my school's firewall for porn so I can't make an educated guess using their list any more :(

Edinburgh, in the meantime, gets Budori Guskou, Patema, Fuse and the mystery film, plus HAL (accompanied by a "mystery OVA" which is almost certainly GitS Arise ep 1), Aura and the Steins;Gate movie. Makoto Shinkai will also be in Edinburgh to answer questions on Garden of Words (I hope someone asks him about feet...)

A pretty interesting line-up in both places. I don't think I can go to either this year, but although I'd love to see Patema and HAL in particular none of them are as exciting for me as NeraGaku was last year so I'm not that devastated.

Nichibros > Nichijou. I enjoyed both but Nichijou most of the times it was just for the animation. When I can go a whole episode without even so much as a chuckle to myself, you done fucked up on the comedy side.

Is this anime trying to make me upset ?
Is this anime trying to ?

Ahem

This episode was quite great ..but even if it confirmed some facts in put on the table way more problems... Again a cliffanger ! i don't know how you guys did when this was airing because i would have been nuts if i had to wait 1 week to know the rest.

Yea, I'm also definitely having issues with the coloring. It looks more faded.

Faded is the wrong word, since the colors in Kill la Kill are on the darker side. Muted would be the better choice.

The mystery film will apparently be a premiere, but Moonphase is blocked by my school's firewall for porn so I can't make an educated guess using their list any more :(

The most exciting possibility I could see is Majocco Shimai no Yoyo to Nene. Less exciting but more probable is the Captain Harlock film. Those are the two main possibilities I see.

Well, they do say it's traditionally animated, and that it's a "film for all the family". That would seem to rule out Harlock... I would be very surprised if it's Majocco Shimai, but you could be right!

It's suitable for all ages, and they explicitly say it's not CG, so Harlock is... unlikely. Kind of a shame, because I want to see that!

Anyway, as per usual, I should be at both weekends, so I look forward to being bored by at least Budori Guskou and Fuse twice over.

I see. In that case, it has to be Majocco Shimai, there's nothing else that fits that's releasing in the right timeframe. Unless it's something out of left field that I haven't heard of.

This episode...

Those feels

That parting ..

i ....have some water on my face now... why ?

Shinsekai%20Yori%20-%20From%20the%20New%20World%20-%2010.jpg

A fatal flaw
On a graphical levels this is like ep 5... except that the whole setting works much better with this visual style now ...Some very important questions were answered but damn if i'm not satisfied.

Poor saki.

Infinite amounts of jealousy. I'll bet the crowds are far better behaved than any American audience would be too.

I can't speak for anything other than the films I saw last year, but the audience was great - we all saved our incredulous chatter until the very end! I've never seen a big franchise film like Eva or whatever in the cinema so I don't know how SLA's audience reacts to anything with a bigger following. The screenings at the BFI have always had good audiences, too - but then, British cinema etiquette is, I believe, much more restrained than that of the US in general.

I have an idea of what you're talking about - when I was a student I ran my university's anime society, and we had a huge problem with people MST3k-ing their way through everything, no matter how good or bad it was. I think at something like the Madoka movies when you've got a critical mass of geekdom, the combination of sharing something you love with a large audience plus all that social awkwardness turns into something quite hideous :p

The SLA audience is usually cool, except for that one year they screened Interstella 5555 and some girl spent half of it complaining very loudly to her friends about having been taken to see an anime movie. She was, of course, told to silence her tongue in a fashion that only a Scottish gentlemen can likely muster :)

Audiences over here still kinda go nuts for Eva, though - I've not seen any of them at SLA previously, but I did see 2.0 at the BFI three or four years back. This isn't to say that anything particularly impolite was going on, and there was a good atmosphere, but to call the audience 'enthusiastic' would be a bit of an understatement. I can't say I expect the reaction to 3.0 to be quite so overwhelming, particularly given most the audience has probably seen it at this point.

I wonder what the token anime movie at the London Film Festival will be this year...

The worse out of all the showings I've been to for SLA was probably the Haruhi movie. There seemed to be a lot of people coming from all over the place including a french group in cosplay right next to me so that may explain the slight rowdiness but there wasn't really any excessive talking or what not. Generally it's just laughing in the right places and such (or in my case laughing at inappropriate moments at the end of Wolf Children whoops.)

Looking forward to Patema and Steins at least and I'll probably take a punt on most of the rest of them as well. Shame they didn't add the comedy of Mardock 3 though.

Love Lab Episode 9 : Yea, not going to lie, this episode didn't do it for me, as I just don't care for Love Lab in super serious mode, I like this show to make me laugh and it didn't really do it. I get what they were gong for here, emotional core stuff, but too on the melodramatic side for me to enjoy. Ah well, better luck next week.

Yeah. This was far and away my favorite episode of this series.

I can't write these kind of post form my impressions but i agree .

