can someone tell me what this movie is about and why is it
supposedly so amazing?

Semi Spoilers................

Its about a samurai who is of near peerless skill in martial arts, who becomes infatuated with evil, and is ultimately driven to insanity because of it. The reason why the movie is held in so much acclaim by me (and others I assume) are the incredible martial arts sequences and the terrific acting performances of the main character played by Tatsuya Nakdai and his polar opposite, Toshiro Mifune.

The sword fighting scenes are still the best I've ever seen, graceful, powerful, and deadly. Nakadai is terrific with the sword and really makes you believe what you are watching is real martial ART. Nakadai also has an incredible presence that is malevolent, cool, and imposing all at the same time. He believes himself to be the best, and no one else matters. His eyes look through you.

Where Nakadai is all ice, Mifune is pure fire, and you'll see possibly his best sword fighting scene ever here. A terrific 1 man vs dozens fight scene in a snowy graveyard at night where Nakadai watches in horror at the sight of a good man who just may be better then him with the sword.

Its just a kickass movie.

Well biff +1 sales thnx to you.

Glad to hear it, I think you'll enjoy it. To be fair, the movie isn't perfect. Sometimes it feels slow, and parts of the story could use fleshing out ( read somewhere that it was originally intended to be a trilogy). But, whatever flas it has I believe the posatives I mentioned make it a must see for those interested in this type of movie.

Now I really wish the AnimeEgo versions of Lone Wolf and Cub would come down in price. 35$ each, jesus :|

Got it! The trnslation seems better and the picture is very nice. Mifune also looks cool as hell on the insert inside, and the opening menu is nice. Sword Of Doom, how I love thee...

I wanted this movie based on the cover alone (as stupid as that sort of impulse may be); and I didn't even know that the godly Toshiro Mifune was in it–now it's a must. Isn't "Incident at Blood Pass" (his last time playing Yojimbo) out now as well?

Naked Shuriken, I hear that. I only have the first one, and picking up the rest will take time.
