Maybe, maybe not. We'll actually have information and subject matter to discuss. Busier, maybe, but we can't get much worse... Right?

Also, I really am gonna miss these PotDs. I was in high school when they did all the Brawl updates, and now they've helped me finish undergrad and were around for a wee bit of grad. If Smash 6 ever happens, I don't even know if I'd have the time to keep up with this kind of stuff again. Last time I went through this from GameFAQs, but from my time spent lurking about a year ago until now, I'm glad I spent this time with all of you. You all really helped me feel like a part of the GAF community, and I thank you. Honestly, I wouldn't be a GAFfer if it wasn't for all of you.

PotD's another damn menu tonight, though, calling it now.

Anna is and always will be my favourite FE character/potential newcomer, but she would not fit as a Lucina alt at all. No relation whatsoever. Robin would work better - at least s/he has the Levin Sword.

Most characters have a unique enough identity that I'd rather see them as clones with a separate roster slot, but Ninten (over Ness) and Katerina (over Robin) would probably straddle the line enough to work. The same would apply to Liquid, Naked and Solidus Snake, Hilda, Ravio and (ideally) Dark Pit.

1. Megaman- uh its a little harder for me to say for 3rd parties since its up to Capcom as well. I figured he might be a priority but it could go either way

2. Pacman- seemed pretty likely to me with Namco assisting in development. It had nothing to do with the Gematsu leak. Pacman is adored by Nintendo and he is one of the only Namco characters that fit in with Nintendo characters and make sense.

3. Wii Fit Trainer- never occured to me

4. Villager- Regardless of Sakurai's comments in the past I still saw an A.C. newcomer happening. Although i was thinking Tom Nook since we had never played as a customizable avatar without a canon name before. I still find it odd we only have one A.C. rep though. We should've gotten two given how popular the series is.

5. Rosalina- I thought she was too new of a Mario character. Although a few months prior to her announcement I was making arguments as to why I could see her in Smash. I was ecstatic when she was anounced.

6. Little Mac- Gematsu Leak or not he was expected.

7. Greninja- Given Mewtwo's resurgence in popularity and not knowing transformation characters had been cut, I was expecting Mewtwo and a female pokemon trainer who had different sets of starters from other generations. Im happy that Greninja made it. I still have a small sliver of hope Mewtwo may return.

8. Palutena- no doubt in my mind she was in. Was blown away that there were people out there who seriously thought she wouldn't be in.

9. Mii- figured they were coming although not in the way that they did.

10. Lucina- I figured some sort of tag team or switch out between her and Chrom was the most likely. I felt an awakening rep was pretty guaranteed.

11. Robin- never occured to me but I read people coming up with ideas for Robin and I liked their ideas. So I was pleasantly surprised when Lucina and Robin joined the cast.

12. Shulk- prior to the gematsu leaks I kinda grouped him in with the people asking for Isaac, Ray-01, Chibi Robo etc. He was from a niche game that Nintendo reluctantly localized in the west. Post-Gematsu leaks, I saw him as likely and I was fairly underwhelmed with his reveal trailer, tbh.

13. Bowser Jr.- I always thought he had a strong chance and felt him and Toad were the most deserving Mario reps to get in. However once Rosalina was anounced I didnt think we would get another Mario rep. However Bowser Jr. looks great along with the Koopalings alternates.

14. Duck Hunt Dog- blind sided me. Always saw that as one of those silly try hard requests to come up with some oddball retro character. I look forward to trying him out though.

15. Dark Pit- thought hed be an alternate color/costume. Honestly wasnt expecting a 3rd KI rep and if there was one he was all the way at the bottom. I would've preferred Medusa, Hades, Magnus or Viridi to have made it in before him and in that order of preference. Oh well, he was a minimal effort clone to pad the roster so im not too worried.

*Dr Mario- once alternate costumes were anounced I expected his return but not having his own slot on the roster.

They sound like re-orchestrations more than arrangements, which is fine considering the Wii U version so far has a Rock Version of Ballad of the Goddess. I think I'll cut my loses with the 3DS version.

Tharja can use the Levin Sword when reclassed to a Dark Knight, and Robin can use Nosferatu when in Dark Mage or Sorcerer. Although it's beyond the limits of their starting class, both are within the characters' ingame abilities.

Though if they were to stick roughly with a tome + sword class, I'd love to see a Dread Fighter or Dark Knight alt. Perhaps even the DLC version of Alm?

Why did you think she was too new a character? dont you guys realize that mario galaxy came out in like 2006

I dont mind the missing colors for Bowser Jr. Because we get the Koopalings which is amazing.

I think Peach had huge missed opportunities for clothing and costumes like Daisy, her Sunshine dress, etc.

