Team ICO's Next Project - 'Wanda and the Colossus'

The next project from Team ICO at SCEJ.

Famitsu.com has a bit of info about it. To sum it up, it's not a sequel - they just used their experience and technology in this game. It's an action game where you have to fight the huge statues (there's a lot of them). Your only friend is the horse and the girl you must look after is very important to you, though it is not explained by the story in game. The main character, the girl and the horse are the only living things on earth.

Game-wise, you have to "catch" the giant and climb onto it. You have to find its weak points and attack them, but the surface of the giant can be maze-like, so the game is part action, part puzzle.

Any thoughts on the title so far? Does anyone think that the picture with the grassy ground could actually be the back of a monster? The "rocks" almost look like bones nearby.

good idea to start a new thread, but only people who are reading the old thread will know what the hell "wanda and the colossus" is. you should edit the title to mention that it's the ico team's new game.

and yeah, i figured that little grassy patch was on one of the monsters as well. it's really cool that they look to be made of earth and rock and masonry.

Yeah, looking at the older leaked images of the monster, that grassy bone patch looks quite similar... even though it's green grass as opposed to brown fur.

just edit your post and change the title, i think. though come to think of it, i'm not sure you can edit a thread's title. maybe one of the mods will do it.

mods: Could you change the thread title to "Team ICO's Next Project - 'Wanda and the Colossus'" so that people are aware it's Team ICO's next game? Thanks :).

Maybe it's better to keep the title as it is. That way only people who're interested in the game (and thus know its name) will enter the thread. :)

Wouldn't be better to have an official thread when we have something substantial. As it is the game looks really intriguing although I'm slightly disapointed is doesn't seem to have anything to with ICO with regards to plot.

So, the way jonnyram was explaining it, it sounded like there were three characters in the game. The third character is some girl that is very important to you. However, he then said that the girl and the horse are the only living things left on the earth. Is the third character dead? Is that picture of the girl with her eyes closed the same important girl we're talking about?

I`m pretty disappointed in the whole thing, seeing those early Nico screens from last year i figured we would see a sequel. This game is a total surprise and came out of nowhere.

Looks and sounds interesting though.

I'm actually really glad this has nothing to do with ICO. A part of me wants that game to just stay the way it is, and let people come up with their own reasoning behind the story. It would kind of take some of the mystery away if you had an explicit answer for everything that went on, you know?

That seems like it. The main character seems to have red hair while the girl laying down in that picture seems to have brown hair. Johnnyram mentioned that the text on the page said "We're fighting to meet you again", which seems to indicate that the main character and the horse are fighting to meet that girl again.

I had this dream once that I was playing a game where people lived in massive, fortified "mechs" in lieu of cities - the walking villages had elaborate rope and fabric sails/kites/pagoda-type structures at the heads where the tribal leaders holed up. Different giants represented various levels...

This is close enough - So much of this type of game rides on the "immersive" element so derided by Drinky. I'm well past sold and entering a world of painful media embargo.

no more pictures for me please.

This man speaks the truth. I breathe the sigh of relief when I heard that Ueda does not consider this to be a sequel to Ico and that it's just it's own thing.

Hopefully we'll get some response soon about what the game is like in motion. There was an audience there. For instance, that first picture with the giant and birds shows that he has hair. I wonder if the hair bounces around and moves when he does...

More importantly, I would like to know what kind of world this will be in. So far we've only seen a couple of environment shots. It would be incredible if you had these hulks but in a gigantic world like in the early "nico" shots.

Also, something that just gives me goose bumps thinking about it is the possible ending sequences for this game. Using this kind of scenario, they could possibly top ICO's ending as the best ever. Imagine for a moment if at some point there is a duel between two giants, and you're like an ant looking at it from the ground...rocks and dust flying past your face as a true "battle of the titans" takes place in front of your eyes.

This thread is coming too soon.

Traduction problem aside, it could be anything from the true spiritual sequal of ICo to a stupid beat them all with the ICO rendering engine. Ico was not about fighting, but about taking care of the girl. If this girl has a horse and a sword, I do not feel she needs us ;)

That's not such a bad idea. This is more media than I had when going into ICO (which was pretty much nothing but the US cover art.) Perhaps I will have to join the media embargo club as well :(.

I said "The main character, the girl and the horse are the only living things on earth." By that, the main character is not the girl. It's really hard to make out from the images, because the main character is so small, but it appears to be a male from the websites' descriptions.

Is the main index page with the pictures down for anyone else? I can't read the text on the page. Perhaps it says bandwidth exceeded or something of that nature.

Hmm, looks and sounds pretty interesting. I like the art direction so far. I really, really want to play ICO, but I don't have a PS2.

I put it through Excite's translation and it says "Public Presentation is Cancelled". Did anyone save the images?

In the eternal words of "Dave and Steve's Videogame Explosion": Rent, Buy, Steal, or make your friend buy, then steal from him. Grim Fandango and Ico are my two favorite games in the existence, and there's a good chance it'll work for you the same way :) I can assure you that Ico has an immense appeal to pretty much everyone I know who love(d) P&C adventure games, or something like 'Another World' for example.

Same thing here :(

I already love this game. Can't wait to see more art.

Good show brandonnn :)

If someone has the remaining three then we'll have the full collection.

I imagine we'll get some in-depth response soon. They did get to see a full video of all this stuff, so I imagine that there are at least a couple of reporters who will get the details down for us.

I'm uploading the remaining 3 from gamefront.de now. They'll be linked up in a few short moments. Thanks Temujin!

edit: errr, looks like gamefront was missing one -- wanda-03.jpg. Anyone?

Damn, well I'm sold. GOTY whatever the hell year this comes out, I assume its 2005. The idea is just awesome...can't wait!

It's bloody cool that in the last picture there you can see thin towers in the distance through the clouds and dust. I imagine the world in this game will be very interesting.

Let's face it, the sky is the best thing.

This game's art makes pretty much every other title in the world cry.

I dunno why, but I'm getting a major Prince of Persia 2 vibe from this...Maybe it's the giant, maybe it's the fact it looks darker and with probably more action.
