Switch 2 Leak Drama: Nintendo's lawyers/ninjas confronted Genki in Vegas

agree.

it makes no sense for the legal team to show up in person when they would just send a letter. And if did happen, why didnt he record it?
If they are not an authorized third party, perhaps the lawyers wanted to show up to collect evidence/take photos? Kinda catch Genki red handed in the act? If the equipment is designed around leaks perhaps there was a need to see what exactly the company was showing off and what information could be gleaned from it. Although it seems nobody has confirmed what the c-button does as far as I know. Just pure speculation on my part. Maybe due to the legal nature of the inquisition, cameras were not allowed to film the transaction.

These people cannot even try anymore. Nintendo doesn't release anything on Mondays, why would they just to meet some dumb 8th anniversary of the previous console?

It might be of consequence of a certain small part of the audience, but shit that gets posted on Twitter is usually not of consequence for a product launch. The things that got leaked, Nintendo's competitors already knew long before. And Nintendo themselves knew that this would get leaked. And "controlling" the marketing message for the masses is still easily doable. I rather think that Nintendo's marketing departments are pretty happy about it because it generates hype (again, to a limited audience) without them having to do anything.

The Genki situation is probably more a case of "IP/trademark protection", since Genki used Nintendo's logos and stuff without official permission, it seems like.
Forgot to reply to this, I actually agree with it not really having many consequences for the actual product launch. But that's not what I was going for.

People think Nintendo is this cute company that makes Pokemans and games about a plumber, but they are one of the most anti-consumer, anti-community companies in the industry. Will never support their products again with the way they go after people for appreciating their stuff lol.

Yes they can... If it is emulating of course xD
wont make any difference.

Switch is a very underpowered hardware, currently we already have alot of PC handheld on the market with emulators, but switch sales are not slowing down.

Switch 2 will still sell like alot.

I think alot of people high overestimated the sales of these PC handhelds , i dont think they are going to take over the handheld market. Even steamdeck struggles to do so.

Someone wasn't around for Nintendo controlling 98% of the video game industry in the late 80s, when third parties started to refer to Yamauchi as Hitler.

I'm not sure why people are acting like it's not Nintendo's right to conduct business any way they want to, and decide themselves when they want to announce stuff, release stuff or whatever.

It's like people believe Nintendo games are public domain and they have a responsibility toward the gamers to give them anything they want, and are then upset when Nintendo keep Nintendoing.
Nintendo always bad, that's why. Also some people are just too anxious, insanely anxious like it's not healthy anymore, remember when we discussed about NX years ago? I guess it's something like that, and they need to channel the frustration somehow.

I mean Christ on a cracker, they literally hired a guy named BOWSER to run NA.

I think most people assumed this is some fancy 4D chess hype thing by Nintendo, now you are telling me then never knew Genki will leak it?

Nintendo has never had a history of elaborate viral marketing or playing 4D chess. They are a pretty straight forward company when dealing with PR.

Genki isn't an official partner. They don't work with Nintendo and so won't have signed an NDA.
That makes sense. The thing is, everyone knows that the Nu Switch is coming. Genki claims that they showed off a render; under the assumption that it wasn't official. Apparently Nintendo lawyers claim it is a leak?

This is true for all big corporations. Sony and Microsoft are just as anti-consumer. That's not a Nintendo-exclusive thing.

That being said, Amazon deserves a special place in hell for how they screw over their AWS customers. Never again.

Asus, Lenova or Steam can release a super powerful handheld but they won't have the Super Marios, Metroids, Smash Bros, Kirby, Zelda, Donkey Kong etc
on them to sell those systems. Guess who does........

Nintendo isn't afraid of anyone. They're well established of using the "blue ocean strategy" and march to their own beat; no one else's.

Yep, they can emulate all of those and they have the entire Steam library available. If Nintendo wasn't afraid they wouldn't have an army of laywers suing everyone. Don't see any other game companies doing that.

