Not surprised in the slightest... I'm sure Disney is seeing so much green, they don't even care.

This is amazing

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
Boo-hoo! Call me when Tarantino manages to make another film as great as Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2

Until then, I'll be enjoying Star Wars and Sisters.

Can you elaborate on this. I'm aware a lot of their larger movies are old folk tales but if they are public domain how do they keep anyone else from making movies from them?
I don't mean literally destroying the already existing public domain. But by preventing more works from entering it it basically means that anyone that wants to do a new spin on a public domain story has to keep going back and retreading the same ground we've seen a billion times.

If more things were coming into the public domain you'd probably see more diversity instead of the same set of fairy tales being remade over and over again.

Regardless of your personal feelings about Tarantino, if what he is asserting is accurate and they had a deal already in place, Disney basically strong armed and threatened economic repercussions to force the cinema to break a pre-existing deal. They basically extorted the cinema in the oxford dictionary sense of the word...

...And you are defending Disney. SMFH. I guess in your mind unethical behavior is alright as long as you don't like an aspect of something or someone that is a victim to it or you like the person/organization committing it.

well i mean he is an outlaw til the end

So from what I've gathered from this thread is if trump were to say "star wars" before and after everything he did or said, he would win the presidential election

I'd relish the moment if he came out as being a huge star wars fan... dunno why. i would.

People sure love star wars. Even willing to defend a shitty company over it.

"I plan to get 100% of the star wars fan vote."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I had thought it was a contractual requirement by Disney that all the premium format screens play Star Wars for four weeks. Arclight must have signed that agreement just like everyone else. It doesn't seem to me like this is something that Disney has decided upon all of the sudden, nor a breach of any contract with TWC. But perhaps I am an uninformed on this matter.

The studio is requiring that multiplexes that play “The Force Awakens” on its opening weekend must show the film in their biggest auditorium and play it there for at least four weeks.

The Dome at Arclight qualifies as their biggest auditorium, I believe.

That's pretty shitty.

ITT people rationalizing shitty business practices because Star Wars is their religion.

Businesses exist to make money. Disney is doing what they want because they can and because they want to make the most money possible. Releasing this movie a week after Star Wars is just as smart and releasing Tomb Raider the same day and Fallout 4.

Disney cares so much about one theater that they'd pull the movie from a bunch of others? Wut? It's clearly not about the money

I mean, its pretty clear why. Does Tarantino think Hateful Eight was going to make the theater more money in the near term than Star Wars and that the Weinstein company will bring them more money in the long term?

Given that the 70mm version of Hateful Eight is a different cut, and extremely limited release, maybe. I know I'm going out of my way to see this specific version in my town, and it's only in one theatre. I'd be pissed if Star Wars ran Hateful Eight out, because the next closest theatre is six hours away.

Weren't they also the reason Mad Max couldn't get an Imax showing because of Age of Ultron hogging up the screens?

So "businesses gotta make money" with a dash of "Tarantino shoulda known better"

It's pretty hilarious imo. What's one theater going to do for Star Wars in the long run? On the other hand, the limited release of The Hateful 8 would benefit greatly from a well-placed and properly outfitted theater.

And it's not like they called "dibs" for the theater. There was a contract in place and Disney threw money at it to make it go away. Just one theater out of the thousands already showing Star Wars.

Who cares about that? Are you a stockholder or something?

Also, not that it matters, but this isn't about releasig a movie a week after Star Wars. I'm not sure why people keep mwntioning that.
This is about a special limited screening.

It's weird people assume that there is more money in selling out a showing of Star Wars than selling out a limited screening your theater is built to do.

When it actively fucks over customers wanting to see the movie in that particular theater people should care.

Yeah seriously, the Dome isn't the only place to see a film in 70mm in Los Angeles. Just go see it somewhere else.

I get the whole contracts and whatnot but I dunno Taratino is the last person I could ever imagine feeling sorry for.

at least you're honest with your bias lol

Haha yeah I work in this Industry. On a professional level, I understand why a contract being bought out by Disney is annoying.

But as someone who is involved in this world and lives in LA...I know I can see it at another theater in 70mm VERY easily. And as a film fan I just don't EVER see myself sympathizing with Taratino on anything really. Dude makes good movies, but hes a total self centered prick.

Totally biased, but my opinion nonetheless.

Just go see a star wars somewhere else.

Fuck that! Going to the DOOOOME now!

This doesn't exactly make Disney look much better. It just makes them look like they have made their bullying and strong arm tactics a company wide policy instead of unique to just Tarantino's situation.

Maybe have some sympathy for the cinema then?
