I've been mainly using Bayonetta, Zero Suit Samus, and Kawaii Zelda. Been using a little of Inkling and Sheik as well.Who's everyone been gravitating towards?
Did anyone else cave in and pick up some amiibo for it like me
Picked up my copy of Smash Ultimate Thursday night 9pm launch, I literally played almost non-stop, unlocked all the characters already and now working on the Spirits in story mode.
I wish I could have gotten some new Amiibo's, I noticed the Amiibo situation in Canada seems very fucked up as usual. I've only seen Ridley out in the wild, I have that pre-ordered and got a pre-order in for the new Inkling Girl, both through BestBuy. No other pre-orders available, no news, EB Games got a re-stock of prior Smash series Amiibos and few Ridley's., no word on where and when for Wolf or Daisy which were supposed to release Dec 7, 2018 as a first wave to continue the Smash line for those of us who painstakingly collected them all from the prior waves , here we go again.
Next wave of new Amiibos hits in February I believe.
Its nice that as long as youre not a cib Amiibo hunter they arent region locked, I may have to import Wolf.I ended up buying toon link and sheik at gamestop since I missed them the first time around. What's odd is that they are Japanese amiibos to /shrug.
I see that trophies aren't a thing anymore in Ultimate but is there any way to see more info on Spirits?
I really liked the descriptions in Melee for the obscure characters.
https://www.ssbwiki.com/Trophy
"Due to the increasing number of universes represented in the game, as well as the sheer number of fighters in the game, developing trophies was deemed impractical and they were cut early in development. As such, trophies do not return in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, instead being replaced by Spirits as its successor, whose in-game concept is similar to that of the Stickers from Brawl. This makes Ultimate the first Smash Bros. game since the original where trophies do not appear. "
Is the single player worth it? I've never played smash before, but I dunno if it's worth buying it for SP only.
Thanks for the extensive reply. Appreciate it.Definitely have never got into Smash Bros before but this time around they have made an SP that is super addictive
- only a couple of characters are unlocked by default, rest need to be locked by playing SP (Classic Mode)
- to unlock them, you need to beat them. One new character appears after each new Vlassic completion
- the unlock fights can be tough, but if you fail you get to try again after a little while, once a shrine ifon appears on the menu
- this makes unlocking supe satisfying
- SP mode has also a dynamic difficulty slider ranging from 0.1-9.9. As you win matches without losing it will get higher during your run
- you can pick yourself the starting difficuly
- the higher the difficulty the more rewards you get. Rewards include Spirits (kinda like trophies) and other unlockables
- there are also over 100 achievements that can be unlocked to show new art
- the SP mode also has two fun minigames to change the pace and give you points
So, basically
1. Character unlocks
2. Spirit unlocks
3. Achievement unlocks
4. Minigames
5. Dynamic difficulty
Make the SP very addictive. I played in bed fr 2 hours straight, had go to sleep when my hands started cramping
Thanks for the extensive reply. Appreciate it.
Is there a story to it as well? I mean is it a story mode too?
Oh so this is different to the mode you just described. What's the mode you're playing called?Pleasure! I haven't tried it but it seems that there is a big story mode:

Thanks a lot again.I'm playing the Classic mode. You basically pick a character, and then go through a curated set of stages and enemies (or groups of enemies) picked for said character. The enemies and stages tend to relate somehow to that character (e.g. DK would fight King K.Rool in the jungle).
If I recall correctly, it's around 6-8 of stages in total per character, with two bonus stages. Very similar to Street Fighter 2 campaign in structure, but no storytelling involved.

Smash debut sales looking to be 1.3 million in Japan for the weekend according to Famitsu.

As a noob I’ve been using Kirby, Zero Suit Samus and Marth so far. They seem the easiest for me to play so far. I only have 30 characters unlocked so far though.

In Classic Mode the opponents you fight 'fit' the character. There aren't any story sequences, just some text on the character select page and then you fight a predefined set of opponents stage by stage.
For example, the Wii Fit Trainer fights round characters to get them in shape and the progression is called something like "Aerobic Smash".
Also, the bosses in Classic Mode are mixed up sometimes so instead of everyone fighting Master Hand/Crazy Hand certain characters fight special bosses. Bowser's boss fight is funny because of the special boss.
Doesn't the moves list give an idea of the strengths and weaknesses? Is there a decent resource for tips on how to play specific characters?
I'd like to get better with a few characters that I like, but I'm quite bad with fighters in general.

I was wondering if there's any point to that too. I've been skipping it ever since doing it the first time.hey what's the uh deal with the SHMUP where you shoot at credits at the end of Classic Mode? do you keep those points or a percentage of them? seems like more points than you get for the actual battles. wtf?

Also: Hot Tip for World of Light Dr. Wiley legendary spirit fight.
You need the Metal Killer spirit...like NEED it. I cheesed the fight hard with DK down special with metal killer attached. The metal mega mans can't get off any attacks.
As you shoot the credits, it builds up a meter at the bottom of the screen. If you make it to the end of the meter, you get prizes...such as items to level up spirits and such. You may get more gold too, but I can't remember.

Is that a lot? 1.23 million? What did U do?
Edit: nm it says highest opening for both Switch and the series, but not by how much. 278,313 Switches to go with it too.
Man, I'm still unlocking characters. There's 73 correct? Puts me at 9 more to go. Is there any way to force the rematches to pop up reliably? Usually I just do a round of classic mode and they pop back up afterwards, but it doesn't always work.
My head is still in Sm4sh though. I keep doing things that don't work in this game.
