I have to believe that even in Japan, men liking lesbians is just a thing that's seen as normal. :p

Are the gimmick male groups the equivalent of Justin Bieber?

Men are all dirty perverts after all.

They're all boybands. In Japan, the boyband boom never died down. Alot of them are still segregated into groups but they mostly just do their own thing.

What's surprising is the runaway Anohana train coming in at 5th place on its 3rd week and in an upset, Chuuni movie comes in 9th over Code Geass: Akito at 10th. Chuuni opened in 27 theaters while Geass opened in 36 so its a disappointment for Geass.
Pulling this out to focus on Anohana, per an update from something to give its performance some context so far:
Box Office Gross said:
¥*,846,000,000 - Kidou Senshi Gundam 00 The Movie: Awakening of the Trailblazer [2010/09/18]
¥*,830,000,000 - Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu [2010/02/06]
¥*,700,000,000 - Macross Frontier: Sayonara no Tsubasa [2011/02/26]
¥*,645,000,000 - Macross Frontier: Itsuwari no Utahime [2009/11/29]
¥*,611,374,798 - Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai Movie [2013/08/31]
¥*,590,000,000 - Hagane no Renkinjutsushi: Milos no Seinaru Hoshi [2011/07/02]
It should probably pass the two Macross movies' lifetime totals and even has a small chance at surpassing Haruhi. To be fair, the Anohana movie is currently in many more theaters than Haruhi was at this point in its theater run, but it would still be impressive.

(For what it's worth, above Gundam 00 on the late-night series box office list, it takes a big jump up to K-On, and then above that are the three Eva movies at the very top, of course. And yes, the lists and rankings likely aren't perfect because you can't get perfect data, but it's as close as you can get, I suppose.)

For people criticizing WataMote, I'm curious if you've been through the issues she has? I have my whole life, and I feel like it's been pretty spot on with the portrayal.

From what I seen, generic reverse harem are much better than generic harem that out from eroge and LN.. and even with bishounen spam, the girls in that kind of show are cuter lol

I can't say I agree with that. The quality bar is about just as low in both cases.

A version of the list I've seen has K-On at the very top with Eva not included since its mainstream, I guess(?) or that its not really late night since it aired mainly 630 PM during its run. I think Anohana has a definite shot at Haruhi since its getting good word of mouth and decent mainstream exposure but there's absolutely no chance it can take down K-On or Eva.

That's something I believe I mentioned in the Watamote OT. If you have depression and/or social anxiety the show will feel familiar to you on some level.

I didn't see that many complaints regarding suspension of disbelief. Most of the time it is about how hard to watch it is. In a way it is one heck of a complement. Nothing else this season comes to Watamote in terms of depressing, despite 2 series about parents being eaten.

I imagine part of it has to do with the Charlie Brown thing where every time Tomoko tries to make her life better, someone pulls the football away and she takes a massive whiff.

I guess I don't think I know any women of adult age who like any of the boy idols around nowadays. Although, other than Beiber, I don't even know who else is around of "that age".

Just think of 50 shades of grey or twilight or whatever is popular with 40 year old women now that features young attractive males.

One Direction?
Google says they're British, so I'm even less likely to know who they are!

I dunno, 50 Shades of Grey is like the equivalent of Maxim or Playboy. Depending on the work place, you can pretty much leave those lying around and maybe even slap the full page spreads on the wall. I'm not sure what counts as socially ostracizing though, to the point where you'd do your best to hide it in order to avoid being judged. lol

50 Shades is like having a porn mag on your desk if you're male. For the women, its this weird thing, for dudes you're a sick pervert.

I dunno, I think the gravure magazine is the same "social equivalent" of a romance novel. It's not like taking out your comiket haul and flipping through the pages featuring anime characters doing various things to each other.

Fate/something something star Illya 5

A pretty good action episode. I'm really liking this show even though i can't remember its fucking name. Unfortunately, I was only able to count two upskirt shots and no panties. =[

The fight itself was very interesting. Being new, the two girls obviously had to
resort to giving the magical girl powers back to Rin and the hot blonde.
So far this probably the second best fight in the show. The first being the fight with Caster just an episode ago.

My only qualm is that they aren't giving us enough fanservice scenes which I assume is why they made the show. So hopefully there are more bath scenes soon. <3

And that's my problem. I can't stand watching me do things, why would I stand watching someone else do the same things?

For me at least it's interesting to see an anime character that has something in common with me. I root for her each episode in hope that she can do something that I have been unable to do. The latest episode gives me hope that she'll be able to do just that next week.

It's a sensitive subject but I think it can be healthy to humour yourself about your situation sometimes. Perhaps that's why the comedy doesn't offend me.

I really can't give you a reason to watch the show. If you don't sympathize with the main character or dislike what she does to the point of hatred then I'm not sure there's much you can do about it.

Sorry for not being more helpful.

Maturity, bitches.
2 series about parents being eaten.
The lengths they go to to try and reason why they can't be bothered with drawing the parents.

Though it is a bit more believable than claiming they left a teenager on their own while they went off on the world's longest holiday.

EDIT: I just realised Kurita is sporting a slightly different avatar.

Well when you watch anime, you're always in for disappointment. I recently relearned this lesson after finishing up oreimo. That was a few hours of my life wasted on an unsatisfying piece of crap.

I'm sorry. Can you elaborate on that?

I felt like Oreimo ended just fine.

Kami-sama no inai nichiyoubi 4-11

This series is a solid one. I wasn't hooked on it from the first two eps but from the ending of the third one on-wards had me on a marathon of the entire series. There is only 1 more episode and an OVA later in Feb for the this, but I certainly hope it was popular enough to get a second season. There is a lot of stories that can be had, but I hope there is a bigger overall story to come as well, as this season has been broken into a a few mini-stories.

