btw thanks to everyone who hasn't only been posting levels but also critiquing other people's creations, whether it is in here or on miiverse. this loop of trying out a whole bunch of levels, giving feedback and simultaneously reflecting on one's own design philosophy is not something you get to do everyday, i feel, and it is immensely valuable.

So guys... noob question: how does one unlock items and worlds? My little brother has been making a level for more than an hour now and he hasn't unlocked any thing new for a while.

You just have to place a crap ton of blocks down. Then it should say the next set of items came early.

Simple but fun! I like the idea of the 100 coin thing, and your level is fun to play through multiple times too!

I'm gonna do a couple 100-level challenges, and then I'm gonna play a bunch of your guys' levels.

I really hope they keep updating this game. As has been pointed out, 1-UPs are a bit worthless since you can't make "worlds" or anything.

I would love the ability to make overworlds.

Also, a way to toggle the course preview in the listings would be easily implemented and is sorely needed. :/

Looks like the biggest star of SMM right now is that guy called Niramou from France. Can't believe his most rated levels are the ones where you don't press anything haha. They are cool though.

Thank you! I just spent an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out how to level input codes. Why is every other menu option able to be done with the controls and not touch?

Feelin' stupid.

Finally finished my first level after hours of tuning. Probably could have done more but the game was hitting its item limit. I thought up this level back when we thought unlocks were only unlocked daily, so I limited myself to tier 1 items. Wish I could have used signs but otherwise I'm pretty happy with it.

ID: 4CF9-0000-001A-E873, title is The Rise and Fall of King Goomba. Gimme your levels, I've been in the creator since I got home (roughly 6 hours!).

I like this quite a bit. I feel like in the middle the claustrophobia isn't used to the same effect that it is towards the beginning and end

Unlocked the castle and SMB3 style, so of course, here is a fairly minimalistic castle:

It's all about riding skull platforms and avoiding fire bars. It's easy to me because I know the intended path, but I'd like some feedback on how difficult it is for someone coming in blind.

So wait you can't unlock the fireworks and stuff and weird special effects that are in the prebuilt levels?

First level I tried here on GAF and thank you for a level that isn't stupid. Great job. It's short and sweet. Can be hard but I still got through in one go, hits that nice "woah I am going to die omg I made it" moments. I'll follow you.

That was great! I lost like 10 times but it was fun haha! Thought but fair :D

Spin jump immediately after the bullet bills.

Jumping immediately either gets me bitten after the spin jump ends or forces the piranha plant to stay in the pipe. It works 100% if I delay a bit, but it's a bit awkward to learn the timing. No big deal though.

Edit: By the way,
what do the wrong doors do? I chose the correct one the first time.
 
I would love the ability to make overworlds.

That would be amazing. It's a crying shame they've given us such an incredibly intuitive and powerful level editor, yet we can't even link together levels or make overworlds. Those things alone would take the game to a whole new level.

pretty neat one, i thought the mr. driller-esque section was cool and probably something that could be expanded upon!

Fourth level, this time a castle level. Watch out for a hidden costume, and a sub area in this course! Tell me what you think!

somehow had missed your previous levels so i had to play this one - i really liked what i played, it felt very fresh to me! only reason i stopped midway through is because i'm super tired and i probably wouldn't have managed the jump on the koopa on to the next platform after the pipe leading to the thwomp tonight, haha. hopefully i'll remember to get back to this, otherwise i'll be checking out your future levels, anyway!

oh man, thanks! super glad to hear you enjoyed it. i hope you'll try out the other gaffer levels, as well, i think they're 1000x higher quality than the average level you come across in 100 mario challenge. be sure to check out the community showcase on the first page, too!

I'd like to second this! I've been so sucked into the game that I've only played a couple of GAF levels so far but I plan to dig into it more. It's great seeing people giving feedback though and getting a Miiverse comment always feels SO AWESOME! I'm going to start commenting on my favorite levels just to pay that goodness forward.

This game REALLY needs custom tags. That'd be my #1 update request but I think it's probably the least likely. I'd love to be able to cycle through the NeoGAF tag list in-game. Or an "Auto" tag.
 
Just realized you can skip the jail section of my level with a well timed jump. Booooooooooo. I assume you can't adjust things after you've uploaded them without reuploading right?

It was really difficult ahaha, I died so much. Finally got to the end and had decided that no, I cannot get to the top of the flagpole. The multiple paths you had going on were interesting.

Funny thing about that, I had to scale it back some because the game was tearing from all of the blocks/coins.

I just got a message saying that the multday unlock was patched out, but I just got a message saying they were coming tomorrow.

What gives?

That doesnt have to be a bad thing. If I discovered something like that on one of my levels, I would add a up after the skip as a reward

The unlock wasnt patched out, they added new ways to unlock besides the wait a day one. If you do meet the requirements you will get the new pieces right away

Cool level, great idea. There was a part in the middle where if you jump on the highest platform you can't see the lowest one which you need to reach. Other than that I really liked it.

So I got a notification that I won't unlock any more mystery mushrooms from playing easy 100 Mario Challenge. Is that permanent? Does normal cap out after a certain amount of completions too?

Because I'm doing an Expert run right now and dear god... so many bullshit trial and error stages...

The very fisrt piranha plant is evil! I was wall jumping at max distance and I hit it, it was out of sight before I got super close so I could not avoid it. Besides that its a pretty cool level.

My 7yo nephew has been working on this level for the last few hours, and I think it turned out really well. It could be tightened up in spots, but it's a competent Mario level with little gimmicks. Thought I'd share with you guys.
