Tales of Xillia Day 1 Edition (NA, EU), Collector's Edition (NA, EU) announced

YES. This is honestly my biggest cripe with the game. Cities are great, but field areas are bland and boring. Also dungeons lack any real puzzles, which disappointed me. I was always a fan of puzzles to make dungeons interesting.
How was the Tales of Graces last color puzzle?

Yeah me too. I always get excited when I can make my character awesome.

That's why I love Devil Arms, an alternate path for character progression (although it can get pretty op if you just play a single character).

That said, are there any Devil Arms in Xillia?

I just finished Graces F an hour ago.

Hype rising, though I'm not sure if I'll get the collector...it's really tempting.

How much did you pay for her? I want to get one, myself. But everywhere I look she seems to be over $100, which is a bit steep, IMO.

I paid 104 € (which includes shipping and customs) for her, but she was worth it.
I don't regret it, because she looks awesome.^^

Regarding the game... I'm still waiting for the listing on Amazon UK, so I can pre-order the Day1 Edition. Amazon Germany is listing the game since yesterday, but I don't like the big German rating on it.

Well, pre-ordered it off of the Gamestop website. Would it come with any pre-order bonus when it ships? First time I buy from the site.

Hrm, was thinking about the collectors edition. But not available on Amazon(yet?). Oh well if not ill just get the normal version.

As much as I hate myself, I will definitely buy at least a couple school costumes only for that amazing battle theme. Probably some Tales cameo ones as well, provided they come out relatively early and before I'm done with the game.

What are the odds of them getting the costumes up day 1? Graces wasn't, I think it was about a week before they started to put up costumes and not all at once, some were about a month after.

I hope they are better this time around. I might buy them if I can get them day 1.

it was the same on the japanese release ... so i honnestly think the odds of seeing everything day one are slim

One in games are pretty slim picking really. . .

I'm prepared to pay, but only if I don't have to wait until I'm done with the game. lol. I was just going to get Jude's Leon costume, Alvins Kratos and Bulter one, the cameo one for Rowen, have no idea what that is called, and I guess his Bulter one.

If you're hoping for a faster battle system than Graces, you're out of luck.

It does feel a little faster than Vesperia though.

Uh. Graces is faster than Vesperia and Xillia is faster than both. Idk what you're talking about.

I'm not necessarily opposed to overpowered characters, as long as they don't break the game and require a decent amount of execution or otherwise possess some sort of unwieldiness (like an awkward playstyle) that creates a sort of barrier to entry.

How was the Tales of Graces last color puzzle?

That was an amazing puzzle. I LOVED that final Sandshroud Ruins color puzzle.

Xillia is without a doubt faster than Vesperia. But Graces too? I wouldn't say that, having played both. Are we talking about actual character movement or the actual length of battles? In Graces, I had much shorter battles than Xillia.

Both. While Xillia is as slow as Vesperia in the beginning it quickly ramps up and gets faster than Graces. Considerably. Both in length of battles, pace, movement, everything.

To be honest, I felt that character movement was faster, and the duration of battles was shorter, in Tales of Xillia after going back and comparing both of those games. I had meant to go back and compare character animation speeds and battle duration for Vesperia vs Xillia 2, but I did not have time for it.

Though to be fair, maybe this might depend on the difficulty you were playing on? Having played on Hard/Unknown in Xillia and Chaos in Graces, I did feel that Xillia was much faster than Graces in general, and it was much easier to take enemies out. When you level everyone up in Xillia and perhaps get everyone to a point where they're maxed out vs Graces' Lv 200 characters, Xillia certainly does feel faster. Xillia is certainly slow at the beginning like kayos said, but it takes time to get movement and speeds high enough to make things feel somewhat faster in terms of movement and battle pacing, as I had detailed somewhat here.

I still feel like Xillia is the faster game, and it's easy to exploit because of faster animations and attacks that can quickly stun-lock enemies without intending for it to happen.

For me, Xillia's faster mostly because of Jude. Some of the other characters were similar to Graces or even Vesperia for me.

