Did anyone else cave in and pick up some amiibo for it like me :messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying:

Picked up my copy of Smash Ultimate Thursday night 9pm launch, I literally played almost non-stop, unlocked all the characters already and now working on the Spirits in story mode.

I wish I could have gotten some new Amiibo's, I noticed the Amiibo situation in Canada seems very fucked up as usual. I've only seen Ridley out in the wild, I have that pre-ordered and got a pre-order in for the new Inkling Girl, both through BestBuy. No other pre-orders available, no news, EB Games got a re-stock of prior Smash series Amiibos and few Ridley's., no word on where and when for Wolf or Daisy which were supposed to release Dec 7, 2018 as a first wave to continue the Smash line for those of us who painstakingly collected them all from the prior waves , here we go again.

Next wave of new Amiibos hits in February I believe.

I ended up buying toon link and sheik at gamestop since I missed them the first time around. What's odd is that they are Japanese amiibos to /shrug.

As a noob I’ve been using Kirby, Zero Suit Samus and Marth so far. They seem the easiest for me to play so far. I only have 30 characters unlocked so far though.

ok its taken me a while but im finally starting to grok the whole World of Light and Spirits stuff. i got to a fight where there were bombs dropping every could of minutes, and it instantly kills me, so i suspect i've missed a Spirit or card or whatever somewhere along the map.

the game is a lot of fun. was playing with Sonic for a while, heavily abusing his spin dash. unlocked Bayonetta this evening and she's a lot of fun to fight with. it kind of makes me want to buy her games tbh.

I see that trophies aren't a thing anymore in Ultimate but is there any way to see more info on Spirits?
I really liked the descriptions in Melee for the obscure characters.

https://www.ssbwiki.com/Trophy
"Due to the increasing number of universes represented in the game, as well as the sheer number of fighters in the game, developing trophies was deemed impractical and they were cut early in development. As such, trophies do not return in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, instead being replaced by Spirits as its successor, whose in-game concept is similar to that of the Stickers from Brawl. This makes Ultimate the first Smash Bros. game since the original where trophies do not appear. "

I hadn't followed this game at all so I wasn't aware they dumped trophies. Unlocking those was the most enjoyable part of SP for me... These stickers aren't even new art. Oh well, at least I now know this before I eventually pick it up. :messenger_mr_smith_who_are_you_going_to_call:

I'm spending most my time with Kirby and Lucario. Kirby gets the job done but I get a bit bored playing only playing as him and I love Pokemon! I will try my darnedest to learn Isabelle once I unlock her~

Hi guys,
Just got Smash. Unlocked all characters. It'll be my first Smash game that i'll take more seriously. Go the Wii U one but never really played it much. I had to learn how to play again lol.

EDIT: Oh, and so far I like Link and Cloud.

Is the single player worth it? I've never played smash before, but I dunno if it's worth buying it for SP only.

Definitely have never got into Smash Bros before but this time around they have made an SP that is super addictive

- only a couple of characters are unlocked by default, rest need to be locked by playing SP (Classic Mode)
- to unlock them, you need to beat them. One new character appears after each new Classic completion
- the unlock fights can be tough, but if you fail you get to try again after a little while, once a shrine icon appears on the menu
- this makes unlocking super satisfying
- SP mode has also a dynamic difficulty slider ranging from 0.1-9.9. As you win matches without losing it will get higher during your run
- you can pick yourself the starting difficuly
- the higher the difficulty the more rewards you get. Rewards include Spirits (kinda like trophies) and other unlockables
- there are also over 100 achievements that can be unlocked to show new art
- the SP mode also has two fun minigames to change the pace and give you points

So, basically

1. Character unlocks
2. Spirit unlocks
3. Achievement unlocks
4. Minigames
5. Dynamic difficulty

Make the SP very addictive. I played in bed fr 2 hours straight, had go to sleep when my hands started cramping :D

Thanks for the extensive reply. Appreciate it.

Is there a story to it as well? I mean is it a story mode too?

Oh so this is different to the mode you just described. What's the mode you're playing called?

I'm playing the Classic mode. You basically pick a character, and then go through a curated set of stages and enemies (or groups of enemies) picked for said character. The enemies and stages tend to relate somehow to that character (e.g. DK would fight King K.Rool in the jungle).

If I recall correctly, it's around 6-8 of stages in total per character, with two bonus stages. Very similar to Street Fighter 2 campaign in structure, but no storytelling involved.

As someone who is new I have been getting a lot of game time out of it. Even if I were stop playing after unlocking everything I feel I will have gotten my money’s worth by that point. It is one of the more content packed fighters I have played.

In Classic Mode the opponents you fight 'fit' the character. There aren't any story sequences, just some text on the character select page and then you fight a predefined set of opponents stage by stage.

For example, the Wii Fit Trainer fights round characters to get them in shape and the progression is called something like "Aerobic Smash".

