Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

Sorry if annoyed anyone about 3DS vs. Wii U but I want to add one last thing.

I know it's stupid to bring Wii and DS sales but didn't Mario Kart DS sold like 22 million and NSMB.DS sold 30 million on 150 million install base? What this have to do with anything you say? Well the Wii versions that both came out 3 years later and on a lower install base by 50 million, still managed to outsell their handheld counterpart it's 35 million for MKWii and 29 million for NSMBW.

You can say that it's a new mainline game rather than a port, but the fact that MKWii outsold the DS version by 13 million while also being on lower install base is amazing.
NSMBW didn't outsell the ds version but it was very close doing so.These games and especially MK are enjoyed best on a big tv that's how they managed to outsell the handhelds versions, even though MKDS was a better game (Imo).

The 3ds have higher install base but that doesn't translate to higher sales. I'm 100% sure if both 3ds and Wii u version came out at the same time Nintendo will mostly advertise the Wii u version just like every newcomer trailer only show the Wii u version and like 80% of pictures on both the website and Miiverse are Wii u version.

Let's say only 50 percent of the people who bought brawl are interested in Smash 4, of those fifty 30% want an HD Smash and are not interested in downgrading to a handheld version with worse picture quality and way worse way to play, the other 20 don't care and will either buy the 3ds version because budget problems or won't get the game.

the Wii U sure wishes it was at a 2:3 ratio vs the 3DS

My dream roster. No new Pokemon came to mind.
Lucina would be so good. Sadly we'll probably get Chrom instead. :(

But the DS outsold the Wii by over 50 Million,MKW still outsold MKDS by over 13 Million even though install base was smaller and MKDS was better.
I don't think you get just how badly the Wii U is doing. A lot of the people who bought MKWii bought it because they already had a Wii. They won't suddenly sell systems with SSB.

I was going for Chrom but the Fire Emblem reps would be so... uniform eugh. Three blue-haired, sword wielding males. Booooorrrringggg.

That's why Awakening's rep should be the Avatar. In a game that already has "villager", he/she wouldn't be out of place as far as generic main characters go.

Stupid Wii u and it's stupid price making Smash sell less than it deserves

I hope Nintendo drop the Wii u price to 150$ or 200$ at least when Smash releases.

I'm already getting it, too many good games to skip it.

Y'all need to get over the fact that the 3DS game will far outsell that of the Wii U.

It's inevitable and don't compare this to Wii sales, the Wii U is nowhere near as appealing as the Wii was.

I explained this a million times, that price would royally screw over 3DS sales, unless Nintendo losers the price of the 3DSes, too.

$250 is the most plausible price drop target right now.

I guess I can consider myself lucky because I will be one of the small majority that will experience Smash 4 in glorious Full HD at 60 FPS on my HDTV.

Well... you at least got 3D and portability going for you.

I love the Mario universe so I try to learn those characters (Mario is my main, Luigi and Pit subs). Been fooling around with Bowser in Brawl and love his power. And the fact that he looks faster in this one gets me all kinds of excited. I want to add him and Mega Man to my playable list.

Man anyone else excited to try out Bowser?

I'm excited to try out EVERYONE.

If Sakurai is really giving every character a sense of power and dangerousness - some serious oomph - I will definitely be excited to play. However, having followed the dojo religiously before buying Brawl, I'm definitely going to wait to hear first impressions, especially as it comes to netcode.

That being said, this game is one more reason I'm going to eventually fold and get a Wii U. In a couple of years my daughter will be old enough to play video games with me - I think Nintendo still offers the best system for that kind of play.

Yeah me and my 5 year old loving playing Brawl and Mario Kart. She's already excited to try Rosalina in the new Smash game.

Yeah there are some cuts between the generation due to new pokemon games.

iirc only Snorlax, Goldeen and Electrode have appeared in every Smash Bros 64->Melee had a number of cuts and Melee->Brawl had a huge amount of cuts.

The Pokemon lineups are almost completely different in every game. Electrode wasn't even in Pokeballs in the first one, but it showed up in Saffron City.

The only ones that are in all three games are:
Goldeen
Mew
Snorlax
Starmie in 64 is more or less the same as Staryu in Melee and Brawl, so it sort of counts.

Then the only question remains... are they gonna comeback?

I wish for Snorlax to be more big it's always fun to throw your friends at the Pokemon LOL
I got hyped again, what do you guys do while waiting for more videos /information?

But why doesn't anyone want it? It has quite a lot of really good games; some of the best I've played in years. It isn't that expensive either.
The tech is eight years old, the tablet controller is an unwieldy gimmick, and the name is confusing and awful.

I love Nintendo, obviously -- I think any of us obsessed with Smash Bros. does -- but the Wii U is completely and entirely unappealing. There's no saving it.

I would play Smash but I'm at University and can't! (Don't have my Wii here). I guess I could... try Playstation All-Stars...

Where the heck do you all got those GIFs?
Also don't, it isn't worth it, I buyed the game on release only to be dissapointed... (also bear in mind that I got the game fully understanding that it would not be like Smash)

But why doesn't anyone want it? It has quite a lot of really good games; some of the best I've played in years. It isn't that expensive either.

