An hour to go, why the hell am I so excited? The game scared the crap out of me the first time I played it.
Oh wow. I'm dying @ the description lmao.
yeah I'm not downloading the mods that change character graphics. Never played SS2 before and I want as clean an experience as possible. I'm considering not even using the environment texture mod
The environment texture mod is the goods. Really the ones Mr Boo linked before are tried and tested.

SS2 SHTUP (Shock Texture Update Project) - What it sounds like, faithful to original textures, lots of comparisons included in link (just scroll down), see for yourself.
Dark Engine Widescreen mod - Self explanatory once again, high-res + widescreen support.
System Shock 2.4 - High-res/widescreen support, tons of bugs fixes and other improvements, see link (thanks Stallion Free for pointing it out)
SS2 Schatten SHMUP (Shock Music Update) - Faithful recreation of music using higher quality version of soundtrack (in cases where original music arrangements were not present in soundtrack, original is left untouched).
SS2 Modmanager - If you want to start trying other mods (like Rebirth and so on).
There's a small chance mods may need to be updated before working with GOG's release, but it likely won't be a very long wait if so.
Edit: Additional one, thanks angular graphics!

System Shock 2 |OT| Console Players Leave This Place Now or We Will Wound You as You Have Us.
Definitely too long and too elitist.

I see a lot of visual tweak mods on that site the textures etc were linked at, could someone compile a nice list of stuff that look good yet consistent? For example I see there are high res space backgrounds, weapon skins and other such stuff not covered by the high quality object textures mod everyone's recommending. I understand the monster model mod is out for consistency reasons but some of those can't be bad.
I've seen that, it only has the object textures as far as assets go, hence my post, which I guess you didn't read, but thanks.it was Just reposted:
