Well, I feel that almost every character is necessary to put into the party at some point. There is a reason why I ended up learning how to use everyone manually. This is actually one of the few Tales games where I actually like using the mage characters (Rowen/Elise) / magic swordsman characters (Milla).
First time took 70+ hours, second time took me shorter than that. The second time took me less than that. The second playthrough that you will need to do to complete the run will last about 4-5 hours if you're skipping scenes you've already seen + Grade Shop enhancements. Recall that you need to do a playthrough with Jude and a playthrough with Milla to platinum the game.
If you take advantage of how easily you can combo enemies and get the EXP bonuses, you can level up to 99 really quickly. You won't need to buy the stupid level up DLC for it because you can do that shit for free.
Graces F took me a little under and above 110 hours both times.
If the Ni no Kuni fiasco is anything to go by... I don't think they'll try that again.

Soon as we hear where we can preorder the CE, I will, as long as it can be from Amazon, Gamestop, Best Buy or just another site that isn't namco's store or digital river. The release misses my bday, by a month and a few days, but this is a bday present to me.

...the worse characters than Vesperia thing is disappointing. That to me is the best that I've played in the series.

I'm also wondering if you get the DLC free if you preorder the CE or regular edition. Someone should ask Rich.
And that's only confirmed for the Europe right now as well. Can't assume American Collector's edition will get it.

Ugh. So if I want the costume for Jude, I'll have to pay? Those really weren't cheap for Graces. I bought Huberts Flynn costume, that was like $4.99. lol, Are costumes not in the game at all? Graces had some.

If Milla was voiced by JYB, I think I would have been willing to drop $100 on this thing... but I think I'll have to save my money; too many games I want are coming this summer and beyond..

I'm starting to feel similarly, to be honest. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet.
Having to trudge through those fields yet again and then do the EX Dungeon 3 times again does not sit well with me.
Four costumes in-game, total. I think we've said that before, haha.
Everything else is DLC.

I like Sam's Jude.
I've always liked his voice though.
Milla is a bit weirder yeah. Voices oftentimes sound worse when they are edited into trailers in my opinion though, without the context. Is that weird?
Jude's in battle was fine but it's too deep in that trailer.
2 for Millia, 1 for Jude, 1 for Alvin. That's it.

And there are boatloads of DLC. We'll likely get a school, Tales cameo, swimsuit, and ... I think there's another set?
There are also some others that we probably won't get due to licensing
After watching that first trailer I'm wondering why they decided to show such a gimped trailer... All their voicework is done. The trailers don't need to show english text or anything since it seems to be purely a cinematic trailer. Yet they only opt to put Jude and Milla in it. If they're trying to hide the VA I get it but why didn't they show this trailer with the Jude/Milla showcasing. It just seems odd. Ugh.

I don't know. I have yet to see any screens of the UI or menu. I really want to see that. Or the title screen.

God I hate it when CE says "Selection CD" it tends to mean something from 4 songs to 12 max =/, but preordered cause I wanted to play this anyway. Edit: Hmmm they haven't sent a confirmation email yet... guess I'll have to wait for business hours.
I've never really been the type to change costumes from the default. Only if they were extremely annoying. I think the last game I did that with is Serah's outfit in XIII-2 in which I went for the lesser of two evils in the pink summoner garb. And while I hate the idea of buying costumes, if the white mage outfit was available earlier I might have caved since that actually looks nice.
Costumes seem largely bearable here. I mean Milla is a bit tacky, but it's not really annoying by any means.
EDIT: On second thought I changed Cheria's outfit to Rita's (Queen Bee?). Can't recall if that was DLC or not since I borrowed my crazy cousins account, who bought every piece of DLC with the exception of the Gald and Level UP items. He spent double the price of the game on DLC...