Maybe because most people say that "they're waiting for the better games"
Many people don't accept that some Nintendo games have the magic of old times or are easily swayed by other people to buy the Ps4 or Xbox One "because it's the best"
Sadly I saw this a lot in my group of friends, while they most have the new generation consoles already they go to my house almost every weekend to play Wii U games...

I think that mainly Nintendo news a big ass advertising campaign or well who knows?!

They appeal to existing nintendo fans. They don't appeal to a lot of other types of gamers. The audience that bought a Wii for the sports/fit has moved on almost entirely. The audience that plays COD or other shooters is on next gen or PC (or still on ps3/xbox). Different people have different tastes, and it appears that not that many like the games that are already on the system. Or maybe 1-2 appeal to them, but 1-2 isn't enough to drop 300 bucks on.

I want to play killer instinct, for example, but i'm not dropping 500 bucks for an xbox one.

It's still selling few thousands every week, I'm pretty sure it would sell better if it's cheaper.

Anything will sell a little bit better if you make it cheaper, but that won't target the core issues. It'd be like putting a bandaid on a severed limb. They need a paradigm shift, and that won't come from anything but amazing new software and radically different marketing. And even then, it's not looking good. They can't afford a price drop anyway with how much the system is costing them to produce, a price drop plus only marginal sales increases net an overall loss in income.

But why doesn't anyone want it? It has quite a lot of really good games; some of the best I've played in years. It isn't that expensive either.

I can only speculate, and even then I'm not entirely sure. Terrible marketing blunders, ranging from making the system look identical to the original Wii to naming the system something that doesn't clearly identify it as an actual new machine. A steady decrease in interest towards Nintendo's core franchises that was offset on the Wii only by the presence of a massive casual fanbase that has since moved its attention to mobile phone gaming. A launch featuring no system-selling titles. Scorn by dudebro gamers who don't see value in a "weak" machine, but mostly who don't see value in a Nintendo machine period. There's a lot to look at here. But price really doesn't seem to be the issue, when you consider that the first pricedrop did very little, and that $350 just isn't a huge amount for a new machine. The everyday consumer does not equate tech power with dollar value in a console the way the hardcore internet does, no one is thinking "this isn't worth the money." They're thinking either "this isn't worth any money" or "what is a Wii U?"

I was really hoping today's picture would be revealing Mewtwo as a pokeball Pokemon. The meltdown on Miiverse would have been glorious.

Wow, Gaf is the last place I ever thought I'd see a gif of Mark.

it wouldn't provide nearly enough to "save it", and instead Nintendo would eat massive losses for....nothing really

if you want 8th gen stuff, you can get a PS4 for only $100 more
if you want 7th gen stuff, you can get a 360/PS3 for a far cheaper price
maybe without the gamepad, it could be $200 by now, but as of now many of Nintendo's biggest titles aren't even on the system yet, not to mention the audience for Nintendo first party has been shrinking anyway (literally every console from NES to Wii U, with the exception of the Wii, sold less than its predecessor)

My dream roster. No new Pokemon came to mind.

How did you get that boss older Ike icon? I can't find it anywhere in this thing. :lol

Stop giving me hope dammit. ;_;

On the inside, I'm dying a little because I hd to drop the Isa/Katchi love. At the same time, something is better than nothing and Sin & Punishment is awesome enough that it should get something.

In before we get an Isa Katchi AT team up.

I was going for Chrom but the Fire Emblem reps would be so... uniform eugh. Three blue-haired, sword wielding males. Booooorrrringggg.

This is honestly my only beef with Chrom at current. It's big enough however that I feel bad when I see everyone asking for him and I'm internally going "please no" like a jerk. Robin's better and probably the most likely after Chrom but something's not there for me to really be invested in him/her. I back Anna because she has the senority, would make a nice contrast to the current FE lords and their personalities and she could also play up her apparent knowledge of all things FE in her move set.

That and I really really really want someone with a coin flip projectile. I blame Johnny in Guilty Gear for that.

Oh don't worry, "horrid" is just my nickname for anything I disagree with.

Your roster lacks abominations, which is where I'd really judge you.

I'm curious as to what entails an abomination ranking. :lol

Man anyone else excited to try out Bowser?

I want to say yes, but man I am so ready for new Pit (I blame learning the new Wings of Icarus stuff from Project M) and potentially new Samus. That's not counting other characters who could essentially become brand new in this game (Ganondorf pls).

Since people are posting their wish list. Here is my wishy washy roster, along with my friends' characters that they desire to see.

Fut9lon.jpg

The roster isn't final tho since I kept changing my minds with few characters, but I will eventually change them when we get more characters announcements.

"Isn't that expensive" is a subjective view. For a console $300 isn't what I'd call "Isn't that expensive" when for $100 more, you can get a better console in terms of specs and 3rd party support. And for a secondary console, $300 is still a lot to shell out for what some view as a handful of games. If the price was closer to $200 it'd be easier for more people to bite the bullet and buy it for those handful of games
