Super Mario 3D World for Wii U

Looks awesome.

The Kotaku article on Nintendo playing it safe, yet playing it fun is right, though. This is a safe game, but I'm pretty confident that it's going to be my favorite 3D Mario ever.

Also...

Galaxy -> Galaxy 2 = "EAD Tokyo are awesome!"
3D Land -> 3D World = "EAD Tokyo have no more ideas!"

I don't understand that... Especially since a lot of people like 3D Land MORE than Galaxy.

I remember a lot of people saying that Nintendo and EAD Tokyo had lost it when they announced Galaxy 2. That it was an expansion pack and a money grab with no ambition.

And it turned out to be the best 3D platformer ever, so.

I loved Super Mario 3D Land...and 4 players? Yeah, I'm fully hyped for this. I also absolutely love the nod to SMB2 with each character having their unique jumping ability. Damn, I'll be playing this whole game as the princess.

I hoped for something that would be as fresh and mind blowing as Mario Galaxy at its reveal. Instead it's just a bigger version of Mario 3D Land. Disappointed, to say the least.

The last time i said "THIS IS A HORRIBLE MARIO GAME AND NOBODY WILL BUY IT" was just before New super mario bros wii sold one trillion copies

So, i dont like this new one. But you never know

well this cements mario as a furry

anyway

I wanted next 3D mario galaxy-style

I got the evolution of NSMB instead

i'll take it, but still disappoint

I'm looking forward to it. But i'd be lying if I said that I wasn't hoping that they were working on a new single player 3D Mario instead.

So....... this is their flagship 3D Mario game? EAD Tokyo went from Galaxy games to this.

.........................................

:'(

Looks worse than Sunshine... Seriously Nintendo, quit half-assing games and put some real resources behind the game and changing the industry, rather than coasting on nostalgia.

Going from SM64 to Sunshine to Galaxy, to this?

this looks so worse... they should just release it on 3ds and make a decent WiiU game.
RIP WiiU
What's a decent Wii U game? More than likely shitting all over platformers on all platforms isn't good enough? smh

I'm sure it'll be great, but the more traditional route 3D Land took isn't really what I wanted out of Wii U Mario. I was hoping for a return to the playground-ish exploration and wider angle scale of 64/Galaxy, this feels more like it should've been a 3DS sequel. :/

Also, pretty underwhelming visually. Especially being followed by MK8, which looked rather amazing. EAD kinda showing up EAD Tokyo on that front is a surprise.

Disappointment of the show.

3D Land was a perfect fit for a handheld. But I was expecting the new console Mario to blow me away. Visually, it wasn't even on par with the Galaxy games. Where's the ambition?

You know they fucked up when a 3D Mario platformer is completely overshadowed by Mario Kart.

wait, this was for the Wii U?

while watching I honestly was thinking this was a 3ds game... This is not the 3d mario game I wanted. No star tropics. *sigh*

I think the new Mario announcement is what was going to push me to get a Wii U today....but I have 3D Land on 3DS, and while I really like it, it's not a substitute for a new stunning idea for a console Mario game that I needed. Very dissapointed if this is all they've got.

I can't believe this was their Mario announcement. This should've been their launch game. I didn't even consider a Mario announced today wouldn't at least loosely follow up 64/Galaxy.

Where's the imagination and grandiosity? The music?

It's not that this doesn't look good. I liked 3D Land a lot, but that series was fine on the 3DS. I want more out of a big Mario entry on consoles. They had to know how underwhelming this was going to look.

3D Land was great, but as a flagship Mario title to sell the Wii U in the face of PS4 and Xbone and following on from the Galaxy games, this is tragically disappointing.

I expected much more excitement over the first simultaneous 4-player 3D Mario game. With 3D Land's perfection of level design and the whole cast / abilities of SMB2. Y'all crazy. This will be one of the best multiplayer experiences ever to hit the market.

Underwhelmed, disappointed, etc.

Let's see how it turns out in the end.

*sigh*

It gets harder to be a Nintendo fan every damnd ay.

