Lucky you then.

has anyone called dibs on Larry yet?

Speedwagon

Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel. Yabuki turned off voice chat in Mario Kart races. True artists of their time.
I just sat on my bed for 10 minutes really depressed that Lucas got cut but I'm ok now. I'll still very much miss him but I'll get by.

Hey, you're my first opponent in the Super Bash Sisters. I feel for you; my brother's main in Brawl was Lucas. He will be missed.

Holy shit I just realized there are 15 freaking newcomers. Wow.

Do we have an unlock list yet? Like, how to unlock all the characters?

There's an incomplete one on reddit I found:

Falco: Beat Classic mode 1 time
Ness: Beat Classic mode 2 times
Lucina: Beat Classic mode with Marth
ROB:
Duck Hunt Dog: Beat Classic mode 8 times
Wario: Play 30 VS matches
Ganondorf: Beat Classic mode with Link
Jigglypuff: Beat Classic Mode with custom moves on
Doctor Mario: Beat Classic with Mario
Dark Pit: Beat Classic mode 3 times
Mr. Game and Watch: Beat Classic with Duck Hunt
Bowser Jr.: Beat Classic mode at level 7 or higher with Bowser

http://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/2g4dvs/ok_so_what_were_the_unlock_requirements_for_the/

Only one missing is ROB in the post (probably just not updated yet). There's a lot of requirements that are just flat out Classic Mode lol. I'm sure you can unlock everybody by playing VS matches, though, as well -- I'm just wondering what Wario's alternate method of unlocking is? It can't just be VS matches for him.

Got Confirmation Ganondorf's jumping stomp is unchanged from Brawl so no speed buff there. Still we got the following buffs:
uair is fast
fair is fast
fsmash is strong and has a nice hitbox
bair has range still
ftilt is fast
jab is really strong

...so I can't complain. I'm asking now to see if his aerial Flame Choke aka THE CHOKENDORF was given ledge grab properties similar to how it gained those properties in Project M. Dorf had no ups and didn't really have great Side recovery so having recovery on The Chokendorf was very useful. Here's hoping he has that for recovery. If not...at least he got BEAST buffs.

If for some reason the extra characters on the Wii U version pans out, here's how I can see it working:

- SSB3DS owners can link to SSBWii U and unlock or download the characters for free.

- SSB3DS only players can purchase the characters separately in a small pack for a certain fee.

I could see this working but my stance with rumors is pretty much sticking with 51 characters (as we already knew) and expecting nothing more.

So the custom moves are mostly unlockable? (As per a recent pic of the day?)

I hope they're not totally random like trophies or stickers were. Would be annoying to unlock.
Unfortunately they are random. Unless I'm mistaken, I saw a character go through Classic Mode and they accumulated prizes including red icons for Bowser and Yoshi which are supposed to be custom moves. The player was Sonic.

And speaking of Little Mac alts, I guess it's true that there's 8 Wireframe Macs. I remember seeing Wireframe Mac wearing yellow shorts in a match.

Does it say if his utilt is still useless?

Rob is 70 VS matches. I think it's presumed that finishing classic with everyone is also an option, but idk if it's been verified.

Because the release date stopped people from getting a copy early, or something?

First time I've heard of that.

I know with pokemon people haven't been able to exploit the system for perfect stats yet at the very least, which I assume would use similar methods as datamining (though this was at x/y's release, might've changed by now)

ROB is 70 vs matches, and I heard Wario was Multi Man Smash?

Do we have any good video of Wario by the way?

I guess I'll weigh in with my thoughts now that the dust is settling:

I'm really glad ROB is back. With Little Mac and Duck Hunt, that's a pretty nice trifecta of NES nostalgia. I never had any attachment to Ice Climbers or even Pit prior to their smash inclusions, but the three I mentioned above actually have some childhood memories tied to them, which is nice. I like the changes they gave to ROB as well. The fully charged laser looks properly intimidating now. I haven't seen his FS yet but I hear it's been changed. I'm happy with that because his original FS wasn't very useful.

I really like how Bowser Jr. was handled. From the final smash to the moveset to all the koopaling alts (I will be using Ludwig) the character was executed impeccably. I'm really excited to see their custom moves too.

Duck Hunt Dog (I like the name better with dog on the end, sorry) is just what everyone else has been saying: Banjo-Kazooie. I love the dynamic with the dog and ducks and they're really adorable to just watch move around. The final smash is brilliant for the inclusion of the dog laughing. If it weren't for the leak, I think seeing Duck hunt dog show up unexpectedly would have destroyed this thread last night. I really think that leak is the cause of much disappointment right now. Without it, duck hunt dog would have been an amazing surprise.

I like Wario's new character model a lot. He looks a little more sinister which is good for him. Haven't seen him in action yet though.

Dark Pit... Eh, my only real disappointment. Dr. Mario and Lucina are fine by me because Lucina makes sense as a clone and Dr. Mario is a returning fan favorite with a slightly different moveset anyway, but there's really no reason Dark Pit shouldn't just be an alt color like Dark Link. I get that he was probably a quick way to add a character, but it almost feels like cheating.

