Best: The Legend of Zelda (a host of great remixes, plus great imported songs to boot)

Worst: Pikmin (two remixes, and half the imported songs were Ai no Uta; also Environmental Noises, the worst "song" on the OT)
Forgot about Zelda; the tracks there are amazing, both the remixes (Ocarina of Time medley) and the imported ones (<3 Molgera).

And yeah, Pikmin is definitely at the bottom. If Zelda is an A and Metroid is a C, Pikmin's a solid F.

I've been on the fence on the Wii U version. Thing is I'm not *that* big of a multiplayer fan. The last SSB I played was Melee and I loved the heck out of it simply for the different challenges and minigames I could play solo, the baseball bat minigame, fighting through characters up the ladder to get to Master Hand.

Can I do the same here or did Sakurai really nerf the solo component?

We don't know much about the Wii U version.

The 3DS version has Classic Mode but it's short. Also Smash Run, on which Sakurai has inundated us with information. Also Home-Run Contest and Angry Birds ripoff.

We know Smash Run won't be in the Wii U version but those others probably will, along with some other form of solo like Adventure Mode.

What are this game's air dodges like compared to Brawl's? I was under the impression that you couldn't spam them so easily this time around.
They can be used a lot (maybe a 3-4 times on long air time?), but I didn't see anyone in streams having significant problems hitting either humans or level 9 CPUs because of air dodge. I think it will just take good timing.

Classic mode should definitely be back. No word on the crazy, fun events. But what has been definitely axed is the story mode that was present in Brawl =]

Was hoping that would be a SmashGAF one with Sakurai's face lol

Darn the 3DS for not being able to have multiple games stay in the background.
Demos having limits is going to suck when I'm trying to finish up my Tomodachi Life collection since they change daily.

30 uses are enough if you need to close it once a day, the release is closer than a month :)

Anyone ordering a Japanese copy of the game from nin-nin-game, they have the release date listed as the 17th of September instead of the 13th, reckon I should order from somewhere else?

Well the Wii U and 3DS versions will have different modes and we won't know what the Wii U modes will be until the 3DS version is out.

I think we can assume it has Home Run Contest and Classic mode.

Of course it will have Classic mode, but Home Run Contest? It's probable but who knows, maybe Sakurai wants to offer unique single player modes in each version.

My point basically is we don't really know which version of the game will have the better single player content right now.

It has lag if you land with it.

According to Joe there, there isn't much time before you can use it again in the air though. Which is a shame.

Is it worse than Brawl? At least in that you could punish the air dodge if you could bait it.
Well with 30 uses you can at least turn it off at night :p
The Great Gonzales said:
But there are less than 30 days before release - how could you use up all 30 uses in that time?
With normal use, I would easily turn the 3DS on an off more than once a day, playing before and after work, and while I had to do anything else with family or other games.

But that's a good point. Still, I wouldn't do it out of paranoia.

Air Dodge too stronk

Seriously, there's nothing more annoying than watching a CPU spam the air dodge all the way back to the ground making themselves invincible for 99.5% of the duration with very minimal risk added onto the end.

Yup, the metagame will be totally different this time. Let's just hope the metagames are also fun.

For a big release like this, retailers usually receive copies a week or two early. You'd think that somebody would have gotten their hands on the game.

Not always. Worked at gamestop for years, Nintendo sunday releases would usually arrive thur/fri.

It was only the big activision/EA type games that would ever arrive a week+ early.

It sounds to me like japan retailers are getting it today.

I never got the chance to play Brawl. It sounds like if I enjoyed my time with Melee, I'll like this one :D

For all we know, there's probably some people out there with copies who simply choose not to leak it out of fear.

I'd probably be one of them... >.>

Local Gamestop isn't doing a midnight release for the 3DS version because there just aren't enough pre-orders.

Meanwhile, they are apparently innundated with Pokemon pre-orders and will be having a huge event for launch.

PRIORITIES, PEOPLE.

I didn't pre-order Smash

They have more landing lag than in Brawl apparently.

I don't know if they're more or less spammable in midair than they were in Brawl, but there's like, 6 frames or something between air dodges, the landing lag really doesn't make up for how good they are.

It should just be the same as it is (no momentum, no special fall) but only limited to once per air time, there's very little thought put into using an air dodge, you just spam the R button as you return to the stage.

E: It might even be less than 6 frames, if you press the button quickly enough you can barely seem them return to the fall state animation, just air dodges all the way down.

Midnight eshop! :p

Nope. My 3DS only turns off when it resets for updates

Same, or if i'm travelling and need to conserve battery and don't care about streetpasses.

Leaks should probably start tonight or tomorrow morning JP time. I'll be getting my copy tomorrow at any rate.

WHERE ARE YOU?

Wait. Is it bad to leave your 3DS in sleep mode for a long time? I had OoT closed on there for a good month lol.

The only times I turn off my 3DS are when I'm traveling and know I won't have access to a power source any time soon. The system was designed to be left in sleep mode when not in use!

Nintendo straight killed a store for leaking X and Y early, I bet that scared the shit out of a lot of stores that'd normally care very little about selling the game earlier than they should.

For real?

I never, ever, ever leave it on unless it's in use.

Do we know the starting roster? It appears the one in the JP demo is.

I'm kind of bummed if true, most of the "should be" unlockables are there.

Also I don't remember who said you couldn't earlier, but you definitely can tech the meteor smash ground bounces, which really sucks.

Level 9 CPU's practically do it every time, I can use Mario's Fair on Link whilst he's standing still and he can tech the ground bounce and punish me for successfully hitting him.

Just think about that for a second.

It also happens when they're in the air if you're low enough, damn.

That's bad. Why even have the ground bounce then?

Who would be the one "realistic" character to shock you if they were part of the rumored Final Five?

For me it'd be if Doshin was the oft-teased "always someone bigger" character.

I expect more reveals, but I think they'll be basically just clones or missing veterans. Any actual new character would be surprising.

Well, the game isn't out yet. On top of that, nothing has been shown yet about the Wii U's versions single player modes, only 3ds. Well, it's known that Smash Run won't be on the Wii U, but that's it.

In the 3ds, there's a revamp classic mode, with multiple routes and betting difficulty set up like in Kid Icarus Uprising, and the new Smash Run, that mixes adventure mode with Nintendo enemies with special matches at the end (they've shown battles, race to the finish types, horde battles against monsters).

However, at least in the 3ds version, it seems like Event mode and Break the Targets are out. The other stadium modes are still in though (multi-man melee/brawl, homerun contest) , and there's also a new one involving using a bomb to blow up targets.

Not following SSB WiiU/3DS news/progress closely, so be nice if this is old.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I know Namco did Donkey Konga and are now doing this, but why does DK still have the Bongo Final Smash?

Especially when this has the potential to be the most satisfying Final Smash?

I hate reading GAF. It makes me want things I know I can never have.
