Some of them look the part. But I'd say it's a running Dezaki thing. Oniisama e is pretty weird in that way too, Aim for the Ace suffers much less from this.
I'd also think it's meant to drive a point in Aim for the Ace's case.

My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU 13 (End)

Hilarious final episode focusing on all of the strengths of the series and even threw in nice Hikki and Hayama moments. Probably only one not on Hikki and Saika I shall miss it. Overall 9/10. Would buy.

I guess thats also the final episode of anime from this season that were one cour(?) or so that ended. If I ranked the top five, would be.

Kino's Journey 11

This episode's themes actually drew parallels with a lot of stuff from Kino's previous encounters.

Spoiler

The way the people in the wise man's country sought to remove one's consciousness so that they may be upstanding citizens is eerily similar to Kino's home country which essentially lobotomized adults and brainwashed them into joining the workforce. It's as if humanity has this drive to eliminate negative facets of themselves. We see in the killer who seeks atonement, or these countries investing in the science and medical fields. People purged of these negative facets are revered, like the old man who was deemed "wise," when in actuality he suffered from apathy. He and his caretaker are similar to the mechanical dolls; devoid of emotions and longing for purpose. It's this, coupled with a sense of personal agency which exemplifies humanity here, with Kino asserting that her journey is a conscious one.

Another great episode in a show that really doesnt know how to be anything but great.
Two to go! Think you will really enjoy them of course. The smartest anime related decision I have ever made was to pick up that first DVD volume, intrigued by the traveler and the motorcycle on the cover and the little blurb on the back. WHAT A SHOW.

[Digimon Tamers] 01 (Rewatch)

I appreciate the fact that they didn't go straight for showing all dem digital monsters kicking the shit out of each other. Well, that's a lie, since the episode starts with such a scene, but we don't have the main character meeting up with his "partner" until the very end. Most of this episode is decidated to world-building, which is a very different approach from the first two Digimon seasons where they just threw everyone straight for the crazy action. It creates a very pervasive mood of "something is wrong in this place" which I do enjoy.

The episode was boring otherwise, and Takato being a total wimp/nerd can get annoying (although not as annoying as Calumon's speech impediment). I remember this show having a very slow start.

Oh yeah there's also a token waifu with a cute character trait. Wan wan!
