perryfarrell said:Yeah, my understanding is that these polycount packs are just ways of making existing weapons look cool.
But I could be wrong.
Unluckily for them, we're also going to attach gameplay attributes (probably of a game destroying nature) to these items, sullying their perfect work with our clumsy attempts at game design. Anyway, enough mucking about, head over and see who won!
No, I just got bored of pyro gameplay after 60 or so hours. I prefer to play heavy/soldier now and be closer to the action.Blizzard said:Just wondering, what made you stop playing pyro? The damage and burntime reduction? I think they un-nerfed it a little, and there's the airblast boost. Not to mention the new flamethrower which I'm sure will be awesome (or useless).![]()

Dustbowl. 70 points of defense from pyro. I think my ratio was less than 1.EvilMario said:Indeed, I've been over '70 hours' on Pyro for months.. creeping over 75 hours now. It's such a situational class in most cases, especially on servers with 24, or more people you're going to lose a lot of 1v1 match ups.
There are certain maps however that lend themselves to Airblasting people into pits, and tight corners for ambushing.
The hours I've stuck into recently with Pyro though are defensive with the Home wrecker. It's incredible now being able to Spy check and knock sappers off, all while Airblasting Ubers away. The problem with it is, most people don't want to sit back and score very few points playing that very effective team game.
And people are all about the points.

if the final cap is like 99% captured and you're a soldier with 90% of your health and you're literally a pixel away from the point, don't fucking turn around and run away and die because "you're getting shot at"
Buy the Orange Box immediately.VendettaXXI said:PC noob here!
I just got a new rig this evening and now getting games for it. TF2 is on the top of the list but I have never dealt with servers or anything like that before through Steam.
Any advice for the newbie?![]()

I'm actually surprised that I'm finally getting close to crafting my first hat. Either the drop rate has been increased or I'm just getting luckier.Orellio said:Drops have actually been pretty decent lately IMO.
Edit: unless you mean something else by "item system"

So it looks like the engineer update is slowing down, certainly not many engineers on a team at all these days, I think i'm usually the only one.
Is anyone else playing engineer like an attacking class? I run around shooting people and dropping mini sentries where no one expects them. Payload maps seem to be the best fun, gold rush in particular. I always make sure i have a level 3 sentry pushing the guys forward.
It's so much fun when it works. When it doesn't then it's shit and i switch back to solder or sniper :lol

Yeah, you may be able to find a boxed version for less.VendettaXXI said:I already have Half Life 2 but I do need everything else :lol Might head out today and find a disc copy. They seem to be cheaper rather than Steam purchase.
It's still weaker than before the update (and rebalance), but the class has been made somewhat of a defensive powerhouse. You could kill heavies quickly with a little surprise before the update - no backburner, no axestinguisher. The damage increase was really extreme up close.Proven said:Pyro feels weaker (or I've just become worst with atrophy and the switch from 360)[...]

Yasae said:I just wish the backburner made the pyro how it used to be offensively. Mini crits against an enemy's back isn't enough of an incentive, and the extra 10% damage still doesn't raise the pyro back to old offensive levels. You also have no airblast (win button), so you're really screwed when there's heavy oppression from the enemy team.
EDIT: And high ping with a pyro is annoying. You'll get hit for 125 damage from an opposing pyro before you're in visible range for an airblast. They consistently get a time advantage. Then there are those horribly laggy times where your flame clips through a soldier or heavy or medic for several seconds and never sets them on fire.

I find it a bit funny TF2 is the most expensive game of the pack, Half Life 2 has gone down a bunch :lol
Good to note. However, the damage ramp up as you get closer to an enemy seems permanently nerfed with either weapon, though the aforementioned tradeoffs almost make it fair.Wallach said:While I agree that the Pyro is probably underpowered (but really it is a class they will always balance around pub play and not comp play), it's actually full crits from behind and +15% damage for the Backburner. Not enough to compensate for the compression blast in the majority of cases, but it has a few uses (particularly the few payload checkpoints that are situated on corners where you can easily get 4+ kills in about 1 second).
As for high ping, one big problem is that the compression blast is not lag compensated like all other projectiles/bullets are. So while the rocket that got fired at you is compensated for the opponent's ping, your compression blast against it won't be and you may take a hit where otherwise it would have been a valid reflection. Aside from that you just have to remember the first hitboxes of your flamethrower jet don't come out exactly in time with the first graphic, so you need to lead the start of your spray a little more than you usually think, especially against the quicker classes.
The pyro nerf isn't bothering me as much as it used to. The airblast buff pretty much equals it out since any pyro worth his/her salt does the axetinguisher combo so W+M1 has never been something I relied on. I mean, clearly something is going right when I'm whooping Kuro's butt on that payload map
The shotgun is the secondary weapon I always stick with for the most part. Afterall, that's how I got a 40+kill streak on 2fort last year. Most people overlook it.jaundicejuice said:Combined Fire? That should be totally easy given that you'll be in range for the shotgun if you've lit someone up. That should be habit anyways for when a player gets beyond the range of your flame thrower.
It's a little better than it used to be, but there's a lot of residual (and still somewhat justified) hate due to the various points being either facerolls for BLU or nigh-impossible to attack successfully.Lionheart1337 said:Egypt is really fun.