I guess I'll rank newcomers, trying not to let the newness of duck hunt and Bowser Jr cloud my judgment. I am considering how much I like the characters outside of smash as well as how well they were implemented in the game.

1) Little Mac
2) Duck Hunt
3) Pac-Man
4) Rosalina & Luma
5) Bowser Jr & Koopalings
6) Villager
7) Mega Man
8) Greninja
9) Mii Fighters
10) Robin
11) Palutena
12) Wii Fit Trainer
13) Shulk
14) Lucina
15) Dark Pit

I'm hoping for DLC around the time of Wii U release :)

Doc isn't too far from Ganondorf and Falco, as far as uniqueness is concerned. He got the treatment he would have gotten had he been in Brawl and was mildly "de-cloned"

Why do you want less characters for no gain what so ever?

If I had it my way, Fox would be the only StarFox character on the selection screen and Falco and Wolf would be selectable as alts.

Obviously it wouldn't make sense for Ganondorf to be a Capt. Falcon alt, hence why he needs his own moveset. His clone moves could be reworked into another F-Zero character, like Black Bull, but that will never happen.

Fuck it, I'm just gonna put it out there:

(And I'm not saying this to troll fans or keep the hype up or whatever.)

I have a source who has been right about previous leaks and has worked on the European localization of the game. He says he has definitely seen moving models of Dixie, Ridley, Chorus Men and Mewtwo in the game and he's still confident that these four characters can be unlocked by linking the 3DS version to the Wii U version.

Now, I know how outlandish this sounds, and being a game journalist myself I'm taking this with a grain of salt myself, but we're talking about the guy who told me about the Bowser Jr. alts immediately after the ESRB leaks and has never been wrong about other stuff as well. Plus, the whole connectivity thing makes far too much sense, if only to get fans to buy both versions. *insert itprintsmoney.gif here*

Again, I swear on my soul that I'm not trolling. Time will tell. I thought Ridley was never gonna be in, but hey.

Combining Sakurai's madness for content with the ability to sync up both versions and more incentive to purchase both versions is just crazy enough to work. Not to mention 3 of those characters would satisfy so many different people based on past games and how much they are requested. That's the kind of thing that could inject more hype into the the wii u version release after the 3ds version is already out and we think we know all the characters. With the DLC they've been doing recently for other games we would certainly not be shocked if there is DLC ahead of us and long term support.

Haha, giving everyone else a chance against you, right? ;)

I'm excited to find out if any of the custom moves are really worth it. Hopefully people find some cool uses for 'em.

Exactly, I may not like the game as much as PM, but I'm going to destroy so many people online with Dr. Mario and Ness.

Custom moves are shaping up to be one of the best additions to the series if you ask me, I can't wait to see if any of them have their own unique ATs, it's going to make the same 2 characters possibly play completely differently.

I mean, if you swapped all four specials on a character for custom ones, you practically have a melee-level clone right there and then, it's pretty exciting.

Less than 5000 posts to end this thread.

And this was created yesterday lol
I wonder if this thread will survive until tomorrow.

I'm gonna guess no. But it could slow down now that we have the roster confirmed, plus most of Japan is asleep.

Oooph, top 3 mains is so hard. Started competitive with brawl, got into melee (L cancels and wave dashes galore) because of Project M over the past year, so I'm not even sure where I lay any more.

I'll split this up into new comers and old timers.

True Main Predictions (Oldies)
1. Olimar
- My brawl main, even love him in P:M. Very excited to see what they've done, hopefully the whistle still has it's invincibility and thank god for a better recovery.
2. Shiek
- If the rumors of Shiek feeling like melee are true, it'll be impossible not to have a pocket one ready to switch up on matchups. Good god, just thinking about being a Dueling OLI-SHIEK main just makes me excited.
3. Jigglypuff
- Kind of a long shot, but easily my favorite Melee character next to Marth, it's hard not to hope she'll be viable again.

True Main Predictions (Newbies)
1. Shulk
- Is one of my favorite protaganists ever from one of my favorite RPG's ever. Spaces like marth but with a super technical, almost pikmin plucking like changeset. Yeah. Sounds amazing to me.
2. Villager
- Watching the demo streams, I can already feel the gyroid canceling and Fair/Bair antics of this wacky guy as my early favorite. Seems quick enough, love his pocket, love his mobility, love his ariels . . I hope we have a long road ahead of us.
3. Robin
- See #1 mainly here, I just love Fire Emblem (and subsequently Awakening) too much to not fall in love with the character. Can't believe we got Robin instead of Chrom! Hopefully he turns out to be exactly what he looks like; a viable Ness with great hand to hand options.

Overall, I just hope it feels like Project M in the way that I can legitimately use 3/4ths of the roster, no problem.

Okay I'm done, back to work.

(yeah right)
