TEKKEN 7 |OT| How I killed your mother

How is there not more uproar about how shockingly bad Tekken 7 is online on PS4?

It's getting there; some people are having luck in lobbies, but I can't get any match online.

It's a damn shame the online is even in such a state on PS4, especially when considering that the PC release seemed to knock the ball out of the stratosphere in that department.

Fighting games will die, especially as esports, if they don't address this issue and show people how to play the game.

This is another big issue that I have; you have a game that is still pretty fun at all levels even when you're losing. GG is fun, but can seem like some really insane, insurmountable shit if you don't know what's going on. Good thing GG offers a tutorial which, while not perfect, introduces people to the basics on how the game can be played.

It just blows my mind from a newcomer perspective that this came with absolutely nothing. You could have hooked quite a few new players more than otherwise by just introducing a tutorial system worth a damn. And "just check online" is never, ever, EVER an excuse.

So apparently movement was universalized in this game.

And yet every character's movement(KBD in particular) feels totally different.Or is it just my imagination.

I Really don't know. It's so obnoxious. Like just give me a confirmation that they are aware of the issue and working on it. But so far nothing at all. It's like the problem doesn't even exist.

ANyone have a twitter? Can someone tweet Harada about this?

Yea, as a new player trying to learn a character (I picked Lars) is proving...very difficult, to say the least. I feel completely out of my depth.

Yeah, and you won't even know if you like playing for a long time, because you won't really understand his gameplan and general strategy for some time.

Games like Injustice and SFV aren't much better. They do have tutorials but the tutorial content in those games is pretty bad. Both Injustice and SFV teaches you all sorts of weird moves and combos, most of which aren't useful, and it doesn't contextualise them with where and when you should try to use them. While completely skipping over core fundamentals like anti-airs and pokes.

Top 15 moves for each character for those who haven't seen it.

Really useful.

Thanks good find.

Also here is a character overview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nbewxse8DlI

And if anyone goes to Tekken Zaibatsu and YouTube Level Up Your Game with RIP, tons of information.

Honestly even 10 year olds have tons of access to the internet. No company can match what the collective community provides for information.

It not hard finding turtorials and information in today's world.

GGs last night to everybody I played. T7 feels as great I hoped it would. Gameplay-wise this might be my favorite one in the series already.

now let me figure out a combo

Lyte Edge

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
I only succeeded in getting in one tournament on PS4. That mode sort of works- others had issues so it was disbanded after two matches.

But on PC, things are fine and I played online for a good while last night.

Harada is replying to people and mentioning that they will work on it while offering advice like the "wait for the pop up" trick.

SFV is much harder to a beginner than T7.

My friends tell me they eased the input windows and slowed the game speed down in general ,yet to me it seemed to me neckbreakingly difficult.

2D games are much more difficult and obtuse. I am genuinely surprised they tend to be more popular.

I found KoFXIII to be borderline unplayable hard on the other hand ,and I spend hours in practice mode trying to make sense of it.

Holy shit, Max and the guys are still at it? They'd been on for like 4 hours when I went to bed lol. Hard mode must be hard as fuck.

maybe tomorrow it rains
The hype got to me and I bought this, despite never really getting into Tekken previously. Probably going to be on those guys and just go with Akuma from the start. Having no other characters I am remotely familiar with, I think that will be the easiest way for me to learn how to play.

Edit: I bought it before reading about all the issues online. I've had good luck in the past, so I hope I'm able to play with my usual group.

The online is staggeringly bad. What the heck ... it looks like a lot of neat options, but nothing works right. Can't do a single quick match, if I try to view other fights in a tournament it locks up or just stops allowing anything to happen so you're stuck in the tournament until everyone else finishes. Sync issues. Just, ugh ... how is it so bad?

Most of it information that uses short hand which people need to look up. Then look up another guide to show how to do that, let's say IWS.

None of the information is complete or centralised. Most of it is years old from tekken 6 or tag 2.

It's not impossible and I'm really enjoying learning tekken 7. Having a great time and putting the work in.

But that's no excuse for not having proper tutorials and challenges in game. Especially when plenty of games have come out recently and showed how it should be done. I.e. Guilty gear. Hell of a complex game but has tutorials a basic newcomer can understand and vets can learn from.

Played for about an hour so far. Absolutely love it. Also surprised by how good my muscle memory is--haven't played in best part of a decade but my Nina, Jin, and Lili all seem alright.

Cannot get a single online match though. Got matched with a couple of opponents but connection was lost before I left the practice thing. Come on, Namcooooo.

Story mode half felt like a tutorial till the latter stages, which was weird. Content itself was mmm, could be better I guess...

I don't mind the little character side stories being 1 match though, since they'd seem like the final match of a 'normal' 8 match arcade run.

Yup, PC version seems fine on my end too. Been playing non-stop rank and non-ranked matches.

To quote Harada:
After entering the match list, wait for a while without selecting from the list. Plz accept if pop up comes out in that state.
Looking at the twitter replies, it doesn't work for everyone, but helped some people.

Watching Max go through Difficulty 10 on Story Mode is...insane. I have never seen a game this hard and cheap

In last nights stream MarkMan on first try finished the most difficult (10) fight in story. There is a pattern, its all about knowing it.

Yea I don't think your wrong in the sense it would be nice to have a tutorial in game. I agree with you it would be nice.

Reguardless, there is a centralized community location, Tekken Zaibatsu, Youtube Level Up Your Game, and to help you just so you know 90% of what works in Tekken 6 will still be applicable in T7.

Good luck! :)

For sure. But new player is looking through a move list as see's combo. 'while standing'. "What? I am standing, why doesn't this work?"

Looks up the instant while standing (should definitely be rising) tutorial and see's people talking about crushes. 'ok what's a crush?'

Looks it up and understands. 'Ok what moves have this property?' 'Just gotta know 'em bro'.

See where this could all be solved in game?

But yeah, been getting a lot of mileage off Tekken 6 and TT2 videos and posts. Especially as I'm learning Drag and he doesn't seem to have changed much.

Man this storymode is bullshit. Why does it have to "break" the game's own rules with giving enemies armor or infinite supers and teleport you right next to them so it always hits...

Ugh, not happy to hear that. That's some shit straight from the bible of NRS boss design and even they cut back on that armor bullshit in IJ2

Online seems worse now on PS4.
Now it doesn't even find matches to display in Match list for ranked.
And I hardly believe there are only 2 available lobbies for player matches right now (settings are "Any", and of course I was unabkle to join said sessions). When I created one, I waited for 10 minutes without anyone joining....

I sincerely hope that means they are working on it RIGHT NOW.

That's pretty bad, because the product itself is fine as always. What were they doing since early 2017??? Harada pls!

People are still going through the single player contents, hopefully they will get their shit together soon otherwise i would regret passing over Injustice 2 to get this game instead.

I'm a lapsed Tekken fan.

This game is going to bring me back in the fold. Holy shit. Netcode so delicious. PC port so tasty.

SC6 PLEASE OMG

Dude right? I double dipped and picked up the PC version as an afterthought just to give Namco some more love, but I've been on that more than I have on the PS4. It's just crazy good. For those who have the ability to, I would highly recommend getting this for PC over the PS4.

If I knew the PC version would have functional online and the PS4 wouldn't I would have gotten the pc version in a heartbeat but alas

Is there a particular character that's recommended for beginners to use to learn the basics of Tekken? Or should I just dive into whoever looks interesting?