Also, the bosses in Classic Mode are mixed up sometimes so instead of everyone fighting Master Hand/Crazy Hand certain characters fight special bosses. Bowser's boss fight is funny because of the special boss.

I've yet to get to Bayonetta, but Samus, Kirby and Mario seem great so far.

Fox is worst character ever. Dropped four times off the platform during a single Classic run

Ryu's is amazing because they recreate Street Fighter II using substitutes. Starts with Ryu vs Ken but you also get to fight a Green Donkey Kong that is supposed to be Blanka, Incineroar for Zangief, etc.

^yes love how cheeky they are being mixing up the franchises. there's a mission with a dark Dr. Mario and a giant Rob the Robot that is poking fun at Metal Gear.

loving the Villager rn. that tree stump hadouken is so nice. the balloon jump has saved my butt a few times too.

Is there a decent resource for tips on how to play specific characters?

I'd like to get better with a few characters that I like, but I'm quite bad with fighters in general.

Doesn't the moves list give an idea of the strengths and weaknesses?

Hey everyone! I'm sorry that I'm just now replying, and I still need to read over everything I missed. Work has been super busy, so I haven't been able to really get into online play or anything yet. I FINALLY unlocked all the characters, and am ready to dive in on finding which of them I play better with than others.

As far as who I plan on playing, I hope to get really good with Samus and Ridley. :)

Also, I added a couple of helpful videos to the original post:

hey what's the uh deal with the SHMUP where you shoot at credits at the end of Classic Mode? do you keep those points or a percentage of them? seems like more points than you get for the actual battles. wtf?

I was wondering if there's any point to that too. I've been skipping it ever since doing it the first time.

As you shoot the credits, it builds up a meter at the bottom of the screen. If you make it to the end of the meter, you get prizes...such as items to level up spirits and such. You may get more gold too, but I can't remember.

It took a long time, but I finally completed World of Light. It was pretty addictive for me. :)

First off, please buy the ethernet adapter. It makes everyone's life easier lol. Second, did they actually fix the unlocking character glitch? I was wondering if they were going to leave it in or not.

And my mains are still the same:

Kirby
Dedede
Mega Man

People I like to try using:

Bayonetta
Pac man
Villager

Better trick for this one is to use Ness or Lucas to heal when the megas shoot you with their berms

Hell combine the 2 for great effect

so you are able to use prizes won from Classic Mode SHMUP in the Adventure Mode? if so that is awesome!

loving this game so much. just trying all the characters out is fun. defeated Ganon in a really fun battle with Link tonight. Zelda was fighting alongside, which was really cool! it is cool how they use the various modes to restage these semi canonical battles.

i love how deceptively simple the controls are. this is something that always turned me off from fighting games, mastering all the complex button combinations. here you can do all the special moves with a single button press & analog stick. it's more cerebral this way, everyone has access to all the moves right away. it's entirely down to how you use them. so positioning becomes important, timing becomes important. in a way it's almost as much a platformer as it is a fighting game.

goddamn the graphics are nice in this. this is why i bought the Switch, Nintendo can take something that isn't even as powerful as the current tech and still do incredible art design w it. <3

Man, I'm still unlocking characters. There's 73 correct? Puts me at 9 more to go. Is there any way to force the rematches to pop up reliably? Usually I just do a round of classic mode and they pop back up afterwards, but it doesn't always work.

If it helps, playing on easy through World of Life eventually makes it WAY easier to defeat each of the characters to unlock them...because you get to keep the special powers you have equipped through spirits. I ended up doing this for the last half of the characters.

I ended up shredding my way through World of Life with Captain Falcon equipped with "Giant Killer", along with three power enhancing spirits.

When you defeat Dracula through the Castlevania section closer to the end of the game, you can level up the captured Dracula spirit to level 99 and then transform him into Soma Cruz, who has "Giant Killer." This starts him over again at level 1, but once I leveled him up to 99, he alone applied over 13,000 to my power level. With the other spirits combined, my overall spirit power was over 16,000. :)

Sakurai nerfed my falcon combos... I feel like I have to work twice as hard to get kills with him now. I'm sure it'll just be a case of relearning what works. But right now I feel weak compared to most of the roster. I'm going to Master him again though and hopefully whomp my chums, and local tourneys.

My head is still in Sm4sh though. I keep doing things that don't work in this game. Aside from Captain Falcon... Love playing Roy, and I'll be training with Killager again.

I absolutely keep having the same issues...especially when playing as Wii Fit Trainer!!! All my old tricks no longer work...and I end up just accidentally sending myself to my doom. I really have to get used to the massive differences with air dodge.

Oh, and here is an interesting video I found!

Oh! Before I forget again...would everyone like if I added a section in the first post that shared everyone's friend code with their name and NeoGaf icon, as well as what their in-game name is so we can recognize everyone? Mine's easy, as it is just my own name and a Mii that looks like me, but I honestly have no idea who some people are that have sent me friend requests.
