And without further ado, here are the impressions for episode 1!

Secret Anime - 1

All right, this is a show that I've been meaning to watch for myself for a while. And I have to say, this is a pretty interesting start. Pretty okay pacing for the first episode. And it looks like the plot will definitely be going places soon.

That's all for now! Good luck!

Here's a search on AniDB for 12 episode anime between 1990 and 2013. For anyone wanting to figure it out.

Your MAL is a sham.

It's not like I can remember every anime that I've watched when making that thing! Just goes to show how much of an impression School Days left on me. It was nuts, but the sooner I forgot about it and moved on the better.

But I might as well update it with that now.

Saying that people can have different opinions on shows is self-evident. Telling us MAL rankings is pointless because that's not meaningful data, it's just a number. It doesn't tell anybody anything about a show.

You should want to defend your opinions on a show you liked because critiques and arguments are interesting and force each side to consider new things they hadn't thought of before. What's the point of a thread where everyone just mindlessly praises what they like and never interacts with critical opinions? People can go to animesuki for that.

On the MAL front I am not going to bother trying to explain why it's meaningful data and more than just a number, you feel it isn't that is fine (and nothing I say will change that :p)

and I have defended my opinions before (see eva a while back) but I see no reason to try to defend a show that most people in here seem to strongly dislike, a number of which dropped the show after the first episode. I did defend a bit of it previous (like how I enjoyed the second half quite a bit more and that in general once it gets out of the school it's way better thus the first few eps aren't great) but I could write out a super detailed post explaining why the show is worth watching and the odds that I get anyone that dropped it after the first episode or in general said it was terrible to actually give a second chance are close to zero... so why waste the time and effort and write something that people in this thread in general seem to have no interest in hearing :p

For the short version... I will discuss and defend direct complaints, but I feel it's a lost cause to try to explain to someone who thinks a show is terrible how it isn't terrible :p.

Watched the first three episodes of Gurren Lagann.

Ehhh...the intro was a bit weak. Not a huge fan of the character designs either. Kamina is pretty good. "Believe in me believing in you" was pretty amusing.

Simon is okay I guess, strikes me as a generic apprehensive risk averse protagonist. I don't like Yoko's design either, seems pretty stupid to me.

The story didn't really grab me either, but it's got better in episode 3 at least.

You've started one of the greatest shows of all time.

Gurren Lagann is a show that as a whole I really enjoy, but for me it really took a while for it to get going (somewhere between 3 and 6 episodes I can't remember how many) once it got going though I had a blast all the way until the end (aside from like a single episode that I wasn't a fan of) It's likely because the first few eps are actually kind of grounded... (at least for GL) and after that it just goes over the top with everything and is fun to just sit back and enjoy the ride (and not think too much :p)

Subete no aware
Jinsei 07

An entire episode about Yuki learning to be a local hero and channeling his inner Kamen Rider. Only instead of fighting EEEs, he fights HHH, which has nothing to do with wrestling and everything to do with
safely disposing of porn.
This show is developing things I never expected, like an ongoing story. And a sense of humor that I can get behind. Ikumi is a girl after my own heart. The Kei Grant jokes were fantastic, and I've never even played the Yakuza games.
Is it still pointlessly fanservicey? lol

hmm I don't feel I can agree lol
my order would be (from the shows listed in the top 10 because I am not going to do the whole thing lol)
"Gekkan Shojo Nozaki-kun" (the only show I make sure to watch the day it airs)
"Barakamon" (I'd like to rate this lower... but for some reason just can't)
"Akame ga KILL!" (I never minded this one but the last few eps have stepped it up)
"Sword Art Online II" (Wish it wasn't going so slow but still enjoying it)
"Terror in Resonance" (despite my dislike for the character 5 in general and feeling she ruined the show, still annoyed me less then the events of episode... I think it was 5 of aldnoah)
"Aldnoah Zero" (It's better since I gave up on it, but still not a great show to me)
"Tokyo Ghoul" (If I hadn't read the manga along with this one I likely would have dropped it due to the changes in character motivations)

No data for the following shows
"Yama no Susume (Encouragement Of Climb) Second Season"
"Hanayamata"

would replace with love stage (slotted above terror, decent comedy fun, plot isn't great but overall amusing)
and ao haru ride (slotted below tokyo ghoul, barely makes my top ten... the story is just ok, and the cast is just ok... I was hoping for more but it's at least still watchable)

The first episode of Dandy S2 really turned me off. Like, it was not enjoyable at all save for one or two jokes. Has the rest been good?

Chobits Ep. 17

In this episode, Chi learns how to be a better waifu. Because [plot device] Chi uses her hard earned money to make her man a meal, and fails spectacularly at her first attempt because it's cute/funny when girls fail at cooking in anime. Luckily, the landlord (aka secondary harem member #1) teaches Chi how to cook. Chi and Hideki relationship++;

I really liked that episode, but the general consensus is "Yes"

You should check out the latest (21) at the least, and maybe the one before that.

I thought that episode was alright, but many other episodes this season have topped it, particularly 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8.

At the very least, watch Yuasa's episode. I've enjoyed the season for the most part, but humor is one of those things that varies from person to person, and I did enjoy the first episode of the season, so your mileage may vary.

I wasn't into that episode at all outside of the animation, but there are some cool episodes later on. The ones that rely more on their sense of humor still fall flat, but fortunately the majority of Space Dandy's second season has just been weird aliens and planets that showcase a lot of the unique talent behind the project.

so I think I might have asked this before but I can't remember what people said lol
If I in general enjoyed the personality of the characters in space dandy (In fact I really like dandy as a character) but in general disliked the story/humor in the first 6 episodes (I didn't mind the race one and I actively disliked the booby monster the rest I wasn't actively disliking but more in general not feeling anything from and disliking parts of them... I think the zombie episode just put me to sleep and that I think is episode 6 and where I finally dropped the show) is there any reason for me to try watching more of it?

