I don't know if you guys remember DarksydePhil, but he got laid off last week and has decided his new full-time job will be making youtube videos. Besides gaming playthroughs, he plans to make daily lifestyle videos and has launched a series of cooking tutorials and fast food reviews. It's an interesting experiment and I'm no fan of his, but gotta admire the hustle :lol

Wow he got laid off? Liked his move stuff.

A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do to get some bread and water, son. There's nothing wrong with that. I for one will vote, comment and participate by clicking on ads. It's the least I can do for the countless (300+) hours of entertainment I've got from him.

I watched his playthroughs of a lot of game. Recently Limbo after finding out those avatars people had was a xbox game. Highly entertaining, DSP is horrible with puzzles so I tried to figure out the puzzle as he was experiencing it. Most likely I had it before him, free game and laughs.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?

So don't forget to vote, comment and participate if you still wants his work on Youtube :). And not to derail it any more further, here's some EXCELLENT (j/k, he's more terrible than EVER now) SSFIV footage from DSP:

(keeps going for 28 more parts). He's a good Hakkan, but then again, what do I know? Haven't seen a good one since Daigo played him :lol

I'm going to ironically love this series. I read about 30 fine dining blogs so this is quite a hilarious change of pace :lol

for the love of god please bring back player matches. There's not enough 1 on 1 matches online and the one's I start takes forever for someone to join in. Ugh,.

What did he do before?

(I'm watching his laid off video and it's 17 minutes long @_@)

Man, the comments on that Daigo/Wildcat vid are proof that people take tiers too seriously.

I think a lot of people still haven't reconciled with the concept of a fighting game where the lower tiers actually have a fighting chance. Dudes need to go back and play Marvel or ST sometime.

fuuuuuuuck, and I finally started playing ranked for this? How do people get 20k+ points?

It's crazy how much of a points hit you get once you reach 5,000 BP. I don't know how people get that high with such a big penalty for losing. I'd be thrilled just to reach 5,000. After that the scoring system is brutal.

Do you really only earn like 1 pp per win? Is your game set to play stronger opponents?
Above 5k(player points) things are really bad now. At the beginning it was great, finding people like arturo and the team spooky guys or cali folks that were trying to play online(well I was mostly kicked but it was great to see theem there and I got to play some mathes with some of them). Now, it's reaaally bad. It's really, really hard to find people with the same points as you, and almost impossible to find someone with more points. You could try to use the search and try to find people with the same PP as you and you won't find a thing for hours(believe me, I've tried). Hell, I have a 146 winning streak only because I couldn't find decent comp in like a month(and that made me quit online play for almost 3 months and do only local SF).

I almost got to 6k(before I quit), and now I'm sure I won't ever have the same points because I'm basically playing the same players(a "40 pool ranbat"), we all know each other and fight each other from time to time, but since we mostly have the same level we don't really earn points from each other, we just rotate the points. Also we don't like to boost so if anyone is at a clear disadvantage we help each other out in endless. It's almost like being stuck in G2 with a bunch of friends trying to get to G1, fighting lots of scrubs for almost no points and knowing that we will never make it to G1 because it's not even there.

I'm having the same experience on PSN, only that it sucks even more because connections are worse than XBL connection. I got to 4k PP in THREE DAYS using only blanka and rushing down hundreds of kens(at one point I fought 42 kens one after another, I shit you not) that were using lag tactics but couldn't block properly a crossup. And now I'm at the same spot as on XBL but with less points, even less players and of course, worse connections(powerpoint style gaming ftl).

The scoring system is just... meh. +1PP for each win and -128PP for each lose against 95% of all the opponents online. I got to 5.5K a couple of weeks ago and was doing fine but 4 loses and I was back to 5k... then I was like "OK, I wanna try gief" and ended up with 3.8K PP(but my crappy gief is almost at 2kBP!). I'm now at around 4.5 K and after 27 marches earning just 1PP per match I just don't see the point anymore. I will probably play ranked only when I can see friends playing there tho.

Long story short, ranked sucks really, really hard now for me and I reaaally miss championship mode.

I think you're talking about BP, not PP here. If you're not, then it's boosting. People have many accounts and earn points in one account to lose them against other "main" account. At first I didn't believed it, but met some guys that did it some time ago and I posted about it here(but people here called me the new zlatko, lolz). It's really easy if you have the resources. So far I've seen it a lot more on PSN tho(guys with tons of PP using their mains with tons of BP and losing really, really bad against my scrubby alts).

