SUPERBEAT: XONiC |OT| Back to The DJMAX Roots - Now on PS4/XB1!

I had no issues doing Souls of Vampire with a 40+ shield, and you unlock it so late, you'll probably end up grinding other songs anyways. I ended up listing it cause it worked out pretty well for me.

Ok, this game is awesome, and really really fun, tracklist is great too, it was weird at first, but once it clicked, oh man...best rhythm game i played in a while.

It really feels like going back to the first DJ Max titles.

Oh god, the Normal mission on the 2nd to last World Tour stage is FRUSTRATING. I'm gonna have to give in & use an extremely high Break Shield without the benefit of EXP bonus.

Only 4 more missions left. Kind of feel like the last set of missions should've been unlocked a bit later instead of at
55
which kind of feels a bit low.

UUGGGHHH, used a 60 break shield & only got 86%. How the freakin' hell am I gonna get 95%?! This should've been in the damn final stage....& NOT Normal.

Is that the one where you need 95% on 5 songs? That one seems way harder than the other missions in that stage.

Yes, it is. & the first two songs are BRUTAL. At least with the 95% judgment mission on the final stage, it's only THREE. That mission should've easily been the Hard on the final stage.

I'm starting to wonder if using the analog sticks makes it harder due to the speed to which you have to switch between them & the buttons/d-pad & the weirdness of using one analog stick while the other hand is trying to use buttons.

& for those who haven't unlocked it yet, you have to get 95% on THESE, all on 6Trax:

- Voodoo Groo
- Matador
- March of Fear
- Stargazer
- Dimension Detonator

Food for thought. How many of the classic DJMAX (as in, the online service, pre-Portable) tracks do you remember that don't have BGA?

Genuinely curious as to whether people form stronger associations/differentiation when there's visual stimulus and a story to go with each piece of music.

edit: Well, that's kind of a stupid question. Of course people do. I guess a better way to phrase it is, how much value does BGA add?

Honestly, I had no access to DJMAX pre-Portable, so there's not much I can say about the original Online tracks.

I can talk about my experience with Cytus as a different game with no BGAs, though. It's not the deepest game by a long shot, but I kept coming back to it and buying the new updates because every track sounded like it was chosen to be memorable. Nothing revolutionary, but nothing sounded cheap and they never overrelied on any artists.

The game still relied on icons and illustrations to tell a different story for each song, and I think this was just as effective as BGAs in some cases. In the latest updates, there are now whole packs dedicated to expanding on the story of a single song.

(The very latest update has a double-priced pack based on the highest-difficulty track in the game. Every song in this pack is twice as long as usual, orchestrated, and has the same maxed-out difficulty.)

So, yes, I think Xonic's tracks can be as memorable as DJMAX's even with no BGAs. What they have to work with can go a long way.

It seems some users on twitter are trying to get the "minimum score" to finish each song, so you don't have to go through the entire mission for a defeat. it's worth to try.

Fair enough. Cytus' music selection is ace.

Oh thank goodness, this should make it a bit more tolerable to figure out if I should bother continuing. Looks like they haven't been able to figure out the score yet. Feel like 90% would've been a bit more tolerable.

Only other missions left are Extra WAVE (which actually is 90% & only 3 songs. Wonder if there's a chart for that) & Eguchi WAVE (which oh god, SO MANY NOTES AND THE ONE SONG TO REQUIRE PRESSING ALL THREE BUTTONS AT THE SAME TIME).

Edit: on Extra Wave: 50850 (1st), 70,650 (2nd, total of 121,500), & 49,450 (3rd, total of 170,950) with full combo (20 break shield), resulted in 91% & passing the mission. TWO MORE!

Man.. the judgement seems kinda strict sometimes. I'm going through songs in Free Style to get S+ or S++ rank.