Give this series a watch until episode 3 and decide whether you want to watch the rest, I suppose.

He said women or adult age.....one direction fans are pretty much teenagers.

Favourite Japanese boy band: Uverworld and then AKFG. Maybe Home Made Kazoku too.

We probably need to differentiate between bands made up of men and "boy bands" :p

I mean, by that definition Southern All Stars or Mr Children are counted as boy bands.

Well i'm glad they aren't wasting time withsubplots with no interest.and getting to the point .

I've been vaguely bemused by your positivity at this series in general, but this line in particular made me wonder if you aren't just being satirical on purpose.

Well. It seems like the redesign of Hummingbird is slowly appearing, the first bit being the new forums.

A step up from the godawful and almost unusable original, but its still pretty bad. Too busy and too colourful for my taste. But then I'm an old fashioned kind of guy.

Huh? What did I say? Did I screw up again? :(
Hello animu thread... Tenchi Muyo

On a scale of 1 to 10, what are the chances of a new iteration to this series? Will it never happen again?

Hell, I'll take branch stories like "Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari" (which I loved)

Oh god I miss the 90s ;_;

Don't know. But I feel like Tenchi's best stories ended after the 2nd OVA series and Universe. Did not like OVA 3 at all and GXP...

Oh, that may explain why is was extra slow yesterday and kept going down. Typically this was when I finally bothered to fill in as much of my anime viewing history as possible. Think I got most of it and it came up as just over a month in total which I'm sure is small potatoes compared to most of you.

Just had a quick gander at the new forums. Looks like the comment section of a blog. Everything is so condensed. At least they're clean so no eye distractions like sigs.

I loved OVA3 (I'd love anything to hear more music from the series) though I admit the story was a bit of a mess, I love how the pieces of the story and characters fill in the universe. This is actually what I found to enjoy about GXP (though they could have spent more on production I must admit). I thought it was genuinely funny and had fun with itself. I really was hoping Isekai would set up a formula over various series of what Lady Tokemi was doing in other dimensions and somehow weave them together in a new OVA.

EDIT: What did you think of Isekai by the way?

Do people still use those?!

I'd actually like to see a new one. I started with Geminar, which I did rather like. Then tried GXP which I kind of liked, in part because of the old fashioned vibe I really got off it. Just haven't tried to go back further.

Yeah. I don't mind sigs, just as long as they are text only and brief (like 3 or 4 lines at most).

Oh, I know. 36 screens is a laughably small number. Alot of these "movies" are glorified OVA that got theatrical releases for the advertising and/or free money. That doesn't remove the fact that Chuuni did better than Geass in less theaters though :p

True, but Chuuni is also newer, has another season coming right up and involves all the original cast. It's a pretty topical thing.

I'd be more surprised If it didn't do better than the side story of a property which hasn't been on weekly TV in 5 years.

I think if you are going backwards then watch the OVA1 to 3 before watching approaching any other. Tenchi in Tokyo is the hardest to watch for me as it was an alternate take... though there's a lot of that in the Tenchi series. If you can handle 90's style anime then also look into "Dual: Parallel Trouble Adventures" as it has cameos from the GXP characters (correctly said, it would be GXP has cameos from Dual and the OVA). It also has that unique character design astatic that I've come to really love about the series. The hilarious thing is that my memories of duel are all jumbled up with "El Hazard" series and that could be because it's almost been 20 years :)

Strike Witches 2 07
Right off the butt, what was cool was how well they mirrored the 7th episode on season one to the extent I actually thought I was watching the wrong episode. The first 10 seconds were practically identical, then following up with the same kinda of "the witches are sleeping" shots. That was neat.
Then of course the episode reveals its true cards. Sadly unlike episode 07 of the first season though the story was not based on a historical reference that I can think of, but that didn't make it any less fun. After all
I'd be extremely impressed if someone managed to get a Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords with the firmness of their [REDACTED]
There was some censor inconsistencies though. Probably outsourced the episode to J.J. Abrams.
An extreme amount of [REDACTED] living up to its episode 07 pedigree. I wish I could post GIFs.

I'm a giant introvert and I don't see too many similarities as far as socializing. One issue is typically the case that when you're in a social setting and you're not talking much, you're hyper aware of conversations around you and constantly ID people. Tomoko's awareness seems like it typically catches her off guard when approached which would seemingly make more sense if she wasn't already spacing off about her own loneliness to begin with.

The bigger distinction is that even socially awkward people have an ability to get conversations going as long as they're not the ones to have to initiate them by virtue of things to say being bottled up. If her paralysis was consistent between more people she were in contact with, it'd make sense. The show, however, seems to arbitrarily pick and choose from a narrative standpoint who she can effectively talk to and the giant difference seems to exist if only to play up the low end of the spectrum for laughs when she's obviously more capable of getting basic sentences out.

I just think that she's going to eventually meat a really evil person and try to kill herself and it makes me sad. So far, she's been lucky that almost all her interactions have been with indifferent people. That little salvation of only having to deal with people like that saves her but is also what's hearting her. People in her life have given up and want little to do with her. So she has a shit attitude and is can be mean at times but she's also a teenager. People are too grossed out and weirder out to want to reach out to help which creates a vicious cycle of her being more and more isolated. Her perspective is the world is her attempts to reach out with the tools and knowledge she has ends painfully and she retreats into that isolation to find a place to hide and recover. She has no idea that pain is what will help her grow because no one is willing to nurture her. I try to laugh whenever I can watching that series but it leaves me with such a sick feeling of empathy during its quite moments that its become one of the most difficult series for me to watch; period.
