Makes sense, but wouldn't that sort of butcher 3DS sales?

I don't think Wii U will get a date, especially when this Treehouse thing is predominately Smash 3DS.

If they do announce something, it seems it may be a delay. I expect a proper release come the next Direct.

Same. I love that you automatically eat the fruit, too. I also like that you can pick up recovery items while holding another item. I also don't seem to recall being able to hold items while doing a final smash and then still having the item when the final smash is done in braw, but that's a thing now.

As is dragoon/daybreak spawning at the same time as smash ball.

Yeah, auto-fruit eating is a great boon. Was worried it was going to be an input. I feel like you hold on to items a lot after things like FS's too. Don't remember it being like that in Brawl.

I feel like the Dragoon pieces spawn in quicker succession than in Brawl, but that may just be the 2 minute setting, which I hardly used.

I don't think announcing a release date is going to derail people's hype for the version that's hitting first with a much larger userbase.

3DS version is going to sell tons no matter what they do. Wii U version needs to ride the 3DS version's momentum.

Why not wait... like... a day at LEAST, after 3DS launch to announce it? Who does it hurt?

All this stands to do is make people say 'oh, the wait's not that long, i'll just wait for Wii U', especially if it's a nov release.

If it's mid/end of december or next year, then maybe people will say 'wow, that's far off, I NEED smash 3DS because I can't wait THAT long.

I think it has the potential to do more harm than good, but that's just me. This only placates die-hard fans who are likely buying both anyway.

Bring it on, I guess :)

Hope its true, but please no delay...

You don't announce BAD news at a promotional treehouse event. That stuff is saved for boring/bland press releases.

What? How? For all intents right now it's still a 2014 game and everyone knows it. An actual date won't change anything.

Edit: I guess I'm talking to georly as well.

A mixture of the tech being almost instantaneous and the Fair landing lag being long enough to punish.

But ground bounces shouldn't be tech-able at all, I was dead excited for playing around with DK and his 3 meteor attacks with this new ground bounce system to see if he could do any cool combos but this has ruined that idea.

His Fair, Dair and Down Special definitely aren't going to be cancellable and probably have much more landing lag the Mario's Fair so those 3 moves are practically useless unless you use them off stage.

Fucking stupid decision.
I didn't understand this at all. What is ground bounce?

I'm surprised by the absence of leaks. Here, in Italy, I can get games 3 days earlier in many ways if I want to and I think that this could happen in America too so WTF Japan?

No way Nintendo drops the game that close to Xmas (NA). Lost sales.

November.

Very true. On the other hand, I'd imagine NoA would want to space out the 3DS and Wii U releases a bit.

Plus, experience has taught me that games always release later than you think they will. Look at Smash 3DS: they say "summer 2014," and the game releases as late into summer as you could possible get (and in NA, not in summer at all.) I'm thinking Smash Wii U will either be right up against the holiday season or pushed back to 2015 (which I doubt will happen.)

They have more landing lag than in Brawl apparently.

I don't know if they're more or less spammable in midair than they were in Brawl, but there's like, 6 frames or something between air dodges, the landing lag really doesn't make up for how good they are.

It should just be the same as it is (no momentum, no special fall) but only limited to once per air time, there's very little thought put into using an air dodge, you just spam the R button as you return to the stage.

E: It might even be less than 6 frames, if you press the button quickly enough you can barely seem them return to the fall state animation, just air dodges all the way down.
This should be very easy for a streamer to confirm. Makai or someone else with the game, can you please try using someone like villager to fly high in the air against a level 9 CPU, then just spam air dodge all the way down? If it's truly 1/10th of a second between dodges like JoeInky says, it should be difficult for you to get hit between air dodges.

Of course the ideal case would be to try it in local multiplayer and have a human try to hit someone spamming air dodge, but it would be harder to find people willing to do this who actually have two Japanese 3DS's.

I wish they would lower the XL price if they're trying to run through stick as the gamestop conference shows . I would buy one and then the New 3DS if so .

I don't think the audiences for the two games are all that different. Particularly, people dedicated enough to actually own a Wii U are probably also the kind of people that want to get the 3DS version as well, just to play early. Granted, blanket statements like that are probably not all the accurate, more like my complete guess.

But having a specific date mentioned and even hyped up wouldn't really change anything. The Wii U version is known and already assumed to be in November. Calling it November 24rd wouldn't make people wait that weren't already planning to wait, imo.

Early sales are REALLY rare in the US, the only places that tend to do it are either small personally-owned game stores or if a department store screws up. And the second basically never happens anymore.

Places get punished really harshly for breaking street date, especially on major games like this. Japan has street dates break a lot more than the US for sure.

Well considering there are like 5 times as many 3ds owned as Wii u owners I'm not sure how big of a deal it is.

A new thing that got added to smash 4.

If you hit someone with a meteor attack, they'll shoot downwards and if they hit the ground, instead of just staying there like before they'll be shot back upwards.

The problem is that when the receiving opponent is on the ground, they get launched downwards for a small second before being popped up and they can tech the floor (press R whilst tumbling near the ground and you immediately get up) before actually being knocked up.

Now because meteor smashes generally have quite a long landing lag (Mario's Fair, Link's Dair, Megaman's Dair, DK's Fair and Dair etc), you can hit a grounded player with one of these moves and, if they time it right, they can instantly tech and punish you for successfully attacking them, which is a ridiculous decision if you ask me, because it makes these aerials pretty useless unless they're used off stage.

Nintendo can't afford to not have this out for Wii U by Christmas, let's be honest.

The team should do the best job they can in the time left and if something comes up post-release, well, it's 2014 so patching is an option.

I think meteor attacks were definitely intended to be used off stage, so that seems reasonable to me. If you use Jigglypuff rest or Falcon Punch and fail to KO your opponent, punishment is fair.

The release date for the WiiU version in America can't be anywhere after Black Friday, so it'll probably be around November 22nd (like with SM3DW and Link between Worlds last year, heck, the latter released after Christmas in Japan).

Well then, I guess they shouldn't release the 3DS version. That way, hype for the Wii U version doesn't deflate. Because people will think, "I already have Smash why am I gonna buy the Wii U version, it's the same thing right?"

I hope you can see what is wrong with what you said. Lol.

I'd say it's not unlikely that the West gets Smash U a week or two before Japan.

See; 3D World, ALBW, Yoshi's New Island, Mario Party 3DS etc

Yeah, Japan getting the handheld version first is hardly a surprise.
