Super Mario 3D World for Wii U

I think this looked absolutely sublime. The ultimate Mario game that combines Galaxy, 3D Land, NSMB and even Super Mario Bros USA.

Of course this amazing looking game will get hated, it tends to happen with the best Mario games. I'm hyped as HECK, I loved 3D Land and enjoyed it a TON more than both Galaxies.

I liked it, but I was expecting a hook, like all other 3D Mario games.

Disappointing in that regard, but it did look good.

Can't believe after waiting so long for 3D HD Mario we get some uprezzed 3DS concept. Did Nintendo fire their art team? It's so boring and flat looking.

Their follow up to the two Mario Galaxy masterpieces is a sequel to 3D Land?

God. Fucking. Dammit. I 100%'ed 3D Land and is really was a bore.

I'm sort of shocked at the negative reaction this is getting... looks great to me. 3D land was excellent, and this looks to expand on that a bunch, and is great looking as well.

I really loved 3D land, but I accepted the way it was because it was a portable game. I was hoping for some epic open world/64 Mario game with 3D that was like Galaxy.

Augh. I despised 3D land, it was the worst 3D mario in my opinion. The fact that the team is making the next mainline entry based on it disappoints me.

It still looks like it will be great for people who enjoyed 3D land, and it definitely seems more capable but I prefer having that freedom of camera control like in 64 or some instances were acceptable in galaxy because they did some creative things with it.

Atleast my brother will be happy, because out of the two of us hes the one who actually enjoyed 3D land. Definitely not picking up a WiiU when this game launches now. Probably going to wait it out even longer, which sucks. This was the game that I wanted to pick up with a WiiU out of hype.

I loved 3D Land, but that's a pretty underwhelming trailer compared to the Galaxy ones. I almost wonder if this is a different team given the lack of orchestrated music.

I was really hoping for a Galaxy game. I'm a HUGE Mario fan and this is a bit disappointing. Maybe next year? 3D land was WAY too easy on the 3DS, can't they make a challenging Mario game?

Looks awesome.

The Kotaku article on Nintendo playing it safe, yet playing it fun is right, though. This is a safe game, but I'm pretty confident that it's going to be my favorite 3D Mario ever.

Also...

Galaxy -> Galaxy 2 = "EAD Tokyo are awesome!"
3D Land -> 3D World = "EAD Tokyo have no more ideas!"

I don't understand that... Especially since a lot of people like 3D Land MORE than Galaxy.

Soooo disappointed.

It looks like NSMB just in 3D now.

What happened to the imagination seen in Galaxy? It's all been sucked down the drain hole known as the Wii fucking U.

Looking back at what Super Mario 64 did for gaming, and the critical acclaim that Galaxy received due to the originality and imagination, this just looks hastily knocked up.

This is a massive disappointment. There’s almost nothing left of the freedom and precision controls introduced so perfectly in Mario 64. Now it’s an essentially 2d, slow playing, unimaginative, lazy mess, with horrible graphics and offensive music. If this is what they came up with, why wasn’t this ready last year? It’s like they put zero effort into what was once their flagship franchise.

I’m just baffled that Nintendo thinks they need to dumb down the 3D Mario series, or shoehorn in a worthless, carbon-copy multiplayer mode lifted straight out of New Super Mario Bros. There’s none of the imagination so brilliantly on display in the two Galaxy games here. Awful

How do you shit the bed this hard? This was their most important E3 in years, they HAD to have an incredible 3D Mario, and this is the result? Either they're playing extra safe due to the floundering of the Wii U or their teams have simply lost ambition and creativity. What a joke.

This right here.

This hurts. I was really hoping for something new and imaginative like the Galaxy games were, but this looks like a prettier version of 3D Land with multiplayer. It's a shame, since Mario Kart looks incredible and what this should have looked like. :/

So disappointing visually. Looks like someone barfed NSMB's art style onto Super Mario Galaxy's look. Technically it reminds me of Pikmin. Wii-esque assets with nice depth of field and lighting (honestly that covers a lot of the internally developed Wii U games).

I never expected Galaxy 3, Japan hated the series to guts. They need to find something between and have a very limited time, so 3D Wörld is perfect. I'm OK as long as I get to play them in 2013.

Was hoping for something grander in scope. But rewatching the footage in better quality this actually looks great. Lots of fun platforming and action going on. Looks charming to say the least. Will defintely buy!

Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are some of the best video games ever made.

And sometimes I hate their existence because there's now a large number of people who flip out every time a new Mario game is revealed and it's not Super Mario Galaxy 3.

As for this game, it looks pretty interesting; it's a mistake to assume it's going to be 3D Land blown up on the big screen. The levels shown in the trailer already look much denser and full of mechanics than most of the stages in 3D Land.

Insulting the graphics is also dishonest. The screens posted up-thread look fine, and what the 3D Mario art style would/should look like when translated onto more powerful hardware. I can appreciate complaints about it not being something utterly new and unexpected however, in the same way Mario Galaxy was rather far out there when it was first revealed.

Pure Laziness.

Pure hyperbole. You can gripe about the overall game concept not being never-before-scene, and that's a legitimate complaint. But the design and intricacy shown in the video is as creative as ever. It doesn't take place on round mini-planets = lazy? No.

The stream was choppy so I missed a lot, but I really thought this and the donkey kong game were 3ds games. I'm disappointed they aren't. :(

This is my biggest disappointment in years. Absolutely heart-shattering.

64, Sunshine, and Galaxy. Each one defined the console for me. And then the fourth console to be graced with a 3D Mario platformer gets a sequel to the handheld title.

This is the follow-up to the great Galaxy? This is the new evolution of 3D platforming? We go from the freshness of planetary travel to a fucking cat suit?

They're going to bury 3D Mario like they did to 2D Mario with a lack of innovation and newness. 3D land was fun, but this is sterility defined.

Dear Nintendo.

When I said I didn't want a "Super Mario Galaxy 3", it was because I wanted you to somehow top your greatest creation with an even more unexpected, insane, yet brilliant idea.

I did not mean Make a sequel to the only 3d mario game which was blatantly rushed to market so you could tick the box saying "this has a 3d mario!".

Ugh. What a letdown that direct was.

Yeah I find this a bit underwhelming. I really enjoyed to huge and original locales of the 3D mario games, and this one doesn't seem to feature any of that.

It doesn't look bad, just a bit bland and boring. 3D marios being some of my favorite games of all time, I'm a bit sad at this.