I usually get better after a few plays. But for some reason, for Peach Fuzz 6T I keep getting low 90%'s no matter what. The song has an easy to follow rhythm and the chart matches fine. Final Score I usually get is around 29400 for an S. But I see another person got it with 30900 and get a S+. With 50 point difference for Good and Super Beat, that like 30 non Super Beat hits. For a song with 1300 combo, 30 non Super Beat hits is enough to drop my judgement by 5%?

EDIT: After reading the above, don't think I can get the Platinum unlike Technika Tune. 95% on those songs, is just not possible for me.

Interesting. From what I've played on Hard, I kind of felt that the judgement was actually pretty lenient. Coming from P4D, I'm pretty scared to miss any note since that game punishes the player hard for every miss, so when I miss a bunch and I end up getting S or S+ at the end of a song, I'm rather surprised.

Don't you think less than a week is a little quick to pass judgement on your taper-off point in a music game? ;p

What speed are you playing at btw?

Well it is strange. In some songs, I feel like I got Super Beat even if I missed it by a few milliseconds. But sometimes, I feel like I hit it correctly yet I got a Good.

Playing on a Vita so no TV lag. Also with headphones.

Yeah maybe so.

Playing 2 or 2.5.

I am reasonably sure that, like O2Jam, DJMAX, etc, the timing window is relative to fractions of a measure, rather than absolute time, making it harder to Superbeat e.g. Heavy Day vs Morning Calm. If so, there may be outlier songs that e.g. are 90BPM compositionwise, but internally in the game are double speed to 180 which would mess with the 'expected' timing windows.

Yeah maybe so.

Playing 2 to 2.5.

2.5 is currently my sweet spot. Hoping to push it to 3 eventually. The difference going from 1 to 1.5 to 2 to 2.5 has been significantly measurable in improving judgement.

2.5 is my main speed. I might drop it or increase it by .5 depending on the song/how many notes are really close together.

Also crap, it's a bit confusing knowing which songs I have unlocked in Freestyle because I see the score in the arcade mode, but then the pattern isn't unlocked for free play. I was just playing songs that had no score because I figured those were the ones that were left to unlock.

What finger/thumb does everyone use to flick the sticks? I've been playing this on and off since it released and I still hate using the sicks. Maybe I need to put more time in for it to click, but I'm so bad at flicking while there is a ton of stuff going on at once.

Anyone planning to set up a GAF competition for this? It'd be neat to see how people score amongst each other here though, looking at this:
yay
XYmlK03.jpg
I probably wouldn't do that well, relatively.

I use my thumbs. I'm getting a bit more used to it, but it's still a rather unpleasant input, especially when I need to hold the sticks and alternate directions.

So there's nothing to speed up the process of 99,999 combo like in DJMAX with getting the multipliers? Least there's some really high break shields this time around.

Also, is it just me, or did leveling up get a lot harder after Level 80? Even on Hard & with 160% EXP, it's taking about 5-6 songs to level up now.

Making huge progress after lots of practice. I switched to touch screen and the game works so much better for me. I was checking the site and see that the OST is sold out I was wondering if anyone knows if they plan on releasing the OST as a digital download because I'd like to buy the soundtrack it's pretty amazing.

I actually have graphics prepared to do this in the future, but I figured I would wait until the DLC schedule is known so there could be prizes.

Been playing a lot this past week. I'm still on 4T but will be switching to 6T very soon, where I expect to get overwhelmed very quickly as I'm kinda hitting that point in 4T already.

I'm probably gonna have to give it a break for a few days, though, since I've been playing it more than expected instead of playing other games!

Yeah, it feels very awkward to me and it is actually dulling my interest in playing.

I think I'll give touch controls a try tonight and see if it feels/works any better for me.

I honestly can't play the game with the buttons I find I lose my place all the time and miss a lot. When I switched to touch I was able to clear almost everything with a good score and I'm only getting better. At first the touch controls felt a bit odd but once I found a good spot for my hands it all clicked so well.

It just feels easier especially with the swipe buttons I found doing those with the buttons really messed me up and using the touch swiping is so much easier since your hands are already there and you don't really have to take your hands off anything and put them back on the buttons.

I tried touch controls but after about 20 seconds, I switched back. Maybe I should give it another attempt & see if I can master it to give the final 2 missions I need to clear another go.

Level 87, all 4Trax patterns clearned. It was a pain realizing that I actually didn't unlock some songs for Freestyle at all despite there being a score. Probably will work on 6Trax now, playing on 4Trax is kind of boring now.

Still trying to figure out where the "Bang Vox" sound effect is hidden. My only guess is it's earned via leveling up, since it's not in World Tour from what I'm seeing.

Close to all the DJ icons (14 more) & SFX (4 more) but of course, one mission is a sound effect & the other is an icon, so beating each mission is required for 100% each.

Cleared everything on 6FX, Voodoo Gooroo can go fuck itself. Once my hands stop hurting, it's time to breeze through the rest of 4T and 6T.

Oh freakin' hell, I just discovered there's (World Tour spoilers)
ONE MORE STAGE which is unlocked via Level 60 & completing every other mission
. & it seems someone found the scores which got them 95% for 6 Eleven:

71,850
142,050
199,150
266,050
340,200

So frustrating I'm actually close to completing all the missions this time around compared to the DJMAX games, but jeeezzzz, talk about difficulty spikes.

Wow, I was completely unaware of this game's existence. All the comparisons to the PSP DJMax games means I need to get this like right now.

Why did you start on hard? That's seems really frustrating when you are still adapting to the game.

Nope, I love it. I don't ascribe to the idea of slowly working one's way up to something. I will always start at the highest difficulty I can for a game like this; jumping into the pool without testing the waters.

Hard is only for those who are able to full combo stuff &/or have a good shield break DJ (you unlock one via World Tour that can take a whopping 60 notes before breaking your combo...but based on some songs, it might not be enough). It's more of a reminder to get better & that you weren't gonna get a good rating on the song anyways/pass the requirements for the World Tour mission, i.e. getting ##% judgment. Because Hard will basically fail you if you miss about 3 notes in a row & can't rebuild yourself up.

I should drop down to Normal to see how much EXP I'll still earn, Hard is pretty much doing nothing now.

I was doing well on Hard, but then some World Tour conditions started becoming rather difficult for me and I had to look into the DJ stuff. That's when I discovered just how crazy Shield Break is as a concept. It doesn't erase your Fever gauge, it keeps your combo going and it doesn't damage your power gauge? That's powerful stuff.

There are DJs who have both a Break Shield AND Fever Shield. Like I said, there's one to unlock that has 60 EACH, though that's serious overkill for Fever.

I don't think I would be able to clear any of the harder tracks on 6FX (other than Stargazer) on hard mode lol. I break way too much, and it doesn't help that my L button is kinda shit.

Yeah, same. I'm still struggling with 10+ bar 6Trax songs. Can't even fathom beating some 6FX tracks without like 3 breaks in a row yet.

The manual says that a DJ's "Recovery" property pertains to the "Groove meter," but there is no Groove meter. I'm guessing that just means the power gauge.

Yeah, it's the power gauge.

The one time I care about my position on a leaderboard and my score won't update
I see some changes so it is working for some people

I've been checking since last night
that was the last time my score updated

EDIT: updated
broke top ten local on 4trax
nice

On to 6trax

Just got the game today and am absolutely loving it. Great sound track, and tons of fun to play.

My only question is, how do I unlock the next set of stages in World Tour? I thought I'd played well enough to unlock, or do I need to be a higher level? I think I am currently level 8 or 9 atm.

They unlock as you level up. Next one you unlock is at level 10. I don't think you get any sort of notification that you unlocked a new stage in World Tour when you reach the appropriate level, so be sure to check back there every 5 levels or so.
