Super Mario 3D World for Wii U

I absolutely loved 3D Land to death, but this just disappointed me. I was expecting something on a grand scale as a successor to the two Galaxy games like Super Mario Universe or something like so many speculated it would be. I wanted top of the line graphics and orchestrated music along Galaxy's level.

This looks fun, but was hoping it was just a side project to hold us over until we get a game like that. However, if this was the A team working on this, that tells me we won't be seeing a game like me, and I know many others on here, were hoping for and just were left disappointed.

I will definitely be buying this, but I was expecting to be blown away, and that just didn't happen.

After watching the trailer again I think it looks amazing. Sure, it lacks the crazy punch Galaxy had by not being in space, but the game itself looks super good. The new cat power up looks amazing for speedrunning and the different playable characters with unique abilities is fantastic.

Peach has the float? sold.

3D Land was great, but as a flagship Mario title to sell the Wii U in the face of PS4 and Xbone and following on from the Galaxy games, this is tragically disappointing.

Nintendo is now believing portable games can carry out their home consoles. They made NSBM U which looked like a 3DS game as a flagship title to Wii U release. Didn't worked. Now they're trying to do it again with 3D World.

It's becoming clear to me that Nintendo is trying to target the portable audience with the Wii U. This is a really bad bet, if you ask me.

Looking at the trailer again I am even more disgusted. It doesnt at all look like a AAA game. It looks cheap.
It looks considerably worse than the 3DS game.
It looks like this was developed by Camelot or something.
I cannot believe this is EAD's new game. Nintendo has been murdered

There was loads more to it that simply a 3ds port - those people are trolling.

I thought it looked great - some of the sections looked completely unlike any Mario we've seen before.

Plus playable Peach. <thumbs up>

Lame. I liked 3D Land on the 3DS, but this, as a follow-up to Galaxy, is not very creative. Looks good, but nothing mind-blowing.

This will be super fun, but if it's the follow-up to Galaxy I'm very disappointed. Hopefully it's a stopgap spinoff dealie like the 3DS game it's based on was.

I personally think it looks awesome, but I can see how lots of people are disappointed by it coming off an amazing game in scope/ambition like Galaxy as a flagship title. I think people will warm up to it after they finally get to play it. Kitty Mario is just too adorable

Also, it looks like each character has innate specific abilities, if Peach's glide is anything to go by. It's almost like Doki Doki Panic 3D World.

Pure Laziness.

Seems more like desperation to me. They know any Mario game will sell systems so they probably chose this as they could throw it together more quickly than a Galaxy style game.

The writing was on the wall, but we weren't paying attention.

Mario 3D Land sold really well in Japan, especially for a Mario 3D game.

This is the Mario 3D formula they were looking for.

I'm excited and I think it looks good, but I'm fully expecting it to be offline only. >.>

LOVED the 3DS game, thought it was fantastic and there was absolutely loads to find and unlock. Got fucking nails hard too! :) Happy Xmas me thinks.

Well I'm that desperate for games on WiiU that I might pick this up for £20. But no more. It's certainly shouldn't be pitched as a full price game.

When I was watching the trailer on the live Direct with mega lag and horrid resolution, I totally thought it was a 3ds game, and was feeling pretty disappointed, but just watching the trailer again on youtube in HD, its actually pretty great looking, way better than 3ds could hope to do. I was expecting something... more surprising though.

I can assure you, it's more AAA than any crappy bald marine shooter sequel of sequel.

This is crap. Tokyo Software Development Group 2 should stop making games... this looks so boring, average and generic; I hope they never touch the Mario series again (note that this is coming from someone who didn't like SMG2, but liked SMG). Now I know that aside from TW101, there's nothing that incites me to get a Wii U this year. Great.

Looks very fun, but certainly uninspired. It looks like Nintendo just took a bunch of 3DS games, upped the resolution, and called them Wii U games.

No, just no. There's making a point and then there's resorting to ridiculous hyperbole

Due to the spotty streaming quality I missed the introduction and it absolutely took me a couple of minutes to figure out if it was a new 3DS game or the new Wii U game. Maybe that says more about me than it does the game but it is not hyperbole. It happened.

I enjoyed 3D Land more than either Galaxy title (which I also enjoyed plenty though), so this is not any sort of disappointment. Giving me the co-op I love from the console NSMB games and going back to SMB2 unique character physics (as opposed to generic Toads+Luigi) is long overdue.

I thought this game was going to be for 3DS, but I'm really disappointed that it's coming out for Wii U since I was expecting another Galaxy game. I'm not that excited for this game.

The 2D games are more popular than the 3D ones so Nintendo is trying to combine elements from both like they did with 3D Land. 3D Land was successful so now they're doing it again.

lol @ people calling this uncreative. If you rewatch the trailer, you will see a lot of new concepts the have implemented.

It looks fun, but this is not what I expect from their flagship franchise. 3D Mario should be something fresh and in the case of the WiiU, utilize the gamepad in a new and exciting way. Instead we get a sequel to a 3DS game.

Overall Nintendo dissapoints far more than even a naysayer would have predicted. meh

X looked cool though

Hell yes, this looks awesome. I think it was my favorite game of the show. Reminiscent of SMB2, 4 players, Peach...

The music was crap in the trailer, but otherwise it looked great. I just hope it's more open world.

for everyone disappointed, remember that the initial Galaxy reveal in 2006 was pretty fucking underwhelming too... and that turned out to be one of the best games last gen.

Without doubt the biggest gaming disappointment I've ever experienced. I know it's daft but I was really expected to see a true HD version of Galaxy or SM64 but no. We get a HD version of a fucking 3DS games. What a pile of shite.

It's good you started gaming only 2 years ago then.

What?
I'm not the one who started the hyperbole here

What the heck is this. This is the follow up to Galaxy 2? This should have been a 3DS game.

They didn't even try. Sunshine was a disappointment but at least they tried. This is a pillow wrapped in bubble wrap kind of playing it safe.

I'm sure it'll be a good game but unfortunately that's probably be all it will be, just another good game. Console 3D Mario should be an event.

well this cements mario as a furry

anyway

I wanted next 3D mario galaxy-style

I got the evolution of NSMB instead

i'll take it, but still disappoint

Yeah this is basically where I'm at it with it. It looks really fun though, to be fair.

How do you go from Super Mario Galaxy to this?

This is pretty much the definition of kitsch. They've basically New Super Mario Bros'd the 3D Mario line, which has (as of late) been vaunted for its creativity and imagination.

"Disappointed" does not begin to describe my feelings about this one.

No, just no. There's making a point and then there's resorting to ridiculous hyperbole

So did I and many other people. However, I think a lot of that comes from the quality of the streams we were watching. It's obviously a Wii U title when looking at the nice, HD trailer. Still, I think some people were so dead set on the idea that the Wii U Mario would be a bit different from this, that they had to assume this was a 3DS game, and not the Wii U Mario game they hoped for. It's a good lesson for me to keep my expectations in check in the future. I did like how much stuff they dug up from older Mario games though.