Yeah, seriously. Who would have thought that a company that sells stuff would give the customers what they want. We should just shut up and not ask any questions. right?

Why is it only Nintendo fans that act like brainwashed zealots? If they are such a great company why do they have to resort to using lawfare by suing people where they know that they can't beat in a legitimate court case, but also that their target doesn't have the money for a drawn out legal battle? No other game company would get away with a quarter of the shit that Nintendo does.

Just saying that i don't get how gamers get enrarged about the smallest things these days but Nintendo gets a free pass to act like complete jerks.

Genki won't have created their products if they weren't 100% sure about the system's size and dimensions.

Since they didn't get those details from Nintendo, they must have come from a leak.

I hate no other corporation in gaming as much as I hate Nintendo. Not Square, not even fucking Ubisoft because who gives a shit about them. They have some great creative people (just like square), but their whole management and executive branch can just fuck right off.
You need to get out more if you hate a company that much. It's simply not worth your time or effort.

You need to get out more if me hating something bothers you that much. Allthough it does seem to be all your time and effort is in fact worth.

I can't argue with that, I suppose. It seems like Genki didn't originally leak those images, though. They were already in circulation online before Genki put them on display at their CES booth.

They might not have leaked them originally, but they are still displaying them and Nintendo won't like that.

I think Nintendo is very afraid of showing the console, there are companies like Asus ROG Ally x or similar that are powerful... And of losing sales of the Nintendo Switch.
Nope. Nintendo doesn't care about specs. Not in the way you are describing. Switch sold 140+ million units with a 2015 mobile chipset. You're comparing apples and oranges. Switch 2 specs will be significantly improved from the original Switch, and using that as the point of comparison, it will be a generational leap in performance.

Mentioning enthusiast/ hobbyist high-end devices that cost $800+ that operate on Windows really serves no purpose. They cater to different tastes/needs.

If you want Nintendo games/ want your kids to have a family-friendly device that plays quality games you can play with your kids and plug into TV, you will get a Switch. Not to mention you're only spending likely $400. Also, Switch is primarily a secondary device, so it's not a situation of someone buys one and doesn't buy something high end at some point down the road for a different experience/need.

I doubt I am on here as much as you. But all power to you. Keep on hating a company that you have no real link with. By the way I do not hate you for doing this, I am just very puzzled by it.

I do think Nintendo are just trying to keep all the suspense up with moves like this, they love the old hype train which I remeber being very similar before the original Switch was revealed, Surely this is a much better situation than their build up to the Wii U....

I have no sympathy for Genki.

Even if their designs were just based on leaks, you simply don't show those designs off at CES.

Don't piss off the company that enables you to make most of your revenue. Truly idiotic.

Along with all those simply not legally and officially having the Nintendo library of software.

They are all significantly chunkier than a Switch with much worse battery life.

Even with somewhat similar X Y dimensions, the Switch can be made much more compact by carrying the joycons separately. It is also much lighter.

I would imagine any developer or accessory manufacturer would be under the instruction not to reveal any actual form details on the Switch unit. Pretty sure this company knew they were not doing the right thing with all this.

I love it when the marketing plans of corps get disrupted, especially when the marketing plan revolves around milking the consumer with old tech one more holiday season.

If you read it you wouldn't ask me that question. Have a good day.

lol...what article are you even talking about? There was a reddit post and youtube video in french. Now a tweet confirming Genki is getting sued and I ask you a simple question that you somehow get offended about.

Good day, indeed.

Genki violated copyright and should pay for it. Simple as that.

Let's be honest and frank here this has nothing to do with the "multibillion dollar corporate".

If you read just bits of the documents, it's pretty clear Genki fucked up, especially with the way they presented it.
They could've said "we expect something like this" or be a bit more vague, but they tried to be smartasses and ride the hype.
No one should be surprised that they now reap what they sow, or say that "Nintendo is being Nintendo here", come on.