I hit 5115 BP with my Sagat... and I figured it wouldn't get any better than a palindrome over five thousand, so I quit playing Ranked with my Sagat. :D

I decided to stop playing rank when i hit over 3k PP, and around B with Dictator. Then after a huge break from the game, i thought I'd go back and play rank, slightly rusty, but it was annoying to see "green bars" but have complete lag, and at other times when i was in the lead, magical lag appeared :lol

Got so upset when i lost to an absolutely terrible T-Hawk player, my first ever loss to one, which i was playing great at the start but execution errors cost me it big time. Kept getting PC instead of DR, PC instead of HS, PC instead of EX PC and so on... From that, kept eating command grabs, supers, ultras. :lol

Real ragey from losing to that T.Hawk player which cost me about 100PP+, i kept at it and went down to 2300PP in the process. Took a break for a few days, and next time i played, shoved it to more skilled opponents, and got back to 3k PP almost instantly.

Now I've stopped getting so ragey and despite win or loss in rank, i only have a few games here and there after watching my replays. More ranked matches i had, the worse i played and just didn't think. Some real laughable losses that show why i got so pissed off during some matches though, such as; Blanka Ultra 1, had barely no health, he was going for chip, i decided to teleport to the other side....but teleport back into it :lol

I play a decent Bison and an assortment of other chars that I like to have fun with.

EDIT: Ugh, how does anyone play online in the states? It drops so many inputs it's disgusting. Sucks for a charge character which means you now have like 3-4 seconds where you can't input your command.

im at ~8K BP with my Sagat but yeah not sure how people get like 20K. It feels like I play a lot but I guess I dont in comparison.

i'm an idiot... wanted some bedtime games where i just rush down mindlessly. of course i get my ass handed to me by this guy player so i just kept joining him and grew closer and more alert with each game. finally get a few nice wins on him but now i'm wide awake and have an early meeting to get up for. i've had losing gambling streaks that feel better than getting hooked on this game online.

I can relate to this. All too often I used to stay up too late playing and I'd go into work the next morning feeling beat.

But I got laid off last week so I don't have to worry about that too much for the time being.

:(

I've had so many crazy long online sessions that start off with the idea that I'm only going to play for 30 minutes or so. Then I start losing, and then lose some more. I win some some, but I don't feel content until I gain back all my BP. Now the BP isn't important to me, it's the goal that important to me. I want to get back to a certain point to make myself feel better for losing before. Then I lose to some guy a few times and keep trying to go back for revenge, I may or may not get it. But then I finally tell myself I have to stop. When I finally do I see that my 30 minute session turned into 4-5 hours.

This is exactly why I normally only turn SSF4 to go into training mode. I try to avoid online because I'll get sucked in for a much longer period then what I originally planned. Even training mode can take away a lot of my time. I've been late to me meetings with friends a number of times because of it.

I only drink on special occasions. Like weddings. So when you getting married? You know I have family around that area. Pflugerville. My cousin is supposed to get married pretty soon. My god! She's younger than me. I feel so old.

I lol'd, but the only real problem though was that he mashed out the EX Shoryu too early, right? Got grabbed as the invincibility ran out.

is it really necessary to do so much taunting D: i miss 3s when people had the balls to taunt right in your face and they couldn't mash out of it

I think GG had the best middle ground where you could choose to legitimately taunt (uncancelable) or toss out a respect (cancelable).
3S taunts were mostly uncancelable because they actually buffed your character.

I am not good at this game at all. I tried to play online and lost every match but one. :lol
Oh well, I wasn't expecting to win, I just wanted to try and see how the online mode would work.

Even though I lost a lot, I had a lot of fun. I do hope to get at least a little better with Vega.

Ok, so if Ranked is as pointless as you guys say after you hit B rank, then I really need to decide on a secondary character. I want it to be a charge character so that I get used to what those players have to deal with, but I can't decide.

I really like Vega's style, and I think he has the best voice samples, but I don't know if I want to play two rushdown characters, since I'm not sure it covers my matchups.

The other charge character I'm looking at is Balrog, since he's got a very different playstyle than Dudley and I'll get some good experience from that perspective. At the same time, being a boxer specialist is kinda weird, and it's almost like betraying Duds.