The visuals effects in ep 10 worked so well because the place where this all took place was unknow.

I know this whole power things seems kinda limitless given what we saw so far ...but seriously i wasn't expecting such a turn of events. i'm actually glad that the cast acted quickly ... and i'm even more satisfied seeing everyone reactions to the whole mess that was created. This isn't just a simple manipulation thing , the characters actually behaved in a way that made sense given their restrictions and the whole episode was filled with very awesome backgrounds to show that even a desolated village can look good.

Now the end was just yet another mild cliffanger.
Are they doing that on purpose to force me to watch the rest ? because it's freaking working !!

The worst was the panoramic shot of the back of my baldy head which turned up on a German language blog after that Haruhi screening...

Maturity, bitches.
Bgbw you wily little fibber :D
To my credit I'm pretty sure the previous time that show came up I said I had dropped it so I have personally never said the show is good. AoT is the perfect example of why one should never judge a book by its cover.

It could also be the Bodacious Space Pirates movie, but that would be a really poor fit for a judge's choice in a film festival like this. Especially considering the general line up. If it is Majocco, at least we know that it's a full length 110min movie. For whatever reason, I've been having this impression that it might be a short movie.

Edit: Oh, here's another possible candidate: http://www.buddha-anime.com

You have six episodes left and they're the best six episodes, man. Whatever else you were watching can wait.

Turn A Gundam 32

Dianna Soriel mentions "Gyn Gingham" in this episode, and at first, that meant nothing to me. Then I remembered that very vaguely, the name "Jin Gehenam" has come up once or twice in Victory Gundam. No idea if there's a connection there or not, but Gundam Historia will explain it all to me! Anyway, most of this episode was dedicated to how hilariously stupid Lt. Poe is. At first it doesn't seem so, what with Lt. Harry making out with her to instantly heal her of the cold (I saw this in a video game recently, too!), but then the shit hits the fan and the Turn A is ripping her goddamn ship into a million pieces and only after she's sunk does Poe remark "Hey! I forgot I had an MS I could use to fight back with! Too late! Glubglub."

I think I might rewatch again just for the Poe shenanigans. One of the best joke characters in all of Gundam.

I suppose it does say a lot about the rest of Turn A that I still consider it my favorite Gundam in spite of Poe and the Moon hippies.

I didn't watch Space Pirates, but it struck me as a bit cute-girls-and-fake-lesbians to be described as "for all the family". I agree it would be an odd choice for SLA, although I believe it's had a DVD release here.

I had thought so too, particularly because I think you mentioned it was based on a short picture book?

It's worth noting that, if I'm parsing the rather garbled English on the HAL/GitS Arise page properly (I think the paragraph that basically tells us its GitS is an earlier draft of the one that follows), HAL is only an hour long, whereas I had thought that was a full length movie.

Edit: Oh, here's another possible candidate: http://www.buddha-anime.com

Well, that would certainly be niche :p I'm a little surprised they haven't gone for the Saint Young Men movie, actually.

Oh my. And all this time I thought that Wit was struggling on Shingeki because they were splitting the studio into doing a full movie and a TV series! Lololol. >_<

Well, there you go! I'm not saying lesbians aren't for all the family, but anime ones usually aren't :p

Hmmm, not sure if Jenny and Lynn would be in the movie, but yea, they would not be the most "family friendly" (words can not ascribe the hatred I put into that term)of couples, it was one of the comedic overtones of their romantic interludes.

Bodacious Space Pirates is definitely not for the whole family. Buddha would probably be, but being the second of a series makes it doubtful (was the first ever shown at SLA?).

You Are Umasou was based on a picture book, and that was a full movie.

I'd totally go, though putting together a last minute trip to Germany is nigh impossible :(
Your hunt for a encounter with Mr. Sadamoto continues! :-D

Wait.... Wait. Wait. Wait. KOZAKI WAS AT JAPAN EXPO? JAPAN EXPO IN SAN JOSE? AND I WAS STUCK WORKING?

Worst thing is; I contemplated calling out since I needed to meet Iwadare with a fiery passion, but this has me about 3 seconds from committing seppuku. I had no idea he was there. I think I need to go for a run.

E: AND A SPACE DANDY EXHIBTION?

wow.
Yeah, an exhibition of animation sheets from the actual production of the series that was held at their BONES booth for Japan Expo USA:

A extremely brilliant animator that doesn't animates anymore.

How do you guys organize your Blurays? I want to keep shows together but sometimes they are mixed. For example for K-On, I have S1 of DVD but have S2 and the movie on Bluray.

It's 20000% stupid to put a mecanism to prevent violence yet have nothing in case something goes wrong.
Well at least this was a lesson for everyone.

Oh and mamoru disapeared ! Please "don't joke when someone is weak minded" is probably the answer everyone was seeking...
