Senki Zesshou Symphogear: END

Well, I'm not entirely sure what to say about this show. It isn't too bad, to be honest. However, it didn't quite grab my attention enough to make me want to watch the sequels.

As some people noticed from the screenshots I've posted before, yes, it's quite a bit darker than I expected. However, part of the issue with the show is that it seems to fluctuate between that and lighter and softer. It feels like the show doesn't quite know what direction to go, so it doesn't fully commit.

The action in the series, however, is plenty good. There aren't really any moments where it feels like the budget has been pulled from under them. As for sound, the music in the series is great. It'd be one thing I'd definitely recommend for someone interested in a nice soundtrack.

The first half of this episode made me ponder if I should read a novel or continue watching LoGH instead. There was too much ecchi for one man to handle.

NGNL has its own LN so you can go read that.

In other news, I am now convinced that if Non Non Biyori was localised to the middle east and people watched it, the Israel-Palestine conflict will end.

Yes, it is that fuwa fuwa

I honestly didnt find NGNL too ecchi but maybe Im just desensitized to it.

A few years ago, I would have been desensitized to it too. However nowadays my anime watching has been tilted to a lot less ecchi. This is the ecchiest thing I have seen since Queen's Blade.

I can't continue to add *more* novels in my literature backlog. I have a mountain of real books and comics/manga to get through!

while it has some ecchi stuff, it really wasn't all that ecchi, I mean I complained about most of the
bathing scenes (mostly I was complaining about tentacle shampoo)
with people I was watching it with but in general it wasn't to bad and I have a pretty low tolerance for ecchi in general. (of course that doesn't mean I don't watch some ecchi stuff... I mean early today I posted about date a live, but in general if a show has ecchi in it I drop it until it has a dub so i can do other things while watching it. I watched no game no life on a weekly basis and enjoyed it quite a bit)

I want to say a little of both. I definitely can see it being a show you can't watch with people.

But it's sort of average compared to a lot of other stuff.
I watched it with my wife, her female friend and her boyfriend and with my gay friend all in the same room and we all enjoyed it :p

Fair enough lol. I really don't think it's all that bad though. Any ecchi stuff isn't the super awkward kind too.

nah, no game no life was lite enough on the ecchi that I wouldn't even consider it an ecchi show, just a show with some ecchi scenes like haruhi suzumiya.

I do need to sit down and read novel 4 and part of 5 (and more when it gets translated) though as I am curious where the story will go and the bit of 3 i read matched up pretty well with the anime (aside from the end) so I won't have to wait for a second season that may or may not come :/

Oh I just can't wait till Prison School airs.

my curiosity got the better of me and I ended up reading prison school (still don't know why I am caught up as I didn't really enjoy it but for some reason I couldn't stop reading ><:) but yeah... that one will likely be rather lewd and very censored lol.

Argevollen 6

All that build up then the actual battle happens off screen hahahahha. The battles are not any good, what's left is pretty much slice of life anime now. Walking in the jungle that's all there is, their only attempt at creating some suspense ended up not having any impact whatsoever.
bridge scene, they could do a lot more with it but nah she just stand up and nothing what?

Maybe the story with the captain goes somewhere, this is too laid back for a seemingly serious war story, *looks at the preview* yeah.

So the Argevollen shuts down making Jamie come to the front line to turn it on. Understandably she isn't exactly mentally prepared for this causing her to not go any further until she stares death in the face.
Although ironically she would've died if she was mentally prepared.
With the Argevollen now fixed, enemy base was quickly taken over. Now, Jamie seemingly understands her place in all this a bit more (and hopefully her bonus was incentive enough otherwise).

Overall, the episode, like the entire show itself has been, was okay... It doesn't really do anything to standout much and was just an episode to develop Jamie a bit more.

I'm more surprised the escort guy was completely fine. He was the one caught up in it more than she was

Is Psycho Pass good? Got added on Netflix.

it's one cliche on top of another for the genre, but typically with interesting resolutions/characters resulting in an overall solid series and one of the best sci-fi series since ghost in the shell stand alone complex second gig.

No, please, don't say that. You make Ergo Proxy sad.

I tossed Hunter X Hunter onto my Netflix queue (I am on episode 31, and while I like it, I still don't see the massive hype behind it). I'll give Psycho-Pass another shot. I watched it when it aired, but I got distracted along the way. I love Gen's work, so I might as well plow through it.

I hated Ergo proxy. Could only go up to ep 4. It was to dark and could barley see everything and just boring as hell, in my opinion.

I'd definitely recommend going further than that. But then again I'd also say it gets too experimental and unsatisfying towards the end... so yeh.

well I did say one of the best, as there are a few good ones..
I suppose I could change my statement to Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society as that would no longer allow ergo proxy to be included since it came out before solid state society though :p

Note: I enjoyed psycho pass more than ergo proxy though.

HxH is overhyped while it does do some things better than naruto/bleach/dbz most things aren't really done any better. plus it has a really slow start. The stuff you are on and for the next 30 or so episodes were quite enjoyable though. I am not a huge fan of the really long arc after that though as it's just to drawn out and slow. I am waiting until the current arc finishes (and the anime finishes) to watch it so I don't have thoughts on the current stuff in HxH

for a shorter version. HxH is a decent shonen show but it's not going to win over anyone who isn't a fan of the shonen genre.
yu yu hakusho is the better series.

Zankyou no Terror - 05

Not sure what to think about this. I sure as hell do NOT like seeing this amount of 'hacking' going on. Surely rolled my eyes when Nr9 and 12 got counter-hacked and what not.

Oh also Nr9 and 12 are apparently indeed intending to spare any civilians, which does seem stupid, considering how destructive they are. The building they destroyed in episode 1..., even if everyone does evacuate the building in a timely manner it's hard to believe that debris etc. don't cause any kills. At least it seems highly likely that people end up dying.

edit:
Am also not really fond of them still teasing their tragic backstory instead of actually telling us what went on back then.

As someone for whom Hunter also wasn't all it was purported to be, it gets better from episode 34. That and the next episode are a good closure to the Arena arc and kind of to the Hunter exam arc too.

One of my favorite episodes of this series. The Mascot Character Olympics were pretty exciting. They had everything, fundoshis, more of Yukarin and Nanyako being cute with each other, and several arrangements of the Uogokoro Song used for the BGM, and plenty of great showings from Yui/Uogokoro himself. It was so much fun, and the puns behind some of the mascot concepts were groan-worthy as all get out. I mean, Date Megane, come on now.

Movie isn't a series, though. Anyway, I was just nitpicking. There isn't any other show besides Ergo Proxy that I even could call for this. Anime is seriously lacking in medieval fantasy and sci-fi that isn't space or mecha.

I enjoyed both shows, but Psycho-Pass got sloppy in the end, in my eyes.

I've mentioned before in this thread that I think Busy Doing Nothing is a particularly excellent episode that may be a bit "experimental", but it really does rely on watching the preceding parts of the series. I think the bookshop ep and the quiz show ep are probably the nadirs, but I remember thinking the Disney knockoff ep was very good - Pino is (or at least was, it has been many years now...) one of the few "anime children" I found likeable.

I wish shows lingered in the mind in more detail for longer. If asked to recall specifics of Ergo Proxy I couldn't really say much other than "it was kind of disappointing in some ways but I liked it more than most people seem to".

I'm a major fan of the shonen genre though. I adore One Piece, I enjoyed Naruto (loved part 1), and I was a fan of Bleach throughout the Soul Society arc.

I'm glad to hear it improves after 34. I realize shonen can take a while to open up, i.e. Arlong Park is when One Piece shows its potential.

Poor Lisa, she overhears that she's going to get kicked out and decides to prove herself by making dinner. But unfortunately she messed up "a little."

Lisa's failures aside, this episode was great too. Although if they really didn't want to hurt anybody, they should've just put it elsewhere like the very back car or just somehow out of the way. That's how all the other bombs worked (barring the first since they had to evacuate the building to pull it off).

It looks like their past has come back to haunt them. Either they're going to have to seriously step it up, or they'll begin to play into her hands. She's already "found" them as it is, so that apartment is no longer safe.

I like HxH but Yu Yu Hakusho up until the dark tournament is still something I'd rank higher. For that matter I'd also rank Fullmetal alchemist higher.

Unrelated but there's a trope in anime with battles that is really starting to bother me: whenever you introduce a group of baddies who are assassins/hunting/opposing the main group. It's happened too many times and it really bothers me now if their only purpose is to add more sweet battles. Especially if they have one of those shots of the whole group standing from a building looking down upon the city, a couple of them doing that "I lick knives" face and maybe a battle bra female.

You haven't reached the good parts yet and then you'll find out why. As for massive hype I really don't see it. Like it's not as popular as One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach. It has hype but it ain't massive. Though it deserves to be acknowledged considering it's not as predictable and it's strategic for many of it's battles compared to many other Shonen. And it also ain't as lighthearted as it seems especially in the Chimera Arc.

Meh. I really dug each episode, but this one simply felt...average I want to say. Maybe I don't care for Shiro as much, but she isn't as fun to watch as Sora. At least he's back in the picture and the major battle can begin soon! I have a fairly decent idea where this season shall end, but I'll probably be wrong on that front.

The hype is pretty massive on Gaf, especially when people ask for new anime. Plus it constantly ranks on the AOTY threads. But I'm happy the good parts are still ahead of me. It's a pretty decent show thus far though.

Yeah that episode was really great. Didn't like the others much. The Disney one may have been decent by itself, can't really remember either though, but at that point I was just really, really hoping they'd progress normally already.

And I agree, Pino was great. In fact, I really liked most of the characters, the main cast especially. The issue is just that I then rarely got to see them in a 'normal' way again after growing on me so much.
