Truth. There are a lot of small actions that are absolutely critical that don't net you many points at all.

In pubs they're really only useful to medics that are looking for who to uber (I tend to pick a top five soldier or demo).

First rule of TF2: don't worry about K : D
Second rule: don't worry about points.

My point is not getting "many points" and topping charts, but it should get some points for your production rather than what it is now, 0. I wouldn't even be mentioning this if there were hordes of pyros running around backing me up as engie, but lately i've been noticing less and less. Maybe it's just coincidence but I can definitely see why some people started playing other more "rewarding" classes.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. I think a lot of it has to do with how general perception, and if you're not getting good feedback from hardline stats often times in high population pub servers you're really not getting it from other players. Delaying a cap by vital fraction of second get's lost amidst the bustle.

In smaller games your team mates seem to fill in those gaps since they can better recognize contribution. If you're not destroying people, medicing, or doing vital engineering (teleporter and sentry gun) sometimes it just feels like you're treading water.

I think they'd done something good with the points for defense, and on some servers with good stat tracking you get extra points for extinguishing people and killing medics and vital stuff like that, which is nice. It would be hard to get every situation, though. Sometimes a pyro suicide run can do some real work (making the medic pop uber, for example) but you really don't get any points for it.

Managed to hold the very first point with the cart virtually on top of it twice. Good times were had by all, except Blu.

so does anyone have an idea when we might be able to see the new engi shotgun in action?
Did they even reveal it? That one with a "shotgun you can turn into a sentry" was an old fan made fake item.

Its pretty obvious the gun will shoot some kind of tracing projectile.

I'm expecting it to be a robot bee personally.

Pros looks at stats like an accountant. They made a lot of kills, don't have too many deaths, and their overall score is very high if not at the top. That doesn't have much to do with being a good player... It just means their score is high. It's never the burden of proof.

Whereas if I look at my income statement and my numbers are high and not in brackets, that actually means there's a good chance I did good business. They are directly correlated.

I don't find many who can follow simple pathing and they get easy kills from merely having more health. Spies don't have to do pathing at all. They know the maps, case closed. The really mediocre ones don't even follow up.

What is it with you and robot bees?

First it was: "The pyro should be able to have a bee blast."

Then: "Why can't scouts have bee shoes that let them fly momentarily?"

And now it's engineers and robot bee guns. You've been smoking entirely too much crack.

I think you have me confused with someone else.

Played on the GAF server for the first time, that has to be the quietest server I have ever played on and it was all-talk. No one used voice chat for communication.

Oh looks like people are actually in the server, not too many from GAF though.

bee?!?!!? s?!?!?1??!

Again, I don't usually care about score so long as we win. You'll often see stuff get lost in the shuffle anyways. I don't even mind spies going around and picking people off SO LONG AS THEY HELP OUT WHEN THE OTHER TEAM PUSHES. By the time the entire team is on the cart pushing or capping, it's pretty much hopeless at that point.

If people were really concerned with score, they should go med :D

I'd rather someone assess a situation, and CHANGE CLASSES when they're needed. The other night, I was top of the scoreboard as med, but we had no freakin engie, so I switched while the rest of the useless team were running around herp derp. I made a tele...and nobody protects it and YOU NER-OH come and screw things up! >:/

Considering that I was at the top of the scoreboard AND the only med, someone else really should've switched, but that's the nature of the beast.

The problem with all-talk is that it makes it hard to strategize, unless you can stop to type. And every single time you say, "There's a sentry on the left," "There's a Heavy around the corner," the inevitable, "No I'm not" and "No there's not" by the person on the other team. :D

But it does help when the servers start to dwindle in numbers, or people just want to screw around.

Anyone know the time the -50% off deal ends? I'll probably buy this tomorrow and I don't want to miss it by 30 minutes or something silly like that..

Typically I avoid all-talk servers for the very reasons you mention, I didn't even realize it was all-talk until it was a round or two in and someone from the other team finally spoke.

I dont know when it ends but if you miss the deal you can buy it from Amazon for ten bucks

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00140S21O/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Physical copy than can be redeemed through Steam plus 5 dollars Mp3 credit, if you have Prime thats the better deal

Edit: You probably have a Mac though, would you be able to redeem a PC code? I dont see why not.

A couple of days late because I've been busy with exams. But I just wanna relay thanks to zombieshavebrains for his awesomeness in getting me those sweet earbuds. I wouldn't usually be so trusting of a random stranger but gotta love Valve for its verification process! :D

Pfft how can you be upset when you get to uberchain :D

Hey! I thanked you in the other thread. And I was still a little annoyed that almost every time the chain screwed up, it was while it was my turn to saw. I'm just not very good with melee in this game.

Nobody was on the GAF server when I was on this morning, so I just kind of ran around to get a feel for the map before going back to online practice.

thats why there should be a button for alltalk and one for teamtalk

heavy is overpowered in pub player

Hmm anyone know why it isn't saving my Video settings? I'm having to re-set them every time I boot up the game.
TF2 keeps resetting my resolution to 1024x768 each time it starts. I'm using a crappy 17 inch crt monitor. It thinks that it's my native resolution.

Try going Options->Multiplayer->Advanced, and uncheck Steam Cloud support. It might be that your settings aren't being uploaded properly, so when it checks, it goes back to default.

Also make sure if you're using Vista/7 that Steam (hl2.exe) is allowed firewall access in case it's a cloud thing, and that steam is allowed to change files in your Program Files (x86) in case it's having difficulty writing to config.cfg.

Try adding -w XXXX and -h XXXX to your launch options. e.g. -w 1280 -h 960 or -w 1600 -h 1200 etc.

Why is the GAF server empty? That's balls.
Before Mac Days began, it almost never filled up before 9-10pm EST, and then it would last until about 1-2am EST.

I assume now that the Mac Days are over, it'll go back to that. Most people who would play at other times don't because of the ping and because even if they did, there aren't really enough of them.

If someone who lives in one of those time zones would like, I'm sure they could either make a [Non-America] TF2 GAF Steam group and send out event invites OR ask Java for admin in the current TF2 GAF group and send out event invites at appropriate times. U:
