Don't be surprised if you see Yeoz on Hoarders.

Don't see why you keep all those crates on your main account. That's silly and a waste of space.

Also, I'm wondering if game codes are randomized every time they're traded. So if I trade you my copy of portal and you trade me yours do we get each others' codes or are they then randomized. Right now I have copies of Portal and Aquaria in my inventory, but really i gifted those to a friend's email long ago and he just hasn't redeemed them yet. What's to stop me from emailing a gift code to myself, copying it, then trading it and redeeming it with the code the instant the trade goes through?

Man this is so weird. I was looking in my profile inventory and noticed a hat that I had that I've never seen lol. It's the train conductor one. Awesome.

I don't know if this was in previous steam betas, but, this is a neat feature in the current steam beta:
You can group people by tags!

Yeah, it took me a while just to tag everyone. They've got to streamline the process. Individually tagging people takes forever! :(
It's an, uh, IRC channel.

Holy shit, those were some of the worst games on the GAF server in months.

1) No Medics
2) Medics who ran away or refused to heal people, or only healed Heavies who stood five miles away from the action
3) We did Dustbowl with took 50 minutes, then a terrible short custom map, then instead of something different like Viaduct Pro, everyone decided to follow up a super-long Dustbowl match by voting for fucking Thunder Mountain which took over an hour
4) Stacked teams
5) I hate you all

Hey, I was totally healing you whenever I had a chance to. (Although, I'll admit that I was hanging back a little trying to build ubers. Goddamn sentries.)

Not you, you and BuddhaRockstar were the good ones.

Dustbowl. Ew.

Also, if the HLStats API plugin worked correctly it'd probably fix the stacking issue. For some reason it can't connect to the database though. One of these days when i remember to stop being lazy/busy I'm going to make a mirror setup to the GAF server on my machine and use it to debug various plugins. I did notice, like a month ago, when i tried to use the randommap command so that the server would always load a random map when it restarted it'd always just go in mapcycle order. It randomized fine on my listen server though. So there may be some stuff going on behind the scenes on theGAF server that we just don't have any control over.

Dude! Don't do it! You'll come back to TF2 some day and regret it!

edit: Start playing tf2 again soon, so I can give this back to you:

Alright guys, I've started playing TF2 again, after a few years away from PC gaming. I've kept abreast of the changes, just from browsing the 'net.

But they're still pretty drastic, having last played just as they were introducing hats. Seeing demomen run around with swords is pretty bizarre. Dying and seeing some huge spec sheet pop up of the item that someone killed me with is bizarre, but not game haltingly so.

But being a part of the OCD gaming community that I am, I need to know: am I missing out on anything by not partaking in this?

The crafting I couldn't give a shit about, and I'm sure as hell not spending real monies on TF2 items. I play a medic, and noticed this this weapon, which looks pretty cool, with some nice features that could come in handy. It appears to be something that can only be gained from crafting - is that right? It's not something that will be 'dropped' in regular play?

I must tip my hat (both TF2 and IRL) to Valve also, that TF2 is still so wonderfully pickup and playable after these years away, that is still so balanced, that the maps so memorable that I felt right at home (aside from the few aesthetic changes mentioned above and the occasional woeful performance). Such a great game. Healing a sensible Soldier or Heavy (or pyro) while we rampage through a well defended chokepoint is still such a great rush.

Traded my Capotain w/ hearts for a Hot Rod w/ Peace + 2 random vintage hats. Really didn't like the effect on the Hot Rod, but I really, REALLY wanted one. Much more so than the Capo.

Almost every weapon drops, they're in fact the most common thing you can get. They just litter the place, and soon enough you'll be getting dupes upon dupes upon dupes. The rare few that don't drop are usually cosmetic changes to current weapons, so it's not bad.

So, if your interest is in the weaponry, you have nothing to worry about. Just keep playing and you'll eventually get the one you want. In a week you can generally get 10 random items.

Sweet. I expected that this was the case, else there would have been a mass set of tears form that I wouldn't have missed!

I bought a new headset, more or less for TF2 play this week, and have a new PC purchase forming on the horizon. More TF2 is a given at this stage!

All gameplay affecting items will drop regularly. Basically, each week you'll 'find' 8~12 items randomly just by playing. You don't have to do anything special, just play. The drop cap resets every Wednesday night.

If you're not getting the items you want via drops your options are trading, crafting or buying them. If you're looking for a specific weapon or two lots of people will give them to you for free. Those that won't will usually just do a 1:1 trade. it's the easiest way to get weapons you're looking for. Most weapons will also have crafting recipes. For example, the quick fix can be made by crafting a kritzkreig, a reclaimed metal and a mad milk together. Buying items from the store is pretty straightforward. Just keep in mind that the vast majority of store-bought items cant be traded or used to craft other items.

