As I mentioned in the Steam thread:

Man, this achievement hunting game is more popular than the one in the summer. The Winter group is near 1.2 million subscribers. Summer group has less than 500,000. I think it never made it pass 700,000.

This is really tempting me to not save up on the coal and go ahead and craft it all. The odds of one coal winning out of 1.2 million is less than .01%, and that is if you are only going for getting the top five items on your wishlist.

Rather get something instead of rolling the dice. I'll probably still have some leftover coal at the end just to stay in the contest. The way I look at it 6 coal, plus a chance at a free game, plus coupons that might be good next year are greater than sitting on 40+ coal that I would have had.

So far I've traded coal for Portal (didn't own it, figured why not), The Ship + giftable copy, Serious Sam HD, Devil May Cry 3, and Psychonauts. Kinda all over the place, but it's all free stuff. And I have Stalker: Call of Pripyat that becomes tradable on January 4th sitting on an alt.

I plan to save one coal at the end of it all. I certainly won't win anything with zero coal, but I could win everything with just one!

If I was guaranteed the Santa hat I would totally craft them, but I have an equal chance of getting 33% off Supreme Commander II or something. The best thing I've seen someone win was Trine 2, which is a great prize, but I've seen far too many awful crafts as well.

Anyways, I'm going to rate the best official maps from 2011.

5Gorge

I actually enjoy all of them minus 5Gorge. I refuse to acknowledge Eyeaduct as a new map.

Even an awful craft is better than nothing. I've already gotten about 10 or so games from crafting coal. If I had just held onto the coal i would have gotten 0.

Oh wow had a cocky prick in the server tonight, Dack Rambo saying he's the best etc... What didn't help he was using the voice channel too. :/

You try to defends your base and destroy the enemy base, and do so by controlling a single unit directly (Most of the time, there are exceptions where you have additional units). There is about 100 Units you can pick, each unique, two teams of 5, and each player has to pick a different unit. Some can turn invisible, one can revive after death for a second shot, one can fire a giant ball of ice onto any part of the map, one can use a hook to grab enemies and bring them to him, anther has a hook that pulls him self to the enemy, there is one that can teleport anywhere on the map, one who can triple his attack strength for a short time, and there is still 90 more.

Good fun once you get over the initial hill to learn the basics.

Rise of Immortals is the worst example of the genre, period. Except for maybe some of those SC2 mods. At the least, it's the worst "real" example.

But all you really need to know is if you suck, you hate it, and if you don't suck, you love it. Clearly Hazaro sucks.

I also like all of them except for 5Gorge, which I consider to be in the shit tier of maps along with 2Fort, Egypt, Hydro and Turbine. Kinda funny, because I like normal Gorge.

I haven't played Foundry enough to say how much I like it, but it seems decent enough.

Personally new maps (both Valve created and Community made maps that are made official) are one of the things I most look forward to in the major updates. Hopefully we get some more great ones from Valve this year, and another Community Map pack or two.

Personally, the time requirement for one game of DOTA2 keeps me from playing it more
at all

Sure I'll play TF2 or QL for hours and hours, but I can spec while I wander off for a drink or answer the phone or check the net before respawning.

DOTA2 is serious business for 45 minutes straight.

fuck that.

Id like to know the extent of how many accounts and how much value in games were on each account. That would alleviate my fears if it was someone just being incredibly stupid. I got two accounts each with over $100 in games. I havent crafted the coal either, Ive been trading it away from items in spiral knights and tf2.

Well, I did a little digging, and it seems some of these banned users have 100 or 200+ accounts, with accounts generated from free or cheap steam keys (with one person brazen enough to use a keygen, which the mention-of got him banned from the russian forum, incidentally). I didn't even know there were free keys for steam games, let alone a keygen (?!) that could work on steam.

The worst part about the current item server issues? It's how inconsistent it is. Half the people in each server get their items, the other half don't. :(

But on another note, I broke down and bought a Pomson 5000 from the warehouse. That thing is pretty nuts. I didn't realize that the projectile can go across the entire map; you basically just spam in the general direction of the enemy medic, and you're almost guaranteed to hit him a few times. Craziness.

Sheesh. I wouldn't say I exploited it. I had an old account I used to contact steam support and used the HIB 3 key that I got for purchasing the HIB 4 on it.

Hopefully they let it slide for me, since I just did it once :/

There's others I know that did it a bunch of time with the cheap bundles and the HIB site made it a requirement to pay more than $1 to stop abusers.

Meh. The agreement doesn't say anything about being limited to a single account or anything like that. The closest thing it says talks about not exploiting software for commercial gain. If what Yeoz posted is true, it's probably dudes loading up accounts with free games and then selling them off or something along those lines. Us greedy people who just have extra accounts because we can should be fine.

By the looks of it, the people that were disabled had over 100-200 alts made from the Humble Bundle and codes. I wouldn't worry about it, you'll get a headache over something that won't happen.