Fucking christ, I wanted the security of at least having a decent 3D Mario once I decided to drop $200 on the Monster Hunter box. Into the PS4 fund it goes.

And there are multiple people claiming 3D Land is better than the Galaxies. Holy hell.

I remember a lot of people saying that Nintendo and EAD Tokyo had lost it when they announced Galaxy 2. That it was an expansion pack and a money grab with no ambition.

And it turned out to be the best 3D platformer ever, so.

But that was an expansion pack to the game of the forever, not to the middling 3D Land.

This game is a disgrace. Another talented Nintendo studio wasted. Who asked for this shit? Who asked for a console Mario game with gameplay designed for a handheld? I couldn't give two fucks about multiplayer Mario either. BLARGH. Where my Mario Galaxy 3 at. :|

Without doubt the biggest gaming disappointment I've ever experienced. I know it's daft but I was really expected to see a true HD version of Galaxy or SM64 but no. We get a HD version of a fucking 3DS games. What a pile of shite.

The core gaming of a Mario game is the platforming, at least in the 3D console games.

Lets at least play the damn thing or get hands on impressions to see how it plays. In terms of looks, I mean if you take out the shooting to different planets, the actual platforming was always traditional Mario even in the Galaxy games.

Whether its set in space, on land, or where this is set, as long as the game plays well (and all Mario games do) who cares?

I didn't play the 3DS game so this is all new to me. And its made by the same team that made the first two galaxy games? I doubt it is online but if it is, it might be game of the year!

The real disappointment is Mario Kart 8 is being released in Spring 2014. Leaves a huge gap in this fall's release schedule. MK 8 had to be in this year.

They literally phoned in a 3D Mario.

Iwata is trying to get stuff out that will require minimal cost and development time. Games like 3D World, Donkey Kong, Wind Waker etc show this the most.

I honestly feel kind of bad for being excited about this. Super Mario 3D Land was one of my favorite Mario games and this looks like it's blending everything I loved about previous 3D Mario games while expanding with ideas from SMW and SM2 that really needed evolving upon.

Like everyone I expected something brand new but... This actually looks incredibly fun. And good.

Looks cute and fun... but I was expecting something special... a Galaxy HD with new levels would be better than this, and I loved 3D Land. :/

I'm not going to lie, I felt severe disappointment watching that being revealed. I was really looking for something to blow me away.

Now I've got over that though, 3D land was a fantastic, fantastic game so I'm sure it will still be great. Multiplayer is really nice as well. Just wish it pushed the hardware a bit more.

Is Super Mario 3D World the main console game or should we expect another one?

Or is it a spinoff like New Super Mario Bros?

I'm sure lots of people were expecting something like Super Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy, or even Sunshine but we got Super Mario 3D World instead. So is there a chance for another 3D Mario or is 3D World going to be the Mario game for Wii U?

When I first connected to the E3 Direct, this was on the live stream. I immediately thought it was SM3DL 2. It wasn't until I got to work that I realized that this was a Wii U game.

Needless to say, I am disappointed. ;_;

I don't get it either, Galaxy 2 was the most safe and insulting sequel I ever got from Nintendo but people here seem to like it....
3D Land was insultingly easy in the 1rst few world but at least the other half was way better than SMG2.
I reserve judgment till I get more info on that but so far if it's a focus back on gameplay over nonsensical level design I'll take it.
Heck at least it doesn't put the Mario levels in a blender and we're back on solid ground.

Yeah Mario Galaxy 3 would have been really really good, but this doesn't look half bad. Let's see how it turns out.

You wanted a new 3D Mario game in 2013?
Well this is the only way Nintendo had a chance of delivering one this year.

It would have taken them a few more years for another Galaxy type of game. You would think that they already had enough time huh? :-/

I just finished 3D land the other day - I finally bought a 3DS just for that game because I've heard so many good things about it. It was good, but not incredible by any means. The thought of that game, but on a bigger scale and on a larger screen, does not get me excited. I was expecting a game to finally get me to purchase a WiiU. Oh well.