Other than that given how important Link and Samus are I feel they could've done more tunics and suits for them that just the eight since little mac gets 16. However im being greedy. I guess impa as a Sheik alternate would be cool. Also Zelda getting costumes based on her different appearances such as an OoT costume, TP costume(standard), SS costume, ALttP outfit etc.. Ness getting a Lucas, Ninten and Paula alternate costume. Fox getting a real wolf alt costume if he's not in the game
 
If Lucas got knocked down to an alt costume I'd want to see Claus, Paula, and Poo in there as alts as well. That's the only way I'd be kinda alright with losing Lucas as a character

They were really strict about the no camera thing. One of the attendants even came over and covered up the screen when I was playing with the Item Switch to make sure I was "just playing Smash." Zipzo only managed to snag a picture or two because he had his wife there as an accomplice. I don't think anyone would have been able to capture any video footage without getting caught...

She had been around for 6 years at that time in which she didnt do a ton outside of Galaxy. Meanwhile characters like Toad and Bowser Jr. still hadn't made it into Smash despite their long history. Like I said though before she was anounced as playable in Smash or SM3DW, I did see potential in her as a character. I remember stating that similar to Sheik in OoT, Rosalina is a huge fan favorite in a pivotal game in the series and that I could see Sakurai choosing her as a character. I just saw it as a long shot all things considered.

It's worth trying to remember. If you say stuff like Zelda is overpowered, Roy is better than Marth, or Jigglypuff sucks, people are going to look at you funny.

Here's some lingo you should know:
Wavedashing: Jumping and air-dodging towards the ground, resulting in a slidey move that's useful for moving around.
L-cancelling: Pressing L or R before landing from an aerial attack to reduce landing lag.
Nair/fair/bair/dair/up air: Nicknames for A moves in the air. For example, nair = neutral air.
Spot-dodge: The sidestep. They call them spot-dodges for some reason. Because you're dodging on the spot, I guess.

Tech chase: This is when you anticipate where/when someone is going to tech, and get in position to be able to hit or grab them again while they're vulnerable.
Space Animals/Spacies: Fox and Falco.
_ Stock: When you win with that many stocks remaining. So if you win without losing a single stock, it's a four stock. Kinda similar to perfects in traditional fighting games.
JV _ Stock: When you win at 0%, you basically add one to the number of stocks you have and put JV in front of it. So if you win with 3 stocks and 0%, it's a JV four stock.

That should be enough to start you off. Oh yeah, and watch the documentary if you haven't.

I actually kept my guesses from way back when before the game was ever officially announced, and then the updated one a year later when it was announced and we knew Namco were involved.

Pac-Man - Called it once we knew the devs. A no-brainer. 1/1 so far.
Palutena - Did not predict. Even after Uprising came out, I still thought he'd go with Hades or Medusa. 1/2
Little Mac - Another no-brainer. Guy had a game on the Wii, it's a semi-major franchise that's unrepresented till now etc. 2/3
Mii - Yep, called it. Represents the Wii era more than anything else. Didn't predict the implementation, but I was sure they'd be in there. 3/4
Lucina - I will be honest, I made my predictions before FE:A came out, so I couldn't have seen this one... but I DID predict a female fire emblem character so I'm giving myself half under the circumstances. 3.5/5
Mega Man - Yes. Number one requested character, predicted him from the get-go. 4.5/6
Shulk - Again, Xenoblade wasn't out / I hadn't played it when I made my predictions. When it came out, I thought he had a solid 50/50 chance but no more. Can't give myself any points here. 4.5/7
Greninja - Predicted we'd get 'popular Pokemon from the 3DS gen', couldn't have done more as the games weren't out. 5.5/7
Wii Fit Trainer - Out of left field. Other people did suggest it, I thought they were joking. No points here. 5.5/8
Robin - Completely unpredictable, the biggest shock inclusion for me. 5.5/9
Bowser Jr. - Didn't see it coming, not happy it came. 5.5/10
Villager - Was the character I was always most sure about. 6.5/11
Rosalina - Thought she had a 50/50 shot but thought they'd be reluctant to add more Mario characters. 6.5/12

So about half right. Not too bad considering how far out I made my calls. I wasn't counting the two blatant clones (Lucina is special, see) but adding them in:

Clones:
Dr. Mario - Nah. Still find it hard to believe he's in. 6.5/13
Dark Pit - You must be joking, Sakurai. 6.5/14

I also called some other stuff
Snake - Called that he'd be dropped
Ridley - Called that he wouldn't be in
Wolf - Called that he'd be dropped
Alph - Called that he'd be an alt for Olimar, or replace him outright

The one character I was sure would get in that hasn't was Tetra. I was 100% on that one. Just take Toon Link, a terrible idea for a character with a decent moveset, and make him into Tetra. Tweak the moveset a bit and bam! Popular new character, new female, fun times all around. I failed to realise how much Sakurai hates the Zelda franchise. I also thought he'd fix Gannondorf.
