Cool I can get alot of early costumes then, going to pick this up next month since I'm still saving up for a PS4. Game is at a great price though.

I was thinking the same thing, Until I realized I paid $100 for the collector's edition, geez. Not sure if it's worth the price tag but I love Tales of Symphonia.

It's likely they just copied and pasted the GC localization (Sacred Light, Holy Binds, etc.) and added new translations for the new stuff, then didn't do a good job to cross referencing old localizations or change the text if they did a different translation with the voice.

Rock Mountain -> Rock Pillar is probably them thinking Rock Mountain sounds really Engrishy...which it does. But they already left it as Rock Mountain in Abyss, so it's obvious again they didn't do a good job referencing old localizations. :p

It's really fucking lazy and/or amateurish.

Other than that, good job getting the old dub actors back in studio for a few lines even if they didn't voice skits.... and making a pretty sweet looking CE. That's about all the praise they're getting out of me.

......still better than Phantasia GBA's localization, haha.

It's not the first time. There has been arte names established in Symphonia (original)/Abyss/Vesperia/Radiant Mythology that didn't carry over to Xillia.

Namco should really do some QA on names established and maintain the consistency. While it's not a deal breaker, it's annoying when they switch around. e.g. Senkuureppa (閃空裂破) was localized as Light Spear, but in Xillia it was called Tornado Drive. On a similiar note, the arte Chirisazame (散沙雨) was known as Sword Rain, but in Xillia they changed it to Staff Rain. I'd guess the localization team thought it was weird as the character in question uses a staff and not a sword, so they had to change it. Guess same type of logic was applied when they renamed Light Spear to Tornado Drive.

Other times when an arte branches off another arte, they should somehow maintain connotation of the arte family too. e.g. Gurenken (紅蓮剣) was localized as Hell Pyre in Symphonia. One boss in Graces has a move called Gurenkourin (紅蓮皇輪) which was localized as Crimson Disc. It's obvious that Crimson Disc comes from Hell Pyre, yet it isn't established like in the Japanese version.

I know, I should grateful that they even bother to localize the games to begin with, even if every sword was called Sword +1, Sword +2 etc.

Things like Light Spear getting called Tornado Drive for one game never bothered me. It's not like the name has any special meaning, and it doesn't happen all that often.

I saw Tornado Drive as an attempt to fix Light Spear to not be weapon centric rather than them making a mistake. Except now the name sounds wind elemental. Oops.
Staff Rain was acceptable too and still kept the reference to the move being the same.

Sometimes they change stuff just because like allies getting Ice Arrows but enemeies get Ice Needles in Legendia... Other times they make sense, and some of them they're just plain forgetful like renaming Reid's artes in the Abyss cameo to match the old localization. A cute idea until they messed up one of the moves. Sonic Blade = Demon Fang, not Lightning Blade.

It more or less bugs me because since Radiant Mythology there's been an attempt to stay consistent but they make some really dumb mistakes (even if they made some weird naming choices in that game too Ex: renaming Tempest back to Tempest Strike from Eternia days, just because of Arche's spell? Why not rename the spell instead? They didn't bother keeping this change in DotNW anyway...)

To be fair, the original game had mistakes with unison attack quotes too, such as Lloyd's voice clips over Zelos's unison attacks and Colette calling out Lloyd's name when she was performing attacks with other characters.

Still pretty sad they're making the same mistakes, though.
Colette just like Lloyd too much.

I picked free shipping so ima avoid the thread starting tomorrow.

No fun in being behind and reading about it. I'll come back when my CE comes.

Anyone know when you can download preorders on psn? Is it at midnight or is it later?

PSN is supposed to be fully updated by 5 pm EST on Tuesdays. That's not to say that you can't look at around 2-3 pm and start downloading it if it's there (which, for the most part, new games are the first things to go up in my experience).

Out of curiosity I went back to look at the Japanese CE; didn't realize how sad theirs was too when comparing to NA.

When I asked Bamco if the European CE had an abridged OST - as it had two instead of four discs - they said it was identical. What's that mean, they're mp3?

So which game saves give you outfits in this game? I only have ToX and ToG

I don't know if that's what you're asking, but the game detected a Graces f save file on my PS3 and gave me Abyss, Vesperia, Graces, Xillia and Xillia 2 costumes.

Have fun getting one million chips at the casino guys <3
I spent too many hours doing it for the trophy last year x_x The real wall in my double trophy quest, for sure.

Wait, so they ported the poor quality PS2 port of the game? What a huge waste of time. I cann't even begin to imagine why they took that approach.

Earlier in the thread I said that I was sticking to the GameCube version because of the frame rate. That was until Amazon kindly reminded me that I had preordered the collector's edition last year (and which will be shipped soon). So much for that plan...

(I really need to keep better track of what I preorder.)

Did it ship? You can still cancel if it hasn't.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
Already finished both games, so won't pick up, but just wanted to say ToS2 gets a bad rap... but Emil and Marta actually have a really interesting character arch. Like, they actually evolve as people throughout the journey. You don't often find that in these types of games. So, if you can make it through, I enjoyed it despite itself because I thought the characters felt more fleshed out than usual.

Picking this up tomorrow. Never played Symphonia but I'm interested.

I played Symphonia on Gamecube. Never got around to the sequel. I think I was done with GC when that one came out. Looking forward to it, but I'm also concerned that a ho-hum HD port will ruin my memories of the game.

I know we go through this every time for Amazon's shipping process, but this time my order hasn't even changed from "not yet shipped" even though the delivery estimate is supposed to be tomorrow.