Also do they ever start going into more details about why the one guy is chasing him and what not... or does it just continue to be flavor of the week with occasional small bits of info here and there?

You can probably find some merit in one or two episodes of Season 2 if you just like neat animation or scenery porn.
As for characters, the show isn't really about that, but you should certainly watch episode 21.

As for the Dr. Gel thing, no. That'd be a last episode thing if it ever comes up.

the zombie episode is one of the best episodes of the show so......maybe not. it remains very episodic, though people seem to agree the first season hits its stride around episode 7 or 9.

It's an anthology series, so no.
Ah I see... I was hoping it was a bit more like bebop where most of the episodes were stand alone but we would get serious plot eps from time to time.

to be fair I am really sick of zombies in general, and a zombie episode is typically a huge turn off to me anymore. I can still enjoy them from time to time (such as the Community episode... which aired years ago but even then I consider that ep one of the weakest of that season) but in general I dislike them (it's not like I was ever a zombie fan in general, I dislike them am sick of them now though due to their popularity... there are so many better and more interesting monsters out there :/)

The race episode was episode 7, and the zombie episode was episode 4.

I think every episode in season 1 from 9 (plant planet) onwards, with the possible exception of the library world one, is excellent and worthy of your time.

eh. i think the whole "world of zombies" thing was a pretty inspired direction to take it

I loved the library episode.

Reminder that Toh Enjoe is writing episode 24 this season.

A lot of people thought Space Dandy was hit or miss during the first half of season 1, but I think most people can agree that the show really found it's stride during the second half. Season 2 has hit it out of the park outside of maybe one dud episode, and even that one I didn't dislike.

For the most part this is how I've felt about the show.

hmmmm *scratches head* I got farther along then I thought I did... though I could have sworn I dropp *has a eurka moment* ah wait that does seem right. I was watching it with a friend who has very similar tastes to me and I asked him if I missed anything with the zombie episode he said no so I never went back and rewatched it... that's why I can't remember it very well >.>;

hmmm but the race episode being episode 7.... if I didn't mind that one why did I suddenly drop the show... I recall actively disliking the last bit I saw and my friend and I agreeing to drop the show (we were watching it together over the internet and have since just started watching baby steps, ace of diamond, and volleyball instead)

gah.... I need to see if my brain works better when it's not under the effects of a cold... and I am not light headed... and congested.... something about other dimension ramen that was ok.... at the very least I recall hating the booby monster episode because not only was it stupid I had the entire plot and the jokes listed off with in the first 5 minutes aside from the ending.... assuming that is the ending where
they all died/exploded
as I didn't see that as an ending coming... yeah.. I am going to stop trying to access my memories now... head starting to hurt ><:

maybe I will try continuing from apparently episode 8 lol. I'm kind of in the mood for a cheesy main character right now. or hmmm I could alternatively go watch the new episode of doctor who (though I don't know what type of doctor the new guy is :./ he looks like he would be more serious)

The first half of Space Dandy S1 had more misses than hits. The second half of S1 was pretty consistent while not really mindblowing. The first half of S2 which has aired so far has been a ton of really impressive hits with only one episode so far which I feel was a total dud.

For the short version... I will discuss and defend direct complaints, but I feel it's a lost cause to try to explain to someone who thinks a show is terrible how it isn't terrible :p.

For reference watch my responses to people's reactions to episodes, or my own reactions, I openly discuss those.

An argument like that isn't necessarily for the benefit of people who have already dismissed the show, or already watched it and disliked it. They might perceive something about the show that they didn't before which tempers their antipathy, but when you discuss on a message board, your words are being read by lots of other people who aren't directly engaged in the conversation. So those discussions can make a difference.

Everyone has specific tastes, so a number from some site on its own isn't going to meaningfully tell you about how good a show is for you, no matter how that number was arrived at. What matters is the why. What about the show appealed to you? What does it do better than other shows? What makes it stand out? If I'm making choices about what shows to pick up, I need to understand those things before I make a decision.

So while this might be strictly theoretical in this instance (nothing about Gosick's premise appeals to me in any way), a post supporting the show might convince another poster, even if it doesn't change Branduil's mind. I know I'd never have picked up Log Horizon, No Game No Life, or Blood-C, for example, without seeing some sort of back-and-forth between those who enjoyed the shows and those who hated them that caught my attention and convinced me to give them a shot.

Sentai definitely had a lot of problems with video quality before. Didn't they release Moretsu Pirates and Penguindrum in 1080i for some reason? Then there's been other QC problems like the mono audio on the Japanese track on that Kids on the Slope episode. Thankfully the titles I've gotten from them lately seem to be fine. It's still pretty clear that everything's being rushed out though (those menus, for instance).

Yeah they messed up Penguin drum for sure.

to be fair if someone directly asked me that question I likely would respond, I am just not going to take that time and effort when no one seems to be asking (plus as I have said so earlier so far I haven't found anyone with even remotely similar tastes to me so far which make it hard to believe anyone will care :p)

beyond that I honestly can't remember a lot about gosick right now... (and in general I am not passionate about the show, I enjoyed it, but not so much that I have ever tried getting anyone to watch it...) my brain is kind of mushy swiss cheese right now and the best I can do is try to sound coherent in my thoughts lol. I seem to have mostly killed it with my earlier thoughts about MAL and space dandy though.... as I can't even remotely recall why I hated blood c right now...... I do believe like my sense of smell and sense of taste... I am going to have to call it on my memories >.<;

on the plus side I can confirm I have seen episode 7 of space dandy and indeed I am not hating it like i thought. (I tend to remember feelings a lot better than thoughts when I am like this...)
