TEKKEN 7 |OT| How I killed your mother

Are all rage moves blockables? I played a few matches online yesterday and since I am coming from Tekken 3 and TTT I am so not used to this mechanic and didn't know when to use or expect it from the opponent so I lost a ton of matches because of this feature and while I was able to block a few attempts of this rage move I couldn't block any from Josie is her rage move unblockable or do I have to block low or I just didn't block at all?

They can all be blocked but some hit low like lucky Chloe's
RAGE ARTS at least. Some rage drives are unblockable like gigas' high rage drive.

Alright guys help me out on if I would like Tekken. These are the fighting games I like and hate and why.

Like:

DOA4 - Counter system, good pace, solid combo lengths.

MVC3 - Hyper speed combat, distinct characters, great control of your style.

For Honor - Extremely tense, great character playstyles, fantastic animation.

Hate:

SFV - Small movesets, boring rushdowm options, too slow-paced.

MKX - Terrible PC port, terrible animations.

Injustice - Terrible animation, keepaway spam, poor rushdown design, too slow paced.

Do you guys think I would dig Tekken 7?

Yep, the game rules.

Is Yoshimitsu still a well-meaning robin hood crazypants? I would likely exclusively play him as he is the only person I played during my brief time with the series in the past and I have a pretty strong connection to Maining the same characters across games.

I play him exclusively (for now and in the past). He's still awesome, maybe even better than in some of the recent ones.

Are other people on PC getting frequent mid-match disconnects? Not seeing a lot of complaining about it here or on the steam forums so am concerned it's something to do with my connection. I'd say 20% or more of my matches disconnect.

The story mode is a little lukewarm (I'd drop the narrator device and actually try and include more characters) and the arcade mode/character chapters needed merged together with stronger endings...

BUT

It's an absolute blast to play. This really has the fun factor that MKX lacked for me.

I hope they continue adding to customisation. It's a little barebones.

I have only had 1 mid match disconnect in a ton of matches on PC, I was okay with it because I was getting destroyed. But no it hasn't been common at all for me.

Any other Tekken noobs on PC want to add me for some fights? I'm not completely terrible and have gotten decent with 2 characters, but I need more practice to see what really works against people and not just in practice mode lol. I'm not a rager or anything if you kick my ass, so add me on steam: redsox44.

Wow, having some decent Street Fighter Skills, learning Akuma in Tekken 7 is incredibly fun!
Already doing some crazy combos after 20 minutes of training mode.

I hate it when people just pick different characters each time in a lobby. I don't learn anything and all you get to do is beat someone who isn't going to adapt in time.

I'm having trouble with Steve Fox's stance switching. I know some of the combos have hold forward or backwards after execution to switch stance but I'm still not that great at it. Any tips?

Don't play Steve.

Either that or practice a lot. He's really tough. There's no secret to it. Know what transitions, and get the execution down.

Yesterday on PC I didn't get any mid-match disconnects on PC. It was just while matchmaking where it'd pop up with someone, I'd accept and then instantly it would say connection lost.

Yeah. Her unblockable tends to create long ass dramatic slow-mos. Its pretty cool.

Yikes. As soon as they referenced GameFAQs of all things, I had to click that x button. But for sure, it doesn't make sense that OG chars aren't in. Esp Julia and Lei.
I thought Jin can parry it?
Jin and Raven both.

Yeah. I've been maining him since Tekken 2 arcades (that's like, 1995). And have kept up with his changes. Lemme know if you have any questions.

Do you ever plan on playing in tournaments? If not, then yeah, I can see how that's frustrating. But tourneys can really throw you, especially during a set where they can change characters upon losing to try and counterpick you. (Just like any fighting game really).

Go to the movelist and set the desired combo to display on the main game screen.
Why haven't they made a proper mode yet? DOA, VF and SC have modes where you can go through the movelist and it'll confirm when you've gotten the move correct. That's my biggest issue learning this game right now, I can't tell if what I'm inputting or getting is correct. I'm finding out there's a lot of while rising stuff that I wouldn't have known about unless I read in an article online. Ugh... Come on Harada

Finally got into a player match on PS4 and won so I have got that trophy. Only trophy I have left is the one for a ranked match and can't find any sessions.

Got an invitation for a lounge. Joined it.

And my r1 and r2 buttons weren't mapped to anything when the match started. This fucking game.

They have to be set per game mode
Ie. story/online/offline
Speaking of which Rage shouldn't be a button press.
Way too easy with no effort.

The only shortcuts I keep set in Tekken are the damn diagonal button presses, mapped to L1 and R1. (Due to playing on a pad.) The loading screens remind you of your character's rage art and drive anyway.

How is online still fucked....

Looks like the day 1 patch on PS4 broke everything. I saw reports that early players, before the patch, weren't having a problem.

Got to wait for the week 1 patch to fix the day 1 patch. It's a P2P game, there are no servers for Namco to adjust on their end. Problem is the game itself.

I've played like 30 matches online and My button mappings were fine. Restarted the game and they got fucked.

Aren't they all either two button presses (usually both punches) or two button presses plus a single direction like down? It's already about as easy as it can be.

I set one of my buttons for two punches and I play Steve so it doubles as a Rage Art button.

Okay so uhm, how the hell do you learn how to play this game? Is there really nothing like combo trial mode?

Learn all the command moves first. Then you Google combos and write them down. Also watch basic combo videos.

Go into training and start doing each move over and over again. It was trial and error when I was a kid. I'd play Law and later on Eddy, button mashing until I learned from other players.

Ranked matches were down period yesterday

The previous Tekkens have it too, I can still remember the tick tock sound effect.

Err... that is definitely not how one should go about learning the game, or a fighter in general.

First get comfortable with basic movement, blocking, defense etc.

You definitely don't need to learn all the moves or do them over and over in training mode. Just pick 3-5 moves that you like and stick to them for a while.

Do very basic combos first, don't bother with anything complex. Actually you may want to forget about them altogether in the beginning. Just get comfortable pressing buttons with your character.

I'm sorry

The matchmaking has me totally bummed. Should had got XB1 version, lol.

No online games all weekend. Fucking A. They should get roasted like Capcom did.

You gotta adapt. It's on you.
It was character specific stuff like devil jin's air stuff then next match king's grapples and then so on. It wasn't general stuff like sweeps that you could combo off of.

I know that I have to learn how to deal with it all, I'd just like to do it one at a time.

Oh lol no, I didn't mean you. There was a local guy who kept abusing stuff with different characters and I couldn't figure it out cause next match he was using someone else.

You weren't abusing anything :D
I don't abuse stuff?
I need to upgrade my tactics.

It's garbage. Can't understand why companies put so much effort into making great games and then competely sour the experience by having one important aspect absolutely broken.

Any general tips on dealing with string heavy characters getting into your face and then constantly using long strings? Mashing out is incredibly hard if you're not familiar with every string they have (and even then, I only get a couple of jabs out as a punish) and just blocking means I get slowly chipped out with lows.

Playing Jack-7 and I'm doing decently well against other things (for someone who's never played Tekken at least) but I'm having a real though time against this.