As for the quick-fix, it's a love it or hate it kind of medigun. It's designed for a much different style of play compared to the standard medigun or even the kritzkreig. It's more about holding the line than pushing. Being able to latch on to scouts also means you can zoom around the map pretty quickly if you can find one to escort you. It drops normally just like any other weapon.

Great info

Nice to know about the drop rate cap reset. Didn't know that, thanks!

I guess part of what prompted me to post was that after a few nights of running around (and often finishing in the top 2 or 3 players - I still got it baby!) on pub servers, I felt like I might have been missing out as all my gear is just the default gear (except for some hats and halos), whereas every other player had crazy items (demoman sword for example).

Cheers guys!

The Demoknight (demoman with sword and shield) is essentially a 10th class, but shoehorned into an already existing class. Demoknight is extremely easy to kill 1v1, but deadly when rushing into crowds. Much like spies, they feed on chaos, but have a super fast charge instead of cloaking and disguising.

Generally speaking, discounting melee weapons, the stock weapons are equivalent or better to unlocks. There are a handful of cases where that's not the case (degreaser vs. flamethrower, Jarate vs. SMG, etc.).

Felt like a fucking boss earlier today in a pub server. Went Engineer and built a teleporter leading into the opponent's base in Turbine. What made me feel good was the fact that nobody tried to stop me save for one player who kept getting eaten by my sentry.

My ping has been 300+ whenever I've tried to join the GAF server. I managed to get by as a medic for a few minutes and then my ping shot to 800 and I couldn't move.

Once I get to college I'll have significantly less time to play, but at least my ping should be low.

I'm playing on the Valve server too much. I was atrocious today on the GAF server as a spy.

Granted, there were only like 5 people on each team. I'd imagine that makes it harder to do spy shenanigans.

Noob question.
I just saw a pyro with a 3glowy ghost masks circling his head (looked kinda like the scream mask)what is that? and Im gnna guess ill never see this in my life...

So far so good...Im 1 achievement from pyro milestone 2, getting some DOMS under my belt and 9/10 im in top 5 team players (it is valve servers but im getting better)Im LOVING the Flare Gun..Im getting a decent handle on things so hope to grow the balls to play with you guys sometime soon....best case scenario ill be featured in one of those vids "look at this idiot"...but its all good

You'll improve alot faster playing on the GAF server since people will tell you what you're doing wrong.

As for looking like an idiot don't worry about that, my Demoknight play has enough fail for everyone.

That's an unusual hat. They are extremely rare and do not drop. Instead you have to purchase a key from the store and open a crate. The odds of getting an unusual hat out of a crate are about 1 in 100. They basically fund the game and the success of keys is probably a big reason why the game went free to play.

Haha, not much to worry about. The default gear isn't crappy at all, the vast majority of weapons aren't direct upgrades, just options.

Since you play medic, I recommend looking for the Vita-saw (you'll respawn with up to 20% of your uber when you die, at the cost of only 10 hp) and the Blutsager (heals 3 hp per hit, at the cost of slower personal health regen). Also, I personally prefer the Kritzkrieg over the other mediguns, but it's situational.

Some particular weapons I feel are upgrades and should be kept:

1. Scout - The entire Milkman set (Shortstop, Mad Milk, Holy Mackerel, Milkman hat) gives +25 hp and is amazing

2. Soldier - The Equalizer (This is the only weapon change I use outside default loadout). The Direct Hit is also useful for breaking a team who turtles with sentries.

3. Pyro - Degreaser, Powerjack, Axetinguisher, Postal Box. Don't be fooled by The Backburner, it's airblast cost makes it limited in my opinion. Also I feel the default shotgun is better than The Flare Gun in 99% of situations.

4. Demoman - fuck that shit. I hate this class. Do whatever you want.

5. Engineer - The Jag, Wrangler, Gunslinger. People like The Frontier Justice but honestly I prefer the default shotgun.

6. Medic - already stated.

7. Sniper - Honestly I just use the default for him, but Jarate is great if you know how to use it.

8. Heavy - Sandvich, Gloves of Running Urgently. Default minigun is the best, don't let others fool you. Brass Beast maybe but in a very limited, situational capacity.

9. Spy - honestly all of the Spy weapons are amazing, and open him up to all sorts of play styles.

Anyway, none of the items are true upgrades in a sense - just a fit to your personal tastes. Mess around with everything though, so you get an idea of each class's strengths and weaknesses.

I'm probably not translating the sentence correctly, but if Soldador is being used as an adjective, it comes after the noun.

And both as an ex-spanish student, and my own quick look to google translate, I have no idea what Soldador is supposed to mean in that sentence, as I keep getting definitions that wouldn't make sense.

It's supposed to say "Dog Welder's Sombrero": "Welder of many things!"