Also, got the CE version preordered. Didn't expect to pay almost as much as my Japanese copy. I'm not even sure if I'll go through with it.

The only person that should feel somewhat slow is Alvin and even then Alvin is extremely fast considering what his character archetype is.

Well, at least Xillia 2 is slower to the point where they nerfed the speed and made it more balanced.

Xillia Jude and Xillia 2 Jude feel like two different people sometimes.

Especially when you level him up. Even without equipping speed stat enhancers, he's faster than his character archetype typically is.

Perhaps this is what it really came down to. I tend to be quite underleveled in most RPGs, so maybe I never saw the speeding up of battles that you and kayos experienced. I will agree that in terms of character movement itself, Xillia is faster (I was mostly talking about how quick battles progressed and ended).

That's true. Thinking about it now, the characters moved pretty fast in Xillia. For battles in terms of attacks, I felt that Graces was faster for the whole cast but I could be remembering wrong.

Even though I still use him in Xillia 2 out of habit, I'm really glad they did. Felt like Abyss all over again by abusing his speed with free run.

I guess I should finish up Xillia 2 soon since there's a date for this one now. I don't feel like going through similar maps so close to each other. Just need a bit of a breather.

Out of curiousity, does there tend to be a base of people willing to buy the collector's edition after its sold out/released? I feel like there could be a market for making profit there but I don't actually know with Tales games.

Depends on the print run.

I don't believe pre-orders will sell out since they haven't said how many they would make. I do think they aren't going to make very many extras though.

RPGCrazied, I can't wait until you play the game and re-evaluate your avatar.
Then again, maybe you'll end up loving him like kayos does.

Yes, of course. There are always people who will get screwed out of getting it, or will be too lazy to pre-order it before it's all out... like what happened to me with P4G. Every sealed P4G Solid Gold edition on eBay and Amazon were going for over $100 last December, luckily Amazon.ca was selling a copy for $69 at the time.

Is he a whiny brat? :P Luke was that way in Abyss and kinda annoyed me. I always play male teams in Tales. This game I will be playing with Jude, Alvin, Rowen and Milla I guess. Can I beat the game with that? The other 2 girls really don't interest me in the slightest.

Why? Do you have some sort of aversion for the vag or something? :p

The other 2 girls are your healers, so good luck with that. But in Xillia, you can switch out characters instantly in battle, so unless you're incredibly stubborn you could just quickly switch in Elise or Leia when you need to heal.

Still, all male teams? Boring.

Bah, I always give the main character his own personal harem in these games. Plus the healer is usually a female as well. Gotta get them swimsuits!

To be fair to him, Jude can heal people (hence part of the reason why I said he could solo the entire game with Jude on Hard/Unknown if he wanted to), and Alvin has a shitty little AoE healing circle. Regardless, it's truly best to swap very character in and out of battle since they're all good to use in battle manually.

I agree. Xillia's one of those games where I don't like sticking to one party at all, or even one character to manually control either. I like swapping all the time. It's quick, easy, and painless. It's especially helpful for chaining link artes. It's something that Xillia 2 regrettably removed, and I disliked that.

Edit: Later on, I started relying more on Elise to be my healer and link partner (especially when I was manually controlling Leia), so I would consider keeping Elise in if you're having a tougher time in the EX Dungeon or the final boss.

I was considering cracking a joke about that last night, but left it alone. Haha.

I heard Jude is a healer as well? I mean, heck, he is a medical student in this game. lol

I think he has one instant heal arte, but he's no Elise (or even Leia probably).

Given that you can instantly switch characters, sticking to one set party seems incredibly silly and limiting to me.

I didn't know you could switch in characters while in battle. Do you use the d-pad or what?
R3 + D-pad to swap people in/out.

D-pad directional buttons to swap who you're linked to.

L1 + D-pad to change which character you use manually (ie: out of whomever's in your party at the time).

R1 + D-pad to switch which enemy you're attacking. R1 to attack the closest enemy.

Given that you can instantly switch characters, sticking to one set party seems incredibly silly and limiting to me.
It is.
