No I'm pretty sure it had "OK" sales as well. I myself expected this game to sell terribly and happily it didn't.Mama Smurf said:I thought the game has pretty decent sales, especially given how little I expetced it to sell.
Or am I confusing it with something else?
Matlock said:I dunno why, but I'm getting a major Prince of Persia 2 vibe from this...Maybe it's the giant, maybe it's the fact it looks darker and with probably more action.
TekunoRobby said:As sad as I am to say it I think this was the best move for the team to do. I think the lack of action of ICO, the name, and even the atmosphere are probably what caused the game the have such poor sales here in the US. Of course big marketing push would've helped the game but I think it might have been a bit too foreign for the public.
Giving this game a more prominent focus on action and having a friendlier name (yes it sounds silly but it's very easy to remember and also differentiates itself from other titles) will definitely win hearts in the marketplace if Sony is prepared to give it a serious marketing push.
I sincerely hope this title becomes a runaway success for the team, they certainly are positioning themselves in a better position than list time.
Oh it's been discussed, trust me. One of the main Ico's visual points is the striking contrast between the vastness of the architecture and the fragility of it's characters and their delicate relationship. One of the things that this team seems to be so great at (and I'm surprised nobody has really mentioned this before) is a keen sense of space and dimension.
THIS. IS. NICO.Doom_Bringer said:wtf no nico? damnit
Awesome!AssMan said:Q: Will there be a sequel?
UEDA:Yes but not at this point in time maybe 2-3 years down the road, but I'd like to create a game that shares the same kind of atmosphere and concept. I'm actually in the midst of preparing another game at the moment, but I cant really talk about it yet.
Better wait a few years down the road for a sequel.
Hmm, sequel to what? This game or Ico? Or again not really a sequel but a game with simillar visual style and atmosphere, which seems to be what he's saying.Better wait a few years down the road for a sequel.
can already imagine running up to one of them, leaping and grabbing onto a ledge on their ankle, climbing and climbing until I'm on their shoulder...only to lose my balance and fall aaaaaaalllllll the way down.![]()

- There will be different types of the collossuses (who are sealed within the old earth) including: man-like, flying and swimming types and they will be tens of times taller than the player.

- Because Ico was such a tranquil game, the developers felt they'd like to do something more aggressive with this one.
- There will be different types of the collossuses (who are sealed within the old earth) including: man-like, flying and swimming types and they will be tens of times taller than the player.
- When your character is climbing over a collosus searching for weak points, it will try and shake you off. Apparently this looks amazing and the monsters seem to move with their own free will.
- Team Ico have spent a lot of time on the player-character's reactions when climbing on the collossuses
- The Kyouzous' bodies should be thought of as a type of playing (?) field which are on the move day and night.

Release the pilot video already!(for those of us who haven't seen it)Kaido goes on to explain that the pilot movie was made using the Ico game engine, running in real time on the PS2, allowing the team to get an idea of what they could do on the PS2. As development progressed, the visuals changed, but the core areas of "fighting a giant enemy" and "giant field" didn't change what so ever.
The choice of pairing the player with a horse for Wanda to Kyozou was an intentional one, according to Ueda. "The horse is like Ico's Yorda," comments Ueda, referring to the girl character who accompanies the main character on his adventures in Ico. "In addition to being the main character's companion, he has a supporting role in battle." Faster creatures will require that you chase them down and attack on horseback. As an further example of the horse's role, Ueda states that the horse is a wise creature and will help players by following paths and avoiding obstacles. "In this way," says Uedo, "it's a good, semi-automatic ride. Players can focus all their power on the battle." Plus, according to Uedo, the image of the main character on a horse is just more impressive than that of the main character by himself.
