It won't be possible. Sure, you could map the controller to emulate keyboard and mouse functions but the interface relies so heavily on the mouse that it won't be any fun to play. You'll just be moving a cursor around the screen with an analog stick in order to click on tiny objects and buttons. Does that sound like fun?
I still can't believe System Shock 2 was, at one point, being worked on for Sega Dreamcast (and, in fact, a very early build was leaked). I can't imagine how the hell they would have translated the game to a pad with so few buttons.

Do I need to play System Shock 1 before I play 2?
Installed on my Windows 8 laptop, game launches no problems, widescreen resolutions are there out of the box, videos play perfectly, this is so awesome. Seems to have 8xMSAA enabled by default in the cam_ext file.
I can't provide a source or say more, but let's say I have my reasons to believe this isn't the case.

Patch creator doesn't have any rights to the patch he made afaik (iirc people said it was illegal as it used altered source code or something) so, it's probably safe for them to use it since they do have rights to that now...
Nope, the awesome plot twist is possibly more awesome if you're familiar with the first game but SS2 stands on it's own. To be honest IMO if you're more familiar with "modern" games SS2 is probably the better place to start anyway; it plays just like a modern game. SS1 can be... challenging to get used to.Do I need to play System Shock 1 before I play 2?
No need if you just want to install and play vanilla. The GOG install works perfectly "out of the box". It appears to already be automatically packaged with the NewDark (v2.4) stuff so widescreen, videos etc all work without any modification. So no need for the SS4 Tools thingy? Any mirrors for it that doesn't require signing up?
Love the GOG wood shelf.

Wait a minute... XIII is in your list and went right to gog to buy it but I can't find it. Argh! How is that... where did you... WHY CAN I NOT HAVE WHAT YOU HAVE?!?
Also for those who want to use a gamepad, note that when in the inventory menu the game is not paused so you are subject to being attacked while trying to use a gamepad to manage the inventory. This also applies to hacking etc.
I dont like (or use) gamepads so I am not sure how much more difficult this will make it (if at all) but based on the comments so far I believe it would.
Is it ok to ask why?Hope its okay to ask, may someone pls gift me systemshock 2? If you're welling, send me a pm for my name on gog.
Dude how about some spoiler tags and warning or just not post something like that at all. SS2 was not exactly a huge hit and a lot of people will be playing this game for the first time.
GOG deserves support and you can add it to Steam anyways.Have there been any hints as to when the GOG exclusivity period ends? I want the game on GOG and Steam.
That one was a torrent link anyway so maybe google will have results.does anyone have SHMUP available anywhere? Thanks!
I bought it on GOG the second it was available, stayed up and everything (East Coast). Love GOG! Want both! Want to support this and spread some money around. Problem is I have digital games spread across a billion different platforms and services and can never keep track of anything. If I have it via Steam as something I can actually download through them it makes playing it wherever I want much easier. I wish the dev's site never mentioned Steam, to be honest! Or that the RPS interview went into the exclusivity rather than just putting it in the headline. I know that GOG is as much to thank for this release as Night Dive, believe me.GOG deserves support and you can add it to Steam anyways.

I'm guessing that I can easily play this on my current 1.5 year old Dell desktop; 8GBs of RAM, Core i5, integrated graphics, etc?
intros don't work on GOG's version.
intros don't work on GOG's version.
that sucks...
hopefully they will fix this. Doesn't gog use a downloader/updater now?
Working for me
intros don't work on GOG's version.
now it works. I just restarted the game.
I've finished Antichamber so I'm going in as O.S.A. Wish me luck, lol. I won't use hacking at all.
HUD scaling doesn't work right for me. It's either tiny when I don't delete the ; in those lines or huge so that it fills the screen no matter what numbers or specific resolutions I set. I guess I'll have to leave it huge.
I tried that, said it in the post you quoted, that's what I meant with resolution, not display resolution.A few lines down you see "d3d_disp_scaled_2d_overlay 640 480". Try playing around with those numbers at the end there instead (which is the HUD resolution). You might need to re-add the semicolon to the earlier rule.
So wait, does GOG include the co-op mod?
It's not a mod, it's built into the game.
It was released without COOP but Irrational released an official patch which added the feature. It was? I remember there being some kind of co-op thing but I thought it was a mod. maybe I mixed it up with "Synergy" for Half-Life 2. It was officially added later on right?
