Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

I hate no other corporation in gaming as much as I hate Nintendo. Not Square, not even fucking Ubisoft because who gives a shit about them. They have some great creative people (just like square), but their whole management and executive branch can just fuck right off.

Nintendo ninjas taking the L. Half the internet has already leaked some sort of detail already. Just announce the announcement already.

I doubt this, why would Nintendo's lawyers go the booth instead of the company itself? and why would Genki get access to the Switch 2 to produce accessories for the Switch 2 without signing a NDA :pie_thinking:

They didn't. This happens all the time with iPhone cases too. They likely bribed someone within the supply chain to get the info.

The iPhone case manufacturers usually have the good sense to not make the product public until Apple announces...

the funny thing is,

genki announced before CES they would be there with switch 2 accessories. why didnt nintendo step in then.

JUST SHOW US THE SWITCH ALREADY.

People in this thread do realise it's not like a company just presses a button, there's a process, a timeline, and Nintendo needs to keep it up for their partners and themsevles.

I understand trying to protect IP, but at this point.. the cat is long since out of the bag, Nintendo. Just a waste of money and consumer goodwill.

The reason I'm not buying any consoles from them

I'm French and I've never heard of that "famous" video games journalist.
Also, why would Nintendo send people at the CES booth instead of their actual headquarters lol, this entire story makes no sense.

Genki built the success of their company creating Switch accessories, I personally supported a bunch of their kickstarts and have most of their products.
I don't understand the "we did nothing wrong we didn't sign an NDA".

I have never been involved in creating 3rd party hardware/accessories, but if Genki has hardware on site to build new accessories they very MUCH have an MSA in place with NOJ that restricts them from releasing information obtained from private sources (dev documentation, sdk's, etc).

No, you can be an unofficial accessory provider

How they got to base anything of their accessories on, is probably from CAD leaks of the switch 2 that happened months ago. They could still be wrong. But if Nintendo shows up there, it must mean that they're damn accurate.

Wasn't Nintendo saying wasn't real?

they said it wasn't official, and Genki then tried to get the target off their back by saying their stuff is based on rumours and leaks...

in reality all these accessory makers had access to data from leaked production samples, which is why they all have cases and even third party controllers and joycons ready lol

Ah, yeah I should have used the word "test" instead of build...just keying off the portion in the OP about them having hardware on site.

The only consumers knowing about all of this is like 0.005%.
This is the reality. Only people who are terminally online know and care about this.
How true is this, at all? It just takes one giant account on X™ to post about it to have thousands of normal people knowing about it.
Now, I don't know if that was the case with these leaks, but it's kind of delusional to think that these things cannot reach out to more mainstream audiences outside of weirdo forums.

I'm not a weirdo! I'm birdo.

Unless Elon Musk tweets about this, no one cares. Online is not real life.

C'mon Genki is clearly in the wrong here. A company has every right to control how a new product gets revealed.

Another delusional take. No, you don't need Elon Musk for something to go viral on X™. And no, you don't need to be online 24/7 to catch up on these kind of ""news"" if they happen to be spread out from big accounts.

Give me one account that can make this big. Not only that, make people care. Thing is, Switch 2 is prob not that much on people's radar, even the Apple leaks which are reported in media all the time don't make big headlines.

You need people to actually care about Switch 2 enough, and I don't think people do.

I actually might (somewhat) agree, I honestly don't know. This whole thing seems sketchy, I don't know how credible that french guy is to begin with and I don't know the details of this case, so I'm not going to say I'm "in favour" of any party here.

My initial point still stands, because me hating Nintendo is (partially) about them going after Emulators, Indie Devs, YouTubers and them being about as litigious as fucking Disney. Nintendo loves to use legal intimidation to keep smaller parties quiet - regardless of whether they're right or not - And they clearly don't care themselves if they're right often times. They just have the money and the ressources, so they can afford it. So, even if they should be in this case right, Nintendo is basically the boy who cries wolf (or rather, "presses charges") every single month.

There's a reason people are willing to believe this story, and Nintendo has to blame only themselves for that. Fuck them.

Plenty of them, I don't use X™ a lot so I don't care to remember their names.
You really think people wouldn't care about a first look to Nintendo's next console? It deosn't really matter if they didn't knew about the console beforehand (in response to the console not being that much on people's radar as you said), but the follow-up to a extremely popular product geting a look ahead of reveal is big internet material, and just hearing about it is a big deal in itself.
BTW, Apple leaks are *widely* known when they happen, people just won't make it as big of a deal as they happen just like a week before reveal. Every. Single. Year.

nintendo deserve it. they tried to milk another year of xmas sales. should've announced the Switch 2 months ago.

If only Nintendo had a time machine allowing them to know an accessory maker would show a mockup in early January, they could have quickly reacted to the knowledge and foregone all that business. Shame

They happen months in advance when apple reveals their products in Sep. People knew about M4 MacBooks and MiniMac 4-5 months in advance before they were revealed. Same with every new iPhone.

The general public just doesn't care, it's tech for them, until they see it in stores or Apple announces them and gives them a timeline to pre-order.

Maybe some people will care about the Switch, but it's really the software that sells it.

Was confused with the Apple timeline, gotcha.
I think you're overestimating the amount of people I mention and at the same time, underestimating the reach these leaks could get. Families, children, very casual gamers not knowing about it? Sure, but only 0.005% of consumers or terminally online people knowing about it? There's a single post about one of the Switch 2 ""leaks"" with over 4M views, the idea that only weirdo people could be aware of it doesn't make any sense.

Don't look too much into it, they were promoting products using Nintendo trademark without their permission. It's obvious Nintendo is going after them the same way the would for anyone else

For every one of these new lawsuit news drops, I'm going to delay my Switch 2 purchase a month.
How many months am I up to? 7?

It might be of consequence of a certain small part of the audience, but shit that gets posted on Twitter is usually not of consequence for a product launch. The things that got leaked, Nintendo's competitors already knew long before. And Nintendo themselves knew that this would get leaked. And "controlling" the marketing message for the masses is still easily doable. I rather think that Nintendo's marketing departments are pretty happy about it because it generates hype (again, to a limited audience) without them having to do anything.

The Genki situation is probably more a case of "IP/trademark protection", since Genki used Nintendo's logos and stuff without official permission, it seems like.
